XFX HD6950 1GB - 99 Percent Activity While Running No Programs
Mar 9, 2012
My XFX HD6950 1GB is running at 95%-99% when not performing any tasks. Here are some solutions i tried which did not work:
- I restarted my pc but that did not solve the problem.
- I tried to reinstall my driver but that also did not fix the problem.
The driver I am running for my GPU is the latest catalyst control centre. The problem started a few hours ago but my pc did not crash (yet).

I currently connect my LG Flatron W2361V Monitor & my HD 5830 GPU with a HDMI cable, however some times when I turn my monitor off & come back to turn it on it takes a long time to pic up a signal & when it does system feels slow. However after checking the Catalyst Control Centre is showed my GPU Activity was 99% & it stops like that until I reboot.

Just got a brand new Samsung Series 7 laptop and everything was working fine until i started installing windows updates. The cpu is now stuck at around 15% load and there's constant disk activity too. I run msconfig.exe and disabled programs that I don't really use much, run disk defrag just too make sure the disk was working well. As a result my cpu is running hot (65 degrees) and the battery drains pretty quick.

I have two computers, one computer runs smoothly at a cpu level of around 10%, and has less RAM, hard drive space, and runs more cpu related tasks, it has a duel core 2.4, my other computer, however, runs at 100% all the time, no matter how many processes I kill in tskmgr.exe, it runs incredibly slow, it has a duel core 2.2. I've ran malwarebytes, CCleaner, registry cleaner, defrag, and it still runs at 100%, it didn't used to do this, it's happened for at least two months, but it keeps getting worse.

Sometime I do somewhat intensive processing that causes 85% of my 6GB ram to be used. But when 85% is being used, my machine completely slows down for all other tasks including very basic tasks like opening Windows Explorer. Surely the remaining 15% should be more than enough to open Windows Explorer without any latency. I'm using 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Also, I should state that the CPU usage is very low at these times.

As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

My PC works great most of the time. But...I wanted to install ASUS Smart Doctor on my PC and I get the error "GPU not detected" ! I have updated and cleaned and reinstalled my Graphics driver many times. When I check my "device mannager" it tells me my Graphics Card is installed and working properly ! So which is it ?I can ignore all this and go on about my bussiness, but like today, I got a BSOD because I tried to watch a video using the wrong player. It restarts fine and I can watch any movie I have on this PC, which is a lot.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop that keeps giving me a message stating "The following programs are still running...." My issue is the list of programs is empty. So, if nothing is running why am I getting this message?I just need to figure out how to get my computer to shut down without having to go through all the annoyance of having to keep sitting at my computer once I tell it to shut down.

I have a 32 bit 2010 Office Home and Student version loaded on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium version. I received a 32 bit VBA Excel program that will open fine, but when I enable macros I get the VBA message: Compile error in hidden module: modtimebomb. I'm told this 32 bit VBA Excel program works fine when running on a 32 bit windows system. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?

I want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.

So I downloaded a bunch of wallpapers to get a nice shuffle going on. Went into personalization and checked everything I wanted to get shown in the shuffle and saved it as its own theme.
The problem is that after I run programs (games, mostly - usually L4D, but just five minutes ago, Oblivion as well) the theme will have somehow switched to a new, unsaved and modified theme that is just fixed on whatever background I had up before running the program.
It's really just a minor annoyance, as I I just have to right click->personalize and select my saved theme again, but still - anyone know why it would be messing with my shuffle custom theme?

I'm looking for a way to keep my computer from sleep when I have certain programs from running.I'm most likely looking for an application that runs in the background with a list of some sort, and if a program on that list is open, the computer will not sleep after the "1 hour" of inactive mouse use, that I have set in power options.

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.
The external is set to my main display.
Any ideas on what's going on?

I am trying to get it to run on my new Windows 7 machine, with no luck. Windows has a patch to run XP programs, but it is not available for my home version of Windows.

My laptop kept shutting off on me within 5 minutes of use about a month ago due to overheating. I took the laptop apart and noticed the fan wasn't working so I ordered a new one and installed it. Now the fans working great and the computer runs, however, the processor seems to be idling high. It seems to constantly increase processor usage even when no programs are running and back again to a base line in a constant pattern as can be seen from the attached cpu usage chart. I have disabled pretty much everything from starting on windows start up and have scanned for viruses and defragged my disk but to no avail. My laptop has a core i3 processor.

I am about to install Windows 7 64 bit on a new-build PC, so it will be a new install and on a new formatted hard drive. I have three other hard drives on which all the program and other files were created under Vista 32 bit. I know I can transfer the files which are installed on my Vista boot hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer, but when I am running Windows 7 will it recognise all the programs and files on the existing drives if I just leave them there?

this is really annoying when playing a game as it causes the game to drop out and go back to the desktop. it also does it when watching a Internet video on full screen or watching a video in windows media player blocking the controls and being generally unsightly in both cases.
i don't want the taskbar gone completely, i just don't want it interfering when i'm not using the blasted thing!

Aside from the surge itself, what other negative effects could arise from experiencing an outage while multiple programs are open and running? For example, if I lost power while regedit was open, could it change or possibly cause damage the registry itself? The machine in question is currently running Win 7 SP1 64-bit.

I've recently installed a Kingston SSD and did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. It runs well most of the time, but once or twice a day, usually when browsing the internet using Chrome or Firefox, the mouse pointer will go to the "busy" circle, and the program will stop responding. When it does this, I can't click on any other programs on the taskbar or use ALT-TAB to switch to another program.he mouse moves, but I can't interact with anything. If I'm playing music with Spotify in the background, or video chatting on Skype, they still run in the background, the skype video for the recipient doesn't even freeze. So it seems that all the programs are running, but my user interface stops working properly.
