CPU Running At 100 Percent Constantly - Killed Processes But No Difference

I have two computers, one computer runs smoothly at a cpu level of around 10%, and has less RAM, hard drive space, and runs more cpu related tasks, it has a duel core 2.4, my other computer, however, runs at 100% all the time, no matter how many processes I kill in tskmgr.exe, it runs incredibly slow, it has a duel core 2.2. I've ran malwarebytes, CCleaner, registry cleaner, defrag, and it still runs at 100%, it didn't used to do this, it's happened for at least two months, but it keeps getting worse.

What I need to do to get my CPU running healthily. The highest process (CPU) Is Hamachi with 20%.

But all of a sudden my computer just start using 100% cpu constantly. like it never goes down to an idle percentage. It is really getting annoying with the fan super fast and loud.

I'm having problems with windows media player on windows 7. I've now had 4 fresh installs of 7 since its release (4 too many?) and every time i get the same wmp problem its either wmplayer.exe or the sharing service using 25%. I've disabled the media sharing service and disabled it in services window so it no longer runs, I only have one directory in wmp which is D:music on a separate drive from the OS no image or video libraries. Windows search indexer is also gone due to the total i/o causing a real slow system
All the download media info and other settings are disabled too, windows media player should just literally play my music and no more however this does not seem the case, it is also seems to be permanently trying to update my media library which it has done on all 4 installs too. Iremember having this problem too on XP MCE ? I am not sure if I have left any info out but basically I have tried everything I can so far and WMP will always uses 25% of my cpu even after its closed I usually have to kill the process manually.

when i open my task manager i have 79 processes running and im not sure if thats to many or normal? I also dont know how to tel which ones are ok to stop or not? any help?

Recently when ever I'm playing games or running programs, they suddenly spike up to 100% cpu usage and start lagging very badly.They normally run fine and quite smoothly but then after a while, they suddenly stop working. It usually stops if i leave them alone for some time or if i close the program, but i don't think the application itself has anything to do with it.This happens on many different games and applications alike, but normally only with games, even old ones.I checked my processes and it says i have 61-65 processes running! Isn't this too high? how can i check if those processes are OK? I have HijackThis and can post a log file if needed.

On a fresh boot, after my desktop loads but before I launch any browsing/email/internet applications, I notice I have two or three instances of iexplore.exe running in the list of active processes. Does this seem "normal" for Windows 7, or should I be concerned that iexplore.exe is running even when I have not launched IE?
(Windows 7 x64). Browser is IE8, but Firefox & Chrome are also installed.

I have an Alienware M14x and just did a clean install of Windows 7...I know how to of course get to the startup and running processes, but not sure what the best way to go about deleting or stopping them is.

My XFX HD6950 1GB is running at 95%-99% when not performing any tasks. Here are some solutions i tried which did not work:
- I restarted my pc but that did not solve the problem.
- I tried to reinstall my driver but that also did not fix the problem.
The driver I am running for my GPU is the latest catalyst control centre. The problem started a few hours ago but my pc did not crash (yet).

I am having a very weird problem that started suddenly Im using windows 7 since beta stages and it was perfect untill now
Each time i enter a folder the green bar on the adress bar starts to run slowly like something is being indexed or read... the files all become (in use) so i cannot delete or edit them and of course all going slow , that is untill the process ends what is the proble and how i can fix that ?

I just got my computer back from my friend that was fixing my bad memory problem after geeksquad tried to bull**** me and I noticed I had alot of processes running and a bad ram usage. I just clean installed windows a week ago and only added like 3 programs (steam, G1 Live, and other needed stuff.)
When Im downloading a game my internet is slow as sh** and when Im browsing the web my 1000kbps comcast download speed on the game (which is already bad) drops down to 30kbps. Im guessing this is a ram/registry problem. Ive never cleaned the registry.

Sometime I do somewhat intensive processing that causes 85% of my 6GB ram to be used. But when 85% is being used, my machine completely slows down for all other tasks including very basic tasks like opening Windows Explorer. Surely the remaining 15% should be more than enough to open Windows Explorer without any latency. I'm using 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Also, I should state that the CPU usage is very low at these times.

what is the typical number of processes that should be running in task manager on a typical standard version of Win 7 Home Premium, without any added programs? (Without IE being used)My Dad has a couple of year old HP Pavilion p6680t and it has about 62- 65 processes running before any browser is used. He also has Adobe Flash, Win Live Essentials, and MSE, along with a HP printer.

I have Windows 7, Premium Home Edition. When I typed Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I used to get the Task Manager. Tabs allowed me to select some options, one of which was "processes". Maybe I clicked something that changed things, but now I only get a list of running programs (NOT processes). And I don't have any tabs to select other options,How can I get the running processes list back?

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop. I was running Vista and about 2 weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Windows 7. After the upgrade, things worked beautifully, but a few days ago my hard drive began running constantly and still is. Whether I leave it alone or am working on it does not seem to matter, yet system performance seems unaffected by it.
I am a novice computer user so straight forward instructions or explanations are more than welcome.

My girlfriend's Dell Mini 9 netbook decided to start acting up recently. She turned it on, and it decided to run startup repair. The repair always fails for no apparent reason, and the computer shuts itself down. I tried running a startup repair from a Windows 7 repair disc. The repair from the disc claimed that it fixed issues, and yet when I started the computer up again it ran startup repair again. Its stuck in a cycle I cannot get past. I tried running system restore from the repair disc, but it always fails as soon as its finalized. asically, what the heck is wrong? I unfortunately have little software experience, the majority of what I know is hardware related.
I just ran startup repair from the disc again and read the error details. It says that the root cause is "startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem." It still says the errors were fixed. But after yet another boot-up, the repair still automatically runs and fails.etails of the failure:Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.[CODE]

Fo the last few days, Internet explorer stops working all of the time. When this happens, no desktop icons work. Sometimes, I can use task manager to shut down instances of iexplore.exe*32 and it works again for a while. Sometimes, I am not allowed to close the instances with task manager as it says operationdenied.Malwarebytes returns 0 issues. I tried MS safety scanner and that also found nothing.I assume there is a virus or trojan at work here but I really don't know what else to do

Yesterday I installed RC1 of Windows 7 on my HP 6910p. After install I immediately noticed that the notebook makes much more fan noise then under Windows XP.
The fan seems to be running constantly and whenever I seem to do something a bit graphical it goes at full speed.
Are there any other (HP 6910p) users that have the same experience?
Is there something I can do / tweak to make my notebook quite again.
I have already disabled the superfetch however this only reduces the HDD activity.

Per microsoft I need to do try a repair install from original disk. Is there a difference between running repair install from Windows or booting from original disk then selecting upgrade install? Is one or the other preferred? Directions say both attempt to preserve installed programs, but not all drivers, and both require reinstalling all the 60 or so windows updates released after my disk. so no differences there.

Everything was fine. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my C: partition a couple days ago, while keeping important data (family photos, videos, etc.) on my D: partition, and everyting went off without a hitch. For the last couple of days I've had no problems. Then this afternoon, I shut down the computer and start it up again an hour later and the D: partition has totally disappeared to be replaced with "free space." The partition had been totally obliterated without warning or explanation - it's just gone. I made the mistake of going into the Disk Manager and reassigning the letter to the partition in the hopes that would fix the problem but now Windows wants to reformat the drive (which I have not allowed since I want to recover the data some how). I've been using and upgrading Windows since the Windows 95 days and I have NEVER, EVER seen this happen. I tried using Partition Wizard as it advertised a partition recovery tool but have not had success with it and I'm now thinking I'm going to have to drop a some money into a more robust data recovery option.

Bought a new Asus A53E i5 3 weeks ago; sometimes it either wouldn't shut down w/o a hard stop or would turn off just because it felt like it - displaying a major error message. And was slow as hell apparently from major bloatware according to Amazon (where I got it). Also, the loaded antivirus "Trend Micro Titanium" was defunct - so I added MS Essentials. Shouldn't have let Bozo coworker touch it, should have just returned it, but he did a system restore, started deleting programs he'd never heard of (to speed it up) and now I have no error log to document my previous issues and no MS Office. Since it came loaded, the key is on the bottom - but can't even get to the point to add it w/o an error message. Is it totally fubared? Did I make the most expensive mistake of the year - because now my warranty is toast - or can I still send it back? I can always add a different version of Office and it hasn't really done the funky shut down crap lately.

I built this machine using a caviar green HD and loaded Windows 7 64. It seemed pretty slow, so soon after I added a 128GB SSD and loaded Win 7 64. On start up I got the dual boot option and would just select the SSD as the main OS drive.I got tired of the dual boot option and foolishly formatted the OS partition on the Caviar.I has assumed with on OS on the caviar it would default to the SSD. Dumb me.I can rectify this with out reloading Win on the SSD. I finally got all my applications set up right.

My ASUS Notebook was running fine when I went to bed the other night and Windows 7 did an auto update. I logged on the next morning and all the USB, Network Adapter, and Sound drivers were dead. I checked, and it appears that a few of the components of the Windows update did not complete successfully (.Net framework, Silverlight, etc.), so I assume this has something to do with it. I assumed it would be no big deal to fix the drivers, but boy was I wrong. Here's what I've tried (and failed) to fix this.

I just tried the tool mentioned above to resize my partitions. I'm running W7x64 on a SATA drive and XP on IDE, so I can startup both depending on which disk I set as boot disk in my BIOS. So far things were running fine but ever since I tried to resize my Windows 7 partition to have more room for my storage partition (same physical drive), my Windows 7 keeps rebooting. I see the normal boot screen and after a while, the PC restarts. I tried the repair console to no avail - the assistant claims it couldn't restore anything, it doesn't even show me any restore points (which I know do exist). The actual Windows 7 partition seems OK though as I can access most folders when I boot in XP.

alright, I'm posting on behalf of a friend(doing chat on facebook..), who is trying to replace the harddrive on a windows 7 laptop.now.. installation of the new drive did not go to plan, so he tried to put the old one in, and the computer apparently took this as cause to commit seppeku if you will.we have tried everything, up to and including testing for a bad mobo, which I suspect it is.all he's getting is a power light, not even the screen's backlight is coming up.

My boot drive is a 120Gb Samsung spinpoint, previously one whole partition containing XP. This XP wasnt a clean install, it was an upgrade to Windows 98 I think, and this may be the problem. I have a number of other hard disks, 1 PATA and 2 SATA, which I am using for video editing stuff.
I downloaded GParted, shrunk the XP partition to 76Gb and created a new 35Gb partition for Windows 7. A bit small, but I figured once everything was tested out, I could grow out the Windows 7 partition.
This was successful, and I inserted the Windows 7 disk...selected custom install, and installed to my newly created partition.
Windows 7 did its reboots and I filled in the usual bunff to create basic accounts, etc.
Then I rebooted, and was a bit surprised I did not get the dual-boot menu, it went straight into Windows 7. Using F5 and F8 did not provide any further options, specifically the 'Previous version of Windows' one.
Going into Windows 7 Disk manager, i could see the partition was still there. I read other posts of what Windows 7 does (belately) and yes, it had 'hidden' the XP partition. I gave it a drive letter (D, but Windows 7 saw it as an empty disk!
I downloaded EasyBCD, and it showed only one entry in the bootloader. I tried to add a new entry, using type:"Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3", but the Drive was greyed out; if I selected "Vista/Longhorn" I could then change the drive to D: and then change type back to XP (odd). I then clicked 'Add Entry', but it came back with an error message "EasyBCD could not locate a copy of NTLDR on your hard drive. Please download a copy of NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from Htpp://(blah blah) and copy them to the drive D: in order for your newly-created entry to work.".
Does this mean my XP partition is truly trashed? Is there a way to get back my XP partition?
I am thinking of maybe inserting the XP disk and repairing, maybe it will detect XP and fix it, but if it will blow away both my installations, I might not bother.
Last resort is to use File Scavenger on the dead partition, but when I checked it out in GParted again just now, it said that 3Gb out of the 76Gb had data, could it be that Windows 7 has just not recognised my original XP partition as an XP partition, thought it was its configuration partition, and just overwrote stuff?
