I want to hide my Windows 7 computer from showing up (to other computers) in he network (Start menu -> Network).I've tried "net config server /hidden:yes"Aswell as disabling both Link-Layer Topology Mapper and Responder.I even changed it to it's own Workgroup. But it still shows up to other computers in my home network.
I have several VPNs and Virtualizing software installed, and they have this virtual network adapters in the network and sharing centre. In the "connect to a network menu", one shows working internet connection, while the other one shows no internet access, How do I get rid of those entries? I dont mind messing with the registry or the system files.
The hide/unhide arrows on my taskbar have disappeared and I can't figure out how to get them back. I went to properties and clicked on unhide inactive icons, but I still have the same 3 showing and none of my other ones.
I set the Taskbar tab (in Taskbar & Start menu Properties) to Auto-hide the Taskbar. When I select Apply, the taskbar dips and disappears for a second and then comes right back and stays there.
I've got a total of six computers on my network - 2 running Windows 7 and 4 running XP. With the exception of one computer, all of the machines see each other on the network and can share files. One XP machine does not see the shared folders of my new Win 7 machine but does list it as a "workgroup" computer. When I try to access the computer itself I am prompted for a password. Passwords are turned off on the Win 7 machine and none of the other computers on the network get prompted for passwords to access this computer. I assumed that it was due to the setting on the Win 7 machine but they are all set for sharing with everyone on the network. Passwords are off. Firewall is off as well. The network name is consistent across all the machines. I've been unable to find any information on why just one computer on the network would be prompted for a password to access another computer on the network.
I am contacting you about a problem I recently noticed. Today when I opened windows explorer, under the Network tab I noticed a new unknown computer called VALI-PC. I do not have wireless internet, I have broadband connection. I do not know this computer and I did not add it. At first I thought some sort of virus did it. I have reinstalled Windows, thinking that it would solve the problem, yet the unknown computer is still there. I have tried flushing the dns from the command prompt and other similar tricks, rebooted my computer but it's still there. I would like to know how to block and remove this computer from the Network folder. Note that I am not part of any workgroup and I do not own a workgroup. Also I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
-Computer 1 sees Computer 2 and 3 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.
-Computer 3 sees Computer 1 and 2 just fine. Can browse the folders they have shared, etc.
-Computer 2 sees Computer 1 just fine. Computer seems to be somewhat aware of Computer 3 (it sees it as a media device for viewing pictures/video/whatever) but it does not see it under the Computer list in Network. In other words, it can't navigate to it and browse its folders.
I've messed with everything on Computer 3 I could possibly think of. There was never at any point an option to select who had access to what, specifically. I simply told it to give full permissions to "EVERYONE" which I would assume is everyone on the network.Firewall is off on all three computers.
-Sharing and discovery is on on all three computers. -File and Printer sharing is on on all three computers. -Public folder sharing is on on all three computers.
It can't be a "64-bit and 32-bit can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.It can't be a "wireless and wired can't talk" issue since Computer 1 sees and is seen by Computer 3 just fine.
I installed windows 7 RC a few days ago, and every 2-10 seconds it would spike with lag, the mouse would jump and the internet would do the same i would get a consistent low rate and every now and then it would jump to normal.
I found out the problem was with my network card, i had to roll back the driver on my network card for it to work properly.
Now my network card updates itself every now and then and i have to go back and change it again.
I was wondering if anybody else has had similar problems like this, and or found a permanent fix for this.
So on my network at home there are a few others connected to it and i wanted to know how i would go about making it so they cannot access my shared docs or computer at all over the network without a password but i dont know how to go about doing this. Can anyone help me do this?
I have a network setup with in our home, and am able to connect to it through windows 7 but after a bit of time all the other computers dissappear off of the network. Also I am having difficutly sharing my folders on the network. The other computers in my home operate on Vista or lower so I am not sure of the issue.
I have lowered the encryption and allowed windows to activly look for networks which it does well but it will only do this for a short period of time. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Like I said the network will apper and I do have access to it on occassion but then disappers and will not return.
I see strange device among my list of devices and printer with the name Hitachi HTS543216L9A30. never seen it before I upgraded to windows 7. Do you think the great Windows 7 might just have uncovered something strange that has been eluded me all this while?
I just purchased a new computer with Win 7. All my other computers have XP or Vista and I can share files but the Win7 computer cannot open files on the Vista but can open files on the Xp computer. None of the other computer can open files on the Win 7. All are on the same workgroup and can see the Win 7 but not open. I have enabled all file sharing that I can find.
i run win 7 ultimate 64 and in Network ID, when i change the initial setting (this computer is part of a business network) to: this is a home computer, and prompts me to restart, the system reverts to the first setting (business network). I ve done this procedure many times, even in safe mode but the problem persists.
I need to monitor a computer when i am traveling, the computer will not be on my network and i would like to monitor and track the websites visited while i am away
computer #1: windows 7 hpcomputer #2: windows xp proI managed to lan cable connect and share folders/files between 2 windows 7computers. And the same between 2 windows xp computers. Then I wanted to lan cable connect and share folders/files between a windows 7 hp and a windows xp pro computerI tried for hours, running the same settings in circle. At a point it worked. But I don't know why it suddenly worked. The difficult thing was, to make the network icon appear on "the other computer".Do you have a detailed step by step manual, on how to config settings in

I have been having this issue on and off for a while now. We have 2 windows 7 computers. Network discovery is on and password protection is off. The folders necessary are shared, but when I try to connect to the computer on the network it asks me for a unsername and password. however, if the other computer tries to connect to mine, they get in no problem. We've tried a homegroup and I can't see any of the files in the folders.. I have read and read on the forums and tried everything I could..
How can I rename the network as my computer remembers it? The name is "Pentagon" which wast the name of the first router, and when we got the 2nd one we decided to name it Pentagon again, and my computer named it as "Pentagon 2" in the network and sharing center, but when I went to wireless networks, it was named Pentagon. Now the new router we just got is named "Pentagon 3". How can I make it say Pentagon again?
I was on a flight with EasyJet today, and, the cabin manager confirmed that WiFi was available on the aircraft, and, as a matter of fact Windows 7 was indicating that new connections were available, however, I had a blonde moment. I could not browse anywhere to discover the name of the network and try to connect. I think that this is a design flaw, as WinXP allows users to discover new SSIDs, or else the SSID is configured in some way that it cannot be found is it possible?
I have two computers and I use them both a lot. They are both for work. I have Input Defender to allow me to use my mouse on both screens. Unfortunately, quite often my laptop seems to boot up and isn't connected to the network at all. I have to restart it and / or just wait till it decides to connect. Sometimes hours.
How can I figure out why it's not connecting to the the network and / or Internet.
I have two computers on my home network, one running Windows 7 Pro (connected to an HP 1020 printer) and one running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I can print just fine from the Pro computer (directly connected to the printer) but when I try to print from the Home Premium one, it goes into the Print Queue but just sits there. I have to restart the Print Spooler service and then it prints right away.
The printer is installed as a network printer on the Home Premium computer and I tried re-installing the latest driver from HP (the same one I used to install the printer on the Pro computer). The problem must lie in the Pro computer because the job comes in and sits in the queue, but the print spooler service, for some reason, just won't respond.
"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x00025B66A83D. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address"
I do not understand it, i have set my network to static IP, not receive from DHCP server from my router. I have confirmed that by "ipconfig /all"
I have "ping localhost" with no 4 replies and have "ping 192.168.0.11" which is my computer. I did not received all 4 replies either.
I have ping to my router (DHCP Server) and it works OK.
Is it possible something wrong with my Ethernet hardware or just Ethernet driver problem?
Possible cause: TCP/IP Stack or my Ethernet is corrupt. What I can do about it?
What is the password of computer i want to access throw network ?
at XP i used to change the password by typing control userpasswords2 at run then modify the guest account password so every one can access the PC throw network by this account but i don't know how to do that at vista and 7.
only i can remove the password totally but can't change it and also i don't know the windows default password.
I have Windows 7 to the point now where I can access computers on our network but they cannot access the Windows 7 computer. Our XP PC sporadically can see our Windows 7 computer but that's all, it doesn't see the network printer connected to it. I've named and renamed the printer, added XP drivers to Windows 7 and I'm completely baffled at this point. (I have the firewall off on the Windows 7 PC). So far I'm not thrilled with Windows 7 and hope they don't attempt to release it anytime in the near future, my computers and network has always setup easily and ran flawless with XP and Vista but with Windows 7 it's been a battle all the way.
I use Windows 7 Pro on our company LAN. I had to connect temporarily to another computer on the LAN to access some file shares there. Now I would like to disconnect. I haven't found any way to do this.
We are doing system testing on a few PC's at our company with upgrading from XP to Windows 7. While using Windows 7 and the Computer Management utility, I noticed that when you connect to another computer, and right click on the PC name, you cannot view/edit the properties like you can in XP. My question is concerning this. Is there a way to view/edit the properties of another computer using Computer Management on Windows 7?
