on a pc running vista home premium 64 bit, can i download/install Windows 7 32 bit? I am having trouble with vista recognizing my xp programs. My desire is to try Windows 7 and run the xp mode to access my programs. Is that possible?
View 1 Repliesmy computer, a Lenovo Idea pad P580 running on Windows 7, is 5 weeks old and yesterday I was using Microsoft Word to edit a document and Word suddenly crashed. So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine.And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust the other day I booted up my computer only to realize that i couldn't open any programs (firefox, skype, word, excel etc.) After double clicking icons it wouldnt pretend to load them by making the circling cursor but would stop. I also couldn't start them from the program directory either. I am curretnly using my laptop to write this as i can't get the internet on my computer either.I rebooted in safe mode and nothing changed., I couldnt access anything. I'm suspecting a virus, but am totally clueless of how to deal with it seeing as I cant run any anti virus programs or download anything to this computer.

I have looked around myself but I can't find any settings that would indicate why it is now doing this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5532 Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and I have been recently encountering problems. My computer loads up perfectly fine but when i click on an icon the load up circle starts and then it stops loading in 2 seconds. I patiently wait but it just doesnt start and my computer freezes afterwards so i have to turn my computer off the unsafe way. I cleaned up my disk, unchecked unneccesary startup items in msconfig, checked registries for errors, defragmented my disk, use an antivirus, use malware bites, troubleshooting, ms config and none of it seems to resolve my problem. The only way i can open up programs is if I use safe mode and safe mode with networking.

I tried to change the compatibility mode of the application, which starts by a PIF file by the way, tried to run it in windows mode. But It simply wont work. I dont want to run it in XP virtual mode.
One of our computers went down at work and we had to replace it with a Windows 7 computer. The other ones on the network still have 2000 and XP. Now we're having issues with the network... and they're hard to pinpoint because sometimes they come and go.The plan is replace all the computers in the office with x64 Windows 7 machines.Some of the Designers still use 16 and 32-bit programs that won't even install on the new x64 PC (Which has the Home Premium Version)If we get Win 7 x74 Professional on all the computers on the network will they have trouble running these old apps through XP compatibility mode?

But, upon buying my new Win 7-64 bit laptop, a number of these do not provide for right-click access. I have un-installed and re-installed, but no luck. I really wish I could use File Shredder.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 on my 64 bit HP machine as an upgrade vs clean install- computer came with Vista and I upgraded to Windows 7 prior to loading programs on it. Norton Internet Security, itunes, Adobe Lightroom, TomTom Home cannot access their servers for updates etc.
I can access internet via IE and get Windows updates via the internet. I tried disabling the Windows firewall, allowing prpgorams access to internet via firewall, tried adv setting in firewall. Nothing worked.
Any suggestions?
I have recently noticed the last couple of weeks that my computer is running slower than normal. In the last week. I noticed my anti-virus software from Norton is no longer working. When I tried to delete the file to re-download it the program would not delete from my computer. I tried to just update it from the internet the "Run; Save;Cancel menu appeared and when I clicked run nothing happened. I tried this function in safe mode with the same result.
Now my problem is affecting other programs like Microsoft and the shortcuts on my desktop. I have tried downloading the AVG anti virus I ran into the same problem. I am lost for options since it is not letting me run any programs on my computer. I can download programs just fine but thats it. I can use the internet just fine but I try to stay away from that since it leaves me open for more viruses. I need to know of other options that I can try.
Does Win 7 XP Mode support devices as well as programs. In other words, I have a printer and scanner that have XP or Vista drivers, but no Win 7 drivers. Will XP Mode allow me to use them on a machine running Win 7?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running a legacy program in XP Mode (Adobe Pagemaker 7.0). When I need to save a document, usually to a Windows 7 drive, it takes a very long time to do so - unless I move the mouse pointer within the window. I know this sounds strange but I've confirmed this behavior many times.
I'm guessing that moving the mouse generates an IRQ which temporarily gives the XP mode process higher priority. If it is a large file which takes longer to save, I can observe the save process speed way up when moving the mouse and slow way down when I stop.
Is there some setting somewhere to speed up the process without the mouse movement - my hand is getting tired.
my pc semi froze, wouldn't let me access control manager and browsers forze but other applications were working. So i decided to restart my pc and upon restarting it froze on the bootup screen (windows logo). I tryed accessing safe mode but got stuck on " windowssystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS ". Once it crashes on the boot up and I press the reset button my main drive is no longer detected by my bios but when i fully shut down the pc and start it up again it gets detected no problem. I have browsed around and I have seen a lot of people stating it was bitdefender, but as I cannot gain access to my safe mode to restore or delete it I have no idea if it really is that. I would like to hear your suggestions on the problem, I could take my ssd out and put it in an external drive and plug it into my laptop to try and delete bitdefender but as its mounted to the floor of an antec 902 and its pretty jam packed in there id need to removed my gfx cards hard drive trays, and power supply just to get to it and that is something I really dont have the time for.

I am using a DOS based program (booted from USB) that attempts to refresh/recover sectors - it seems to be working well so far, but will take a very long time to run as it is a 1TB drive.
The only suitable machine is the one that I use for work (Windows 7), and I can't afford to use this machine in DOS mode 24/7.
Is there any way that I can run a DOS program that requires direct HD access from Windows 7? I've tried the likes of DosBox, but no luck.
I'm trying to install this game onto my computer. (I've got Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) Every time I click to run the .exe I either get that Windows cannot find the specified path, or that I don't have permission to run the program. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just reformatted my computer and installed Windows 7 64bit. I can access the internet just fine on Google Chrome. I can download at the fastest speed my connection will allow. Some programs, 2 in particular, won't allow connections but others will. Examples are: Ventrilo, and PlayOnline will access the internet, but GSC and Final Fantasy XI will not allow connections. I've gone through the router and opened ports for them, disabled UAC and windows firewall. I do not have any other firewall or virus scanner installed yet as they interfered on previous systems setting up my commonly used programs. I've also tried running the programs as administrator to no avail.

The problem is: even though I am the administrator, I cannot even view what is in that folder, much less delete any files withinit.The vendor (GENIE9) is totally clueless as to how to do this.Apparently the operating system has put some severe restrictions on this folder even for users that are administrators.

I just want to know the best way to allow programs to be accessed and/or denied access by various user accounts.
Example: I currently have Photoshop Elements installed on my computer and the only way I could find to give access to the others users (household media center) was to copy a short cut and paste it on that users desktop. Then I had to install it on each individual user account. I had to do the same for Firefox and Napster. Is there a better way to do this??
I am currently having issues with Napster running correctly and I have a feeling it's because of the way that added this to each user's account.
I have installed Windows 7 on my Computer on a separate partition to Windows XP2 to have a dual boot set up. Now, I would like to allow Windows 7 access to the Programs I have operating with Windows XP. If possible without having to install them again for Windows 7. These programs are currently scattered over three partitions including the OS partition of Win XP
Majority of these appear to have system files in the Win XP OS.
Is there any simple way I can get these programs to function under Windows 7 without having to install them again for Windows 7?
No 32Bit programs can access the internet, only 64Bit ones. Internet Explorer 64Bit works and Internet Explorer 32Bit crashes.Firefox, MSN, and Ventrilo are all 32Bit and no longer work. Windows update still works as thats 64Bit. OMG please help i have had this problem for over a year?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Dell XPS Ultrabook 13 with i7 processor. It worked fine for about three weeks, then all of a sudden it refuses to connect to the internet. I am still connected to my wifi network, but the network and sharing centre shows the connection as dropped between the hub and the internet. Troubleshooter offers no answers. I know other Windows7 users have experienced this and so I have ALREADY done the following: Tried accessing the internet in safe mode with networking. This works, so it is not a hardware issue. I can definitely access this web in this way. Rebooting my wireless router etc. I know this is not the issue though, as other devices such as my iPhone can still access the web through it (and the XPS, in safe mode)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it
