I just got my computer back from my friend that was fixing my bad memory problem after geeksquad tried to bull**** me and I noticed I had alot of processes running and a bad ram usage. I just clean installed windows a week ago and only added like 3 programs (steam, G1 Live, and other needed stuff.)
When Im downloading a game my internet is slow as sh** and when Im browsing the web my 1000kbps comcast download speed on the game (which is already bad) drops down to 30kbps. Im guessing this is a ram/registry problem. Ive never cleaned the registry.

what is the typical number of processes that should be running in task manager on a typical standard version of Win 7 Home Premium, without any added programs? (Without IE being used)My Dad has a couple of year old HP Pavilion p6680t and it has about 62- 65 processes running before any browser is used. He also has Adobe Flash, Win Live Essentials, and MSE, along with a HP printer.

We are having ongoing problems with Windows 7 and mapped drive latency on our network. Our environment is as follows:Multiple servers running Windows 2008 & 2008 R2, some VMware servers (including our file server). Windows 7 x64 came preloaded on a brand new Lenovo think-pad, 4gb memory. This occurs on 4 different laptops. This problem ALSO occurs in exactly the same way on an HP Compaq x64 desktop running Windows 7 32. All systems are fully patched & up to date on SP's. Running IP 4 & 6 on all servers & Windows 7 machines Connected to GB Cisco switch. We run login scripts via GPOs that map drives (with net use commands) to 3 shares on our file-server, drives G, H and S.A fourth mapped drive to an IBM I-series does NOT experience these issues.
In Windows Explorer, mapped drives may or may not appear with red X's, but when clicked on they hang with a spinner and the green bar at the top of Explorer begins to run. This occurs randomly, but usually not right after boot up. It can take over a minute to complete. Also, in Word, which has references to these drives in file locations, file opening and saves can be very slow as it attempts to access these shares. This issue has delayed our roll out of Windows 7.Its unacceptably slow and cannot be used in a production environment. We have tried every suggestion we can find on the Internet:Turned off auto-tuning, indexing, thumbnails, set auto-disconnect to the max (both 99999 and ffffffff). Server & clients. No luck. Changed properties on the mapped drives to optimize for documents...no change.Changes setting on the network cards to disable flow control, set static link speed & duplex. Network drivers have been updated. Even tried using our wireless network and disabling wired connection...no change. All bios and hardware updates are completed...no change.Turned on and off network discovery..no change.
Disabled SMB2 on servers & clients...no change.Disabled firewalls, and unloaded antivirus (Trend)...no change.Safe boot with networking & clean boot with no services other than Microsoft...no change.

Recently when ever I'm playing games or running programs, they suddenly spike up to 100% cpu usage and start lagging very badly. They normally run fine and quite smoothly but then after a while, they suddenly stop working. It usually stops if i leave them alone for some time or if i close the program, but i don't think the application itself has anything to do with it.This happens on many different games and applications alike, but normally only with games, even old ones.I checked my processes and it says i have 61-65 processes running! Isn't this too high? how can i check if those processes are OK? I have HijackThis and can post a log file if needed.

On a fresh boot, after my desktop loads but before I launch any browsing/email/internet applications, I notice I have two or three instances of iexplore.exe running in the list of active processes. Does this seem "normal" for Windows 7, or should I be concerned that iexplore.exe is running even when I have not launched IE?
(Windows 7 x64). Browser is IE8, but Firefox & Chrome are also installed.

I have two computers, one computer runs smoothly at a cpu level of around 10%, and has less RAM, hard drive space, and runs more cpu related tasks, it has a duel core 2.4, my other computer, however, runs at 100% all the time, no matter how many processes I kill in tskmgr.exe, it runs incredibly slow, it has a duel core 2.2. I've ran malwarebytes, CCleaner, registry cleaner, defrag, and it still runs at 100%, it didn't used to do this, it's happened for at least two months, but it keeps getting worse.

I have Windows 7, Premium Home Edition. When I typed Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I used to get the Task Manager. Tabs allowed me to select some options, one of which was "processes". Maybe I clicked something that changed things, but now I only get a list of running programs (NOT processes). And I don't have any tabs to select other options,How can I get the running processes list back?

Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.

When I access my Music files (2600 files, 185 folders, 20GBs) on my Samsung (D) drive I get this slow green line in the address bar going from left to right, takes like 15 seconds to go across, I'm assuming it's indexing(?) the music folder and can't really do anything until that green line finishes going across, is there something I can turn on or off to speed up the "green line" so I do not have to wait the 15 seconds? Would a SATA 6.0 drive help speed up the "green line"?

I don't know whats happened to it. I update and use Malwarebytes on a daily basis with never an infection, and use AVG antivirus with no instances of virus.I'm hoping someone can get me on the right track here. I was having issues a year ago and you guys nailed the problem, so I'm back hoping for more of the same

I just got a new Dell Inspiron ONE 2320 with Windows 7 and it is unbelievably slow! I has XP on my old computer and never had these issues. Google Chrome takes forever, IE9 is much worse and just getting into My Documents takes a long time as well. I checked for performance issues in the control panel and it came back saying that my computer is set up to run programs at Startup that may cause delays. The problem is that I don't know which programs can be disabled at startup.I also checked the memory and it says its at 2.86 GB. That seems high for a new computer, doesn't it? The physical memory also says it has about 2900 mb in use. I just don't understand that.I'll do my best to describe the computer. The computer is a Dell Inspiron ONE 2320 and the Processor is an Intel Core i3-2100 CPU @3.10GHz 3.10GHz. RAM is 4.00 GB. It's a 64 bit operating system.
Here are the programs I have running on the startup tab on the system configuration:
Webcam Central
stage_primary
Roxio Burn
Realtek HD Audio Manager
PowerReg
notes_startup_widget
[code]...

Awhile back I was running Windows XP and it started acting really slow. I got that double my speed program and it only made things worse. programs would not run and I could barely get my computer to turn on. I could not find my disks to re-install XP so I bought Windows 7. I installed the 32 bit version and everything loaded fine. I left the computer on for a couple hours just to find that it had started running really slow. Audio and video both. It will take about 15 minutes for the computer to shut down but I can turn it back on and it runs fine for 30 minutes maybe an hour. I was told I did not have enough RAM Memoryso added another 4GIG. I have 6GIG now which should be more then plenty yet nothing has changed.

A few days ago I was working on a paper and after finishing, as opposed to turning the laptop off, saved the paper and let my laptop go into sleep mode. I've done this before and it's never hurt anything, but the next day when I turned my laptop back on it had troubles starting back up. I eventually had to take the battery out and restart it that way. After that, as the week progressed, my laptop just kept lagging more and more. It got to the point where I would just have to let it sit for twenty or so minutes, and then it would work fine from then on out. Knowing something was up, I decided to see if I needed to download any new updates, which I figured was possible since I just got my laptop back from GeekSquad about a few weeks ago for a different problem, and it was behind on updates then since it had been turned off for three weeks.
So, to cut a long story short, I downloaded the "vaio entertainment platform library updater, version 1.0.2.08150" because my Vaio Update was telling me it was important I have it but it couldn't download it for some reason. The install wizard for it told me I needed to restart my computer, and so I did, and when I turned it back on it got stuck on a black screen. Eventually, I took the battery out so it would offer me the option of going into Safe Mode due to improper shutdown. I did, and tried to use "misconfig" to at least get me back to my desktop. After messing with that for a bit, and using "System Restore" to return my laptop to how it was before I installed the update, I eventually could get back to my desktop. My laptop automatically downloaded three new updates using Windows Update, and it went back to that same black screen when I restarted it, so I had to repeat the whole procedure so I could get back to my desktop, which I finally did.

I made a thread about this about a month ago, but I did everything I was told to do and nothing changed. This laptop is way too slow. The audio is just a big mess from the login screen and onward(really laggy and static-y). I ran some malware stuff and registry repair as suggested, in safe mode and normal mode, but nothing was fixed. After a few hours, I gave up and dual-booted Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked perfectly. Speed was excellent, audio was too. The only problem is I just use PCs for gaming and chatting, and I can't do much gaming with Ubuntu. So, any idea what could be the problem here? I even tried windirstats too see if any huge files that weren't supposed to be there were causing this, because I once had a problem on my own computer where I had this huge file that slowed down everything and wouldn't let me delete it until I did so in safe mode and then everything worked perfectly again.also, at the boot up menu, there are two loaders. one for vista, one for windows 7. windows 7 just starts up 7, while the vista loader goes to some menu thing that looks like it was booted from a disc.1.it has the options to reset to factory settings and format the C: drive 2.has the option to reset, but keep data

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop A500. It comes with the option for either x64/x86 and I reformatted hard drive just yesterday. I chose to use x64 because of the 3GB RAM restriction using x86.It takes a long time to boot up. I've disabled as many programs as I can to start-up with Windows. Don't have an anti-virus program as yet, and I'm using the default Windows 7 Firewall.[CODE]
