View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a major problem with windows 7 home premium which was an upgrade over vista. A while back I started having problems when I ran windows update. Almost every time it ran and I rebooted later all I got was a black screen with the mouse curser. When I rebooted a second time I got my desktop but none of my programs would load. I would get the spiral and then it stopped. The hard drive was chugging away. I usually got around this by going back 2 or 3 systems restores and then it worked fine. I recently used revo uninstaller to get rid of a program and to clean up the registry. It created a system restore and then I rebooted. When I rebooted I got a message of some disk problems and ran 3 corrective actions (I don't know what they do) including chkdsk and then rebooted. I got my desktop again but nothing loaded.
I did safe bootup to get to the system restore but they had all disappeared. Apparently either the disk or registry got corrupted. I can go on the internet in safe mode or load programs but can't print. I would love to be able solve the problem why programs can't load so I wouldn't be dependent on systems restore and get my laptop running normally. It is a Dell inspiron with intel core 2 duo
It worked Ok. Originally installed with Home Premium disk. Upgraded to Pro version online--no disk. It worked until I changed the secondary drive to an old one to get data from it. Only get black screen. Even put the original secondary drive back in. Still no go.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen Win 7 pro (32 bits) boots up, as we all notice, there is a second or so when there is a black screen, w/ just your mouse cursor, and then you are supposed to see the blue Welcome screen.
In the past 2 months, my computer is stuck at that black screen about 7 times, as recent as tonight. I've done a clean install w/ the latest Nvidia driver 2 weeks ago. No change. It looks like win 7 Pro is stuck there and waiting for something as my hard drive light blink on and off.
So, I would do nothing, or sometimes I would disconnect the HDMI port connects to my 3rd PC Panel (see below), and I would wait for 5 min. or so. Then my login logo shows up, I click it, and I got to windows.
Now, w/ the normal boot up, I don't have that login logo, win 7 pro will simply boot up directly to win 7 main screen after I turn on the computer.
Some1 said this could be IRQ sensing problem of the video card. But so far, I have no proof on that 1 way or the other: All these started about 2 months ago, at or near the same time when the Sharp LED TV technician came to my house and upgraded all the firmware, including the firmware that consumers can't download, to my Sharp LED LCD TV, as the power button wasn't working.
Then in the past 2 mth., every time I turned on my LCD TV, which is connected to my computer as the 3rd screen via a DVI to HDMI cable, Win 7 senses this 3rd panel, and the screen went black and back on again. This isn't the way it used to be: as it WAS NOT SWITCH TO THE HDMI PC PORT.
My Sharp LCD has 4 HDMI output. Tonight for e.g., I was on Input 2, which is satellite, but as soon as I turn on the Sharp LCD, win 7 senses this 3rd screen, and the screen do that black screen then back on again w/ the music charm note.
This was not the way it used to be, in the past yr., w/ this same set up, win 7 only went to the black screen and back on when I switch to Input 1, which is PC at 1920x1080. And I don't know if the above is related to the boot up lock up or not.
I just finished a new built and I ran into a problem after installing Windows 7. I was setting up some some drivers the PC randomly went to a black pixelated screen and it sounds like the CPU fan started running on max speed. Now, every time I turn it on the fan is still running on max speed and the screen goes black soon after the desktop starts up. I know it could be a hundred things but it be huge if you guys have any information on this issue. One last thing is I switched the main graphics card back to the integrated one and it seems to be running okay but I only had it on for a few minutes because the CPU fan is still running on MAX.

I have just bought a Zoostorm PC off of eBuyer as it was only £150. I am trying to install Windows 7 on it. I boot into the DVD no problem, get the usual grey "Windows is loading files" progress bar and then the windows logo saying windows is starting. At this point the screen goes black and everything stops.After some googling and numerous different possibilities it seemed most likely a graphics driver issue. I have an nVidia GeForce 210 that ive put in to see if this helps, and i get the same issue but this time i get a mouse pointer in the middle of the black screen. If i keep moving the mouse the cursor moves for a second after the windows logo disappears then freezes.
* Resetting the BIOS to defaults.
* Using the onboard graphics
* Using my graphics card
* Re-seating the RAM
* Slipstreaming the SATA drivers into the Win 7 Install DVD.
* Changing SATA mode to AHCI, IDE and RAID.
I have also tried installing windows XP. This is successful and detects the hard drive without me having to specify additional drivers. Upon restarting the PC and booting into the second part of the install it freezes on the pale blue wallpaper that setup uses.
I just upgraded to Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite Special Edition laptop that came with Vista 64bit and the other night i downloaded iTunes 10 and told me to restart my machine so I clicked ok and then my laptop shut off and when it came back on the Toshiba screen came up as usual but seemed to stay on longer than normal then it goes to a black screen with a underscore that blinks for a few moments then becomes solid. Ive tried to use the "F" keys to get different boot options because i have the windows 7 ISO disc and a ubuntu disc that I could use but whatever i try my laptop wont process it just does the same thing over and over again and bever proceeds to the actually boot up windows.

Upon reboot, I get the black screen of death with just the cursor instead of the usual login screen. Now, I know that the hard drive itself is alright, that is, the information is still all there still. While I can't give you exact specs, I can tell you that I am on a Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm at a loss as to what else to do. Despite being a black screen, with just a movable cursor, the system still appears to be running, as every few minutes, it will show the "thinking" cursor, where it shows the little circle next to the arrow.

But I screwed that up big time.Now I get the following error message on a black screen when I attempt to boot up: Windows Failed to start. My system runs completely fine, but whenever I try to LiveBoot my screen goes black after about 5-10 minutes. Same goes with when I try to do a daily Windows Format/Installation and Safe Mode.

I turn on my computer to eventually get a black screen with white cursor that will move around. The Toshiba insignia comes up beforehand as well as the windows four square icon then it is to this black screen and white cursor. I cant seem to get the computer to boot up from Windows 7 installation disc. Sometimes I also get a BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot. message as well. I imagine there is a solution of sorts as it seems many people have had a similar problem. I have a freind who maybe able to fix it seeing he is a computer programmer but that is not until the end of the week.

I just did my first build and I am having a big problem with installing windows 7 on it. When I boot it's starts loading and then I get a black screen. I didn't get any options before or any command.

I couldn't find another thread relating to the exact same problem, as they have hijackthis logs etc. whereas I cannot get onto my laptop to do anything at all.I am running a Dell Studio 1555 with Windows 7. When I turn it on I can hear it boot, but everytime the screen just stays black. I cannot start it in safemode or do anything. It is just blackI can think is that the other day I used CC Cleaner and it did some things to the registry. Otherwise I have not downloaded anything or done anything that should suddenly make it stop working.

I later that day (as I could not boot into Windows 7), I deleted the Linux partitions with Windows 7 DVD. Now, after BIOS I just get a white blinking border on a black screen.

I have purchased an OEM pc yesterday and I installed windows 7 x64 on it. Everything went great with installation. No errors or anything. But when I restarted my computer, after the motherboard splash screen a black screen with a blinking cursor top left appears and windows doesn't boot. But sometimes, especially when I wait a few minutes to turn it on it boots normally till I shut it down. It is so random.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm loading a new system and encountering a problem I haven't seen before. I have a Gigabyte Z77MXD3H motherboard with an Intel i5 3570 proc. When I boot to the Windows 7 install disk I get the BIOS splash screen, then the monitor goes so dim I can't read any text during the boot process but I can tell there is text on the screen. The monitor's menu also appears so dark its unusable. After some time the text mode finishes and the Windows install menu pops up and everything returns to normal. I can find loads of posts about black screens after windows boots, but not before.

When i boot into WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM. i hear windows logon screen notification noise but see nothing! oddly enough even my built in webcam logs me in with VeriFace software with my face, passwordless! What i have tried: the keyboard is also unresponsive, bcz i held down a bunch of keys to see if it makes the beep noise. I closed the laptop lid to see if it goes into hibernation and waited 3 mins to see if it still does, so that when i open it i can see everything (it has worked before). nothing. i rebooted a bunch of times even with a second screen attached, tried to guess switch into projector mode with my function key and switch screen/projector button. i have also done a power cycle. i think the registry is screwed, or maybe the graphics card drivers are ruined. have not done a registry repair through the other windows version (doing that next). i have defragged both partitions for both of the windows 7 versions through the one that works.What may have caused it: the last time i used home premium, i rebooted so that i can use the ultimate version (for the extra capabilities). i was not watching and it booted up in home premium, and the built in cam is so fast that i merely looked at the laptop and it logged me in. i was being unpatient, bcz you have to wait for the lenovo programs to load before you can restart. so i forced shut down (very bad idea) by holding the power button and booted up in ultimate finally while watching.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine. As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant firewire port I unhooked from the Mobo. I then booted and peformed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down. Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive.
I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processers and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates). Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down. One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting, just shutting down...
I just installed a fresh copy of windows 7, the setup process even took me far enough to create the account, time, homegroup settings ect. It seemed successful. Then it restarts one final time and results in a blank screen after the bios screen flashes. I've tried every setting in the BIOS with no avail. Pressing CTRL ALT DEL at the blank screen just restarts the computer, flashes the bios as usual, and then when you should see the windows loading sign it loads a blank screen with no mouse cursor at all.
I've already tried formatting twice and it results in the same exact issue. The computer was working fine before hand, didn't add any hardware or anything.
The Windows logo appears and everything seems fine. Then everything goes black with no sounds. It will then reboot and cycle back through the same way.
