Blank/Black Screen Problem During Clean Install

Nov 21, 2009

After few seconds start screen disappears and is repalced by a Black/Blank screen with only mouse pointer. Mouser is working but there is nothing on screen to click on. Keyboard is working fine too. (checked with NumLock and Caps Lock keys)

Nothing happends beyond this point even after rebooting and repeating above process.

Searched internet for above problem symptoms. Looks like Windows 7 decides default monitor on its own. There is no way to decide it yourself duing installation.

My motherboard has two ports. 1 DVI and 1 analog. I have only 1 Analog monitor and do not plan on buying/having another monitor.

DVI to analog convertor is not available in market to test display from DVI port.

Could somebody please help?

Blank Screen After Clean Install Of Windows 7?

Mar 28, 2011

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my PC again, and came to a blank screen after the reboot. I have the PC hooked up to a TV using the S-Video output on my graphics card, and suspect that win 7 is using the DVI port instead. There is no way at the moment that I can use the DVI port because I don't have a monitor that supports it.

is there a way around this so I can use the S-video output for the rest of the installation?

Windows 7 Clean Install Blank Screen?

Feb 23, 2012

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a new SSD, my old hard drive crashed. My video card is an onboard ATI Radeon HD 4250. Initial setup works fine, but when the computer reboots it comes back up blank. I'm already running two monitors, one VGA and one DVI, and safe mode doesn't work either, I've tried booting from a flash drive and a dvd with exactly the same results.

Fresh Install Of Windows 7 Results In A Blank Black Screen?

Nov 18, 2012

I just installed a fresh copy of windows 7, the setup process even took me far enough to create the account, time, homegroup settings ect. It seemed successful. Then it restarts one final time and results in a blank screen after the bios screen flashes. I've tried every setting in the BIOS with no avail. Pressing CTRL ALT DEL at the blank screen just restarts the computer, flashes the bios as usual, and then when you should see the windows loading sign it loads a blank screen with no mouse cursor at all.

I've already tried formatting twice and it results in the same exact issue. The computer was working fine before hand, didn't add any hardware or anything.

Clean Install Last Reboot Goes Into Black Screen / White Blinking

Dec 7, 2011

So, Im doing a clean windows 7 install. Here are the facts: [code] After the final stage of the setup where you enter PC name, set the password, enter time settings etc, the setup restarts the computer for the 'final' time, final indeed. What happens is that after the Bios / device scan, Windows won't boot and it won't continue past the black screen with the white blinking _ showing in the top left.Could this be because C: has been 'occupied' (or set as master partition) by the 1480GB partition and won't boot from the 105GB partition where Windows was installed? It's so weird because the first two reboots go without problem, no need to F8 and manually select the disk rather than the USB pen or anything.. But on the final reboot, nothing.

Crashes To Blank (black) Screen While Gaming?

Dec 23, 2011

My computer frequently crashes to a blank (black) screen when I play games like TES V or Fable III, and leaves me no alternative but to do a hard reset with the power button. I've cleaned out the air vents several times to no avail, and I'm pretty sure my video drivers are up to date. As far as I can tell the CPU isn't being overused either.I've had a very similar problem before, and last time cleaning the vents out with a compressed air can did the trick. The only difference last time is that it wasn't always a blank screen, sometimes it hard weird vertical lines all over it.

Clean Windows 7 Install-loading Files To Scrolling Progress Bar To Blank Desktop W/cursor?

May 5, 2010

When I try to do a clean install of Windows 7 I get the loading files white progress bar you normally get during an installation, it then goes directly to the scrolling progress bar that would normally appear before a Windows startup, and then goes to a blank Windows 7 desktop with only a cursor (that I can move).I have a computer with the following specs:[CODE]I have tried to install with every version I can get my hands on, both 32 and 64 bit. None of them are upgrade versions. I've tried installing on a fresh WD Raptor and an Intel G25 SSD. All other drives have been disconnected. I've moved my memory around and tried with one stick. My mainboard has the latest official BIOS, although there is a new beta.

I ran the Windows 7 compatibility test and didn't see anything that would cause this problem.I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a solution sonstalling Windows XP has never been a problem, just Windows 7, always with the same problem. This is one of the few times when I have not been able to look around a find an existing answer to a problem and I am stumped.

Clean Installation Problems (Black Screen)

Nov 11, 2009

So i'm trying to do a clean install of windows 7 (x36) from XP that im currently running. i've burnt the iso down on a dvd and it boots fine and the installation runs normally. I'm getting through all the steps within the installation when it at last says something about that it's done and it's going to restart for the first use of windows 7. Now i'm getting my problem.

The computer starts up and goes through the memory testing and such but just as it's about to start windows 7 i'm getting a black screen and my monitor says "No signal - blabla" and 3 seconds later it restarts itself. If i don't do anything now my computer loops this restarting on and on...

So i've tried to install it with removing my two 512mb RAMS and only have two 1gb of the same brand. Didn't help.

Fresh Install Blank Screen (sort Of)?

Nov 19, 2012

after searching on microsoft's website, google and finally Tomshardware... I couldnt find anything close to what im experiencing. My computer was working fine, no issues or problems. I decided to do a fresh install because it had been about 1.5 years. Thats where all the trouble started....I have a legal Copy of windows and a Legal CD I bought from a store so piracy isnt an issue.1) I tried to install windows 7 home prem 64 bit and i kept getting a Missing Boot Mgr message. I figured out that when windows was installing it wasnt creating the 100mb partition for system files and what not.2) After fix that, my computer would not boot to desktop unless i had the Windows 7 CD in... I unplugged all other HDD's (2 Storage), Reformated and it worked.

3) Now once windows finished installing, I opened a few basic programs without installing any drivers or updates. Everything worked, left it up and idled for an hour no problems, ran tests on Mem and HDD no problems either. 4) I did my windows updates and it installed after which it prompted me to restart... I did and thats when the problem happens. I takes a very long time to boot into my desktop and once there, I have a 1920x1080 resolution (from 800x600) and i have no Icons, taskbar or anything but my wallpaper... if i press Alt + Ctrl + Del i get a black screen and if i press ESC i get my wallpaper background back...5) I deleted the partition & reformated, and same issue after updates. The comptuer works perfectly fine in safemode and boots to my desktop... It is very weird. I ran Windows repair and I even open CMD Prompt and typed in the commands to fix the boot, fix the MBR and scan the OS, Everything was fix or operational.

Windows 7 Clean Install Stuck On Start-up Screen?

Dec 4, 2012

So I had finally got my first build ever running a few hours ago. Was so excited. I used the program wintoflash to copy my windows installation cd to my flash drive. Popped the flash drive in my new rig and booted it up. It went to installation and took a bit of time to completely install. As it restarted after install the windows startup came up and was continuously going for quite some time and never stopped. So where I am at is that I cant get past the start up screen.

I have tried so much. I pulled out the second stick of ram, the gpu.. ran memory check with no errors, tried re installing windows in many ways (different partitions).I tried running in safe mode but it just gets stuck at disk. The only thing I knoticed is that windows 7 installs faster the second time around, even after deleting all the memory on the hard drive (advanced option during install). I have browsed the web and nothing has helped. Just got a new mobo after replacing the last defected one today, so that cannot be the problem. Completely and utterly frustrated to be presented with another speedbump after all this hard work to get it running.

My rig:
Intel i-5 3rd gen.
Kingston hyperx 2x8gb
AsRock b75m-dgs motherboard.
nvidia gt 440
Western Digital Caviar 250gb 7200.

Windows 7 Clean Install Blue Screen No Icons

Dec 27, 2012

Ive been running Win 7 Ultimate 64 for over a year with no problems. For Christmas I got a new HD because my old ones were full. I copied my files from my two old hard drives to the new one and then tried to do a clean install. After the installation when windows boots for the first time it works, but the picture has about two inches of black space all around and the resolution is at like 800x600. Im pretty sure the only thing i need to do to fix that is install and update my graphics drivers. The problem is after I start installing updates I have to restart windows. When it boots up for the second time all the black space is gone and the picture looks right but it always stops right after the black windows loading screen on the default background with no icons, only my curser. Ive tried to install windows again but the same thing happens. Ive tried safe mode and last known good config. Startup repair finds no problems at all. And when i restore with a system image the problem comes back as soon as I update something then restart.

Error Recovery Screen Appears During Windows 7 Clean Install To SSD

Apr 29, 2012

I'm weeks of spasmodic attempts into replacing my old C-drive with a new SSD and a clean install of Windows 7, 32 bit. Here's the current loop: Following Sandisk's instructions on formatting SSD for use as OS with Win 7:

1) I verify BIOS - SATA is (as before) set to ACHI
2) I place Windows 7 upgrade disc in drive, hoping to use "Option 1 - normal clean install" (from Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version )
3) I get "Windows Error Recovery" screen, stating "windows did not shut down normally" (white text on black screen), with two options - start normally, or startup repair.

- if I select "start normally," it merely returns (after a minute or two) to the same Error Recovery screen after some POSTs (nothing other than single-beep) - no request for my input, no "press any key," etc.
- if I select default ("startup repair") option load: "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" ultimately results after a lot of attempting to repair, etc.

PC will still run Ok from old HD when connected, and shows the SSD in Disk Management with a "System Reserved" 100 MB (F) partition along with a 112GB (E) partition. I keep thinking I need to wipe those and try again, but not sure how or if that's even worth trying. I did have the same SSD up and running Win 7 for a brief time - didn't start at some point afterwards...

Black Screen On Finishing Install

Mar 4, 2011

I've had this issue on two builds now (issue came out the blue on the first build and assumed, wrongly of what part had broken), upon the final part of the install where the installer states finishing install the monitor goes blank (no cursor etc) in the same manner as during a graphics driver install however it fails to return to the rest of the install, occasionally if left blank for long enough and the system is restarted it will boot up and into windows. However upon installing the ati drivers for my radeon 4870x2, and restarting, windows will then hang on the loading windows logo and not progress further. I have read on the forums that this may be due to the power supply, however the power supply is of a different model (850w XFX Black Edition), however i have only had this power supply a small amount of time as i bought it to replace a corsair psu that died on me. Across the builds I have swapped (and tested in other machines) every part except the hard drives and the power supply and have experienced the same issue.  After approximately 5-6mins of the loading windows logo it displays a quick blue screen then restarts. Current build specs are: ASUS M4A88T-M motherboard4 gig of corsair xms 3 ramradeon 4870x2and athlon 2 x3 (3.2ghz) Just wanting a second opinion before i splash out on another power supply.

Black Screen During Finishing Install

Nov 9, 2009

Ok, heres the deal, I have been trying to install windows 7 on this pc for awhile now, I cannot figure this problem out no matter how hard I try.

The installation goes fine up until 'finishing installation' when which the screen just goes black and never does anything, ever overnight.

After restarting it will goto the logo screen and then just load onto a black screen, again never doing anything further.

Finally, when attempting to access safe mode, it loads up to classpnp.sys and then freezes.

Now, I have tried many many things to fix this and done lots of Googling but nothing has worked, other versions of Windows install and work fine.

Things tried...

1. swapping video cards
2. Switched monitors (I have read there can be an issue relating to this with needing a VGA plugged in however my card does not offer VGA, nor do I have onboard video.
3. Multiple installs of diff win 7 versions
4. Bios tinkering and restoring defaults.
5. many other things...

If someone could somehow help figure this out, then well I would be really appreciative...

Windows 7 Install Black Screen

Aug 25, 2012

I have just bought a Zoostorm PC off of eBuyer as it was only £150. I am trying to install Windows 7 on it. I boot into the DVD no problem, get the usual grey "Windows is loading files" progress bar and then the windows logo saying windows is starting. At this point the screen goes black and everything stops. After some googling and numerous different possibilities it seemed most likely a graphics driver issue. I have an nVidia GeForce 210 that ive put in to see if this helps, and i get the same issue but this time i get a mouse pointer in the middle of the black screen. If i keep moving the mouse the cursor moves for a second after the windows logo disappears then freezes.

* Resetting the BIOS to defaults.
* Using the onboard graphics
* Using my graphics card
* Re-seating the RAM
* Slipstreaming the SATA drivers into the Win 7 Install DVD.
* Changing SATA mode to AHCI, IDE and RAID.

I have also tried installing windows XP. This is successful and detects the hard drive without me having to specify additional drivers. Upon restarting the PC and booting into the second part of the install it freezes on the pale blue wallpaper that setup uses.

Black Screen With Blinking Cursor On Install?

Jul 2, 2011

My computer would not get past the start up screen it just froze at the Windows 7 logo. Prior to this, I had absolutely no problems. I shut it down one night and came to start it the next morning and it wouldn't load. I format the drive and tried to reinstall Windows 7. It seemed to load everything fine and got to the "Completing Install" part, then just flicked to a completely black screen with a blinking line in the top left-hand corner.I did read on one forum that perhaps it was a RAM issue, so I removed one stick and the process actually completed! I thought I had nailed it. After setting my computer back up and with everything working just fine, I put the RAM back in. On restart, it locked at the logo again, so I figured it was definitely bad RAM, HOWEVER!! Even with the RAM now removed, I cannot get Windows 7 to reinstall. I am still getting this awful black screen with a blinking cursor.

Can't Install Windows 7 Getting Black Screen With Cursor

Jul 26, 2010

I'm having some problems with my PC, and suspect it MAY be related to Windows 7. Yesterday I was using my PC and it started crashing. It would either freeze, show me a blue screen error and reboot, or just flat out reboot. I believe the problem is one of three possible things: Windows 7 problems, bad motherboard, bad CPU. I've been using this PC in this configuration with no changes since November, 2009 when I upgraded my PC, and haven't had any problems with it until recently. I have an upgrade disc, and I always do the Clean Install option. I tested it with different video card & sound card configurations, and with a single memory stick in different ports, etc. I've also downloaded and ran Seagate's SeaTools program to do a hard drive check and it came out clean. No matter what hardware configuration I tried, it still crashed. It would work for about 5 minutes, then crash. Strange thing is, it would not crash if it were in safe mode, which led me to believe it was a problem with Windows or possibly some drivers.I tried to do a system restore and, as usual, it didn't help at all. I finally decided to just try and wipe the hard drive and do a clean install. Every time I try to install Windows 7, it goes through the install process until it gets to the last step, reboots, then when the progress bar is about 3/4 of the way through, I just get a black screen with my mouse cursor. I can move the cursor, but can't do anything else. Hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing. i've tried installing it at least 4 times and always get the same result. I also tried installing the 32-bit version of Windows 7, same thing. When I install an older copy of Windows XP Pro that I have, it will install but that's about it. It won't let me install my video drivers or do much else with it.

This setup has been working without issue since November, 2009. I've not even opened the case in at least 6 months, and dont install a ton of new programs. Haven't installed anything in the last 2 weeks. The main reason that I suspect a possible problem with the motherboard is that I have had a problem where, when booting up the PC, I get a very quiet tone during the POST test, then I get the usual *beep* and it boots up. There was a problem for a while where it wouldn't boot up, and I would just shut it down & restart it and it worked fine. More often than not, it would boot and work with no problem, so I didn't bother doing a warranty return on it. I've been looking through the forums here and I've tried recovering the boot record as outlined here: MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record - Windows 7 Forums

Black Screen Arrow After Win7 64bit Install

Aug 30, 2009

I upgraded from Vista64 to Windows7 64bit final (not a clean install) on an HP M9300T desktop.

Everything worked fine, until the final restart. System will start, I get the colored thingees, I get the Welcome screen, when it should go to my desktop, I get only a black screen with the arrow in the middle. Even if I boot into safe mode, I still only get the black screen...

I've tried reinstalling x4.

I can hit CRTL+ALT+DEL and get to the task manager, and I can run task, programs go on-line etc.

Ran the Nvidia control applet, the monitor is set to native resolution @ 59hz. Don't know if that is causing a problem, I've changed it but it doesn't seem to stay set.

Other than the DVI output I've tried VGA and HDMI outputs to several different screens from the GS 9800 video card, no change.

I even browsed to the Nvidia site and installed their latest Windows 7 64bit WHQL drivers. I've disconnected everything except the keyboard, monitor and mouse, I've pulled every card out of it except the video card, no change?

PC Hangs On Black Screen During Shutdown - Fresh Install Windows 7 SP1

Oct 17, 2012

I recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine. As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant firewire port I unhooked from the Mobo. I then booted and peformed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down. Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive.

I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processers and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates). Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down. One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting, just shutting down...
