View 2 RepliesOne of our computers went down at work and we had to replace it with a Windows 7 computer. The other ones on the network still have 2000 and XP. Now we're having issues with the network... and they're hard to pinpoint because sometimes they come and go.The plan is replace all the computers in the office with x64 Windows 7 machines. Some of the Designers still use 16 and 32-bit programs that won't even install on the new x64 PC (Which has the Home Premium Version)If we get Win 7 x74 Professional on all the computers on the network will they have trouble running these old apps through XP compatibility mode?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer runs like grease lightning in safe mode, and my internet speeds are marvellous also, but alas when not in safe mode I have on quite a few occasions lately had my Windows freeze, my Windows Live Mail also freeze. I will define freeze, everything just does not work, my browser Firefox/Google, none of my loaded programs.
I have to leave the computer for about 10 minutes, and then it is perfect all day!, so I am guessing a program is causing the dilemma, but which one? I have about 60 applications running and I haven't loaded a new one in about 6 months. Is there a program I can purchase/download that would seek out the rogue program if indeed it is a rogue program.
on a pc running vista home premium 64 bit, can i download/install Windows 7 32 bit? I am having trouble with vista recognizing my xp programs. My desire is to try Windows 7 and run the xp mode to access my programs. Is that possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a reinstall of windows the other day, and just recently I noticed that now whenever I let the computer go into sleep mode overnight, all my active programs have closed when it wakes from sleep mode. I have looked around myself but I can't find any settings that would indicate why it is now doing this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5532 Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and I have been recently encountering problems. My computer loads up perfectly fine but when i click on an icon the load up circle starts and then it stops loading in 2 seconds. I patiently wait but it just doesnt start and my computer freezes afterwards so i have to turn my computer off the unsafe way. I cleaned up my disk, unchecked unneccesary startup items in msconfig, checked registries for errors, defragmented my disk, use an antivirus, use malware bites, troubleshooting, ms config and none of it seems to resolve my problem. The only way i can open up programs is if I use safe mode and safe mode with networking.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am supposed to run an old DOS program on my Windows 7 OS. But when I try to run i get the message c:winndowssystem32cmd.exe This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
I tried to change the compatibility mode of the application, which starts by a PIF file by the way, tried to run it in windows mode. But It simply wont work. I dont want to run it in XP virtual mode.
I have recently noticed the last couple of weeks that my computer is running slower than normal. In the last week. I noticed my anti-virus software from Norton is no longer working. When I tried to delete the file to re-download it the program would not delete from my computer. I tried to just update it from the internet the "Run; Save;Cancel menu appeared and when I clicked run nothing happened. I tried this function in safe mode with the same result.
Now my problem is affecting other programs like Microsoft and the shortcuts on my desktop. I have tried downloading the AVG anti virus I ran into the same problem. I am lost for options since it is not letting me run any programs on my computer. I can download programs just fine but thats it. I can use the internet just fine but I try to stay away from that since it leaves me open for more viruses. I need to know of other options that I can try.
I am running a legacy program in XP Mode (Adobe Pagemaker 7.0). When I need to save a document, usually to a Windows 7 drive, it takes a very long time to do so - unless I move the mouse pointer within the window. I know this sounds strange but I've confirmed this behavior many times.
I'm guessing that moving the mouse generates an IRQ which temporarily gives the XP mode process higher priority. If it is a large file which takes longer to save, I can observe the save process speed way up when moving the mouse and slow way down when I stop.
Is there some setting somewhere to speed up the process without the mouse movement - my hand is getting tired.
I booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it
the computer I am concerned with is running Windows 7 with IE8, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I am currently in Safe Mode with Networking without issue. The owner of the computer says that something happened earlier today while he was online that sounds like some false antivirus popup, but he's unsure. Here are the symptoms in normal mode. Every application, from moving through them to opening and closing them, runs exceptionally slow - one to three minutes to open, at least a minute to open internet pages. I noticed that, when in IE, as the pages are loading the IE page disappears and reappears. I am not very familiar with Windows 7 so I don't know if it is related. The computer seems to be getting slower as the day goes on. CPU usage is very high.So far, I have disabled many startup items that were unnecessary. I ran CCleaner and cleaned up. MBAM was run in both normal and safe mode, full scans, and found nothing. This is also posted in Viruses and Malware, but I'm unsure where it should live.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy entire organization in currently running XP, however we are thinking about going to Windows 7 if i can get this to work.We are using Siebel 7 Production in order to manage our customers, and this only runs in IE6. This is fine since we are still using XP and actually this is the reason we are using XP.I have setup a test computer with Windows 7 and XP mode and have published the link for Siebel to Windows 7 so I can just launch it from the desktop. Great!!! The issue that i am having is that we are in the middle of developing a replacement for Siebel, and this requires us to move our data to Sharepoint 2010. Within Siebel we have always used a link that opens a webpage to customer purchase history that is hosted in Sharepoint. With moving to Sharepoint 2010 IE6 is no longer supported, we will need IE7 or above.y question is, when i click on that link located within the Siebel IE6 window, how can i get it to launch in the brower in windows 7, and not in IE6 XP mode? Is there a way we can change the link to force it to open in the actual windows 7 browser?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer, a Lenovo Idea pad P580 running on Windows 7, is 5 weeks old and yesterday I was using Microsoft Word to edit a document and Word suddenly crashed. So I closed it, but then the cursor started spinning and I could not access anything on my computer so I rebooted and it started up but then just trying to open Microsoft Word caused the cursor to keep spinning again and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted and this time it was spinning from the beginning. So I again rebooted and turned it on in safe mode and everything was fine. Then turned it off and left it off overnight. In the morning I tried to boot in normal mode and it did boot but it was again spinning and I could not access anything. So I again rebooted in safe mode and I can use my computer fine. And also, this is unrelated, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to make the scroll bar stop moving on its own? Every time I scroll down a page it seems to lock the scroll bar and so when I move the cursor away from the scroll bar, the scroll bar still moves and I cannot click any links or anything on that webpage.

No matter what I was doing, Media, Excell, Word, it would freeze up and hang. Sometimes CTL_ALT_DLT would unfreeze it, even before the task manager appeared, but it will take 3-4 minutes with an o[ague screen and the progress "circle" moving then unfreeze, sork 1-2 minutes, freeze, etc. Then all clicks on something to activate would result in loooong (long) delays, 15 to 45 seconds, then the new screen or window or peogram would open, sometimes frozen up.This did not happen in safe mode.I have (on suggestions) removed all things from my start up or programs that other's have suggested, Google Update files, and three or four others that others had issues with that I found on the net. I have also removed programs that I had installed around then.
I have also run, in Safe Mode, MSE, MS Safety Scanner, MS malicious file remover, ESET online Scanner, my laptop is clean.I have used mscong to disable all non-microsoft items to see if that helped. It did not. Same issues.I have used startup repair, and after scanning received a message that there was a problem, but that it could not fix it, did I want to send a report to Microsoft, I checked yes and it sent me to System Restore, ran it for about a week ago which was when I had downloaded some software, and the problem still existed, which sent me back to System Repair, ran it, same error message, reported again.I used a Repair Disk to get back on the laptop a coulple of times when needed, but ultimately, the problem surfaced still.I have used ReImage Plus to rebuild all my defective Windows Files and a lot of my 3rd party defective files. And, I also did a Win 7 repair install.I am pretty convinced something is being loaded somewhere, but can't find where or who or what.Am I on the right track? Have I missed something? Am I wrong? I do not really want to do a clean re-install of Windows 7, for if I do I am reformatting everything to clean any and everything.... sort of NUKE it... but would rather find the culprit (for education purposes). And, I dislike installing and updating and setting up everything again more than I hate "boiled okra!"Anyone and Everyone that has had to do with this or similar sounding issue, please reply. I have two weeks invested, and would like to "graduate" resolving this and getting the learning experience of WHY?
I have been getting BSOD errors whenever booting into regular mode. Safe mode is fine (I have tweaked the registry so I have sound in safe mode) My system specs are in my profile, but used Winaudit for full specs. The winaudit report in formatted text is too big for an attachment. I have 2 attachments to this post, including zipped up minidumps. Could my registry tweak for sound have something to do with this? Perfmon /report was run, but it says:
An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified.
My laptop hangs up/ freeze in normal mode. Now I can only open it on safe mode. I was only copy pasting some files couple days ago when it happened. I have to hold the power button to turn it off. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.
