on Windows 7 machines? I would like to avoid customers from having to do a manual update on hundreds of machines. I was hoping there is some tool that can do that. I go the cab file from the Windows Update Catalog.
For some reason the driver for my large format scanner will not install stating it is missing a file in the TEMP folder, however when I open it it is there. (It stopped working, along with my other printer drivers at the update) I tried shutting off firewall entirely, and turning on read/write permission on the user folder but nothing avails. I even did a system restore but could not go back beyond the first update which is where the problem started I guess. Also the Remove or restore function of the installer shows same error.
Windows 7 RC1 7100 I'm looking for an easier way to close down six USB devices (USB external backup hard drives) than closing them one at a time in the little 'open devices' menu. Is there a utility or setting to automate the process when logging off or shutting down?
-At home, I want to use DHCP on my wireless network.
-At work, I want to IGNORE the DHCP address that the wireless network gives me, and force an IP address. Configuring the router to reserve an IP for my MAC is not an option due to a bloated corporate bureaucracy.
Right now, I have to go into control panel and manually configure the network EVERY DAY and while it's not all THAT much work, it's annoying. Is there any way to automate the process?
After doing a basic install of Windows 7, patch etc, I would like to be able to automate many post-install setup options/preferences and I'm wondering what the best approach to this would be. For example, adding specific toolbars, resizing toolbar and buttons, folder options, etc... all the little things we tweak after we get our system setup. The only thing that comes to mind now is to watch the registry with some software and see where the changes I make get recorded, my fear is that not all of them may be stored there...
I have an HP Deskjet 1220C printer connected to my PC running Windows XP. My laptop is running Windows 7 64-bit. When I connect the printer directly to the laptop Windows Update finds and installs the driver, no problems. However, when I connect to the printer over the network, Windows Update fails to install a driver.
I back up my files and system image weekly. I move the recorded TV shows (broadcast TV, nothing illegal) before that from my hard drive onto an external drive. Another drive in the same cabinet does the backup. It saves time and I won't want those files after a disc failure anyway. It would be cool to be able to program the computer to move those files (but not subfolders) over at, say 11.05 pm in preparation for the midnight backup. It would be easier to put the recorded TV in a subfolder though I suppose... then no code would have to be written to ignore subfolders, right?
I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
I've got a problem with a windows update that won't install.I get an error code of 57E. The update is for Office2003.I tried the troubleshooting for updates but my browser (Firefox) crashes when I try to use it. I did some research about error code 57E and the cure had to do with repair of registry.
The latest Windows update just does not install, it goes until 35% then the puter shuts down and reboots.I tried with the "Fixit" tool from Microsoft, but it doesn't help at all.I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit?
Everytime I close the system, I get the message that windows is installing an update but it doesn't update and this has been going on for 2 months. It is a critical update so I can't delete it before I power down. I have updated all my drivers so don't know what to do next. I'm running windows 7 64 bit.

I keep getting a Windows installer pop-up saying that "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue....." I click "Ok," and the pop-up goes away but comes back. I'm not trying to install anything, and I don't know what program may be trying to install or update or whatever it's doing. Is there a way to find out what program it is so I can get it to stop?
I did a Windows 7 reinstall on my HP Pavillion. I thought it was working fine. The internet was running very, very slow so I did a restart. When it rebooted this came up: " Please do not power off or unplug while installing update 10 to 116..." Well it's been at 10 of 116 for an hour now. Nothing seems to be happening. I fear I might have done the Windows 7 reinstall wrong. After all, it only took on of the DVDs that HP sent to me.
When I turn off my computer, it often says "please do not unplug or power off your machine, installing update 1 of 1".The message stays on for ever, and the actual update seems to materialize. Keyboard hits have no effect. I need to pull the power cable and re-start !What can I do to stop this from happening?

I really need some help installing Java Version 6 Update 26. I was clearing junk out of my computer and I deleted the Java folder in Program Files(x86) by accident. At first, I'm like "Oh, well I guess I could just go to the site and redownload it." This is where the problem is. On the website it says to uninstall any traces of Java before reinstalling it. I have unfinished/corrupted traces that wont let me uninstall. So I went ahead and tried downloading it. That comes up, so obviously the corrupted install is in the way. So, I just try to reinstall as it says. Then this comes up: After that, this comes up. I've looked everywhere on Google. At first, I thought it was a problem with my Windows Installer, but it says Windows Installer 5.0.7600.16385 when I type MSIExec in the Command Prompt. Before I knew that, I thought it was because I didn't have Windows 7 Service Pack 1, then I got that. It didn't help the problem I'm having.
