I keep getting a Windows installer pop-up saying that "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue....." I click "Ok," and the pop-up goes away but comes back. I'm not trying to install anything, and I don't know what program may be trying to install or update or whatever it's doing. Is there a way to find out what program it is so I can get it to stop?

Windows Update is failing for some reason (I was successfully able to install 2 updates, but all of the others fail)
I am getting an "unknown error" 80070308, and while there seems to be one other reference to this on a MSFT forum, the solutions there were basically restart the update service, which doesn't work, or rename some of the Windows files... which I did as well to no avail.
Does anyone know what this error is? Or had it before?
How do I stop Windows 7 (64Bit) from asking "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" i.e. How do I give permanent permission just to specific programs to allow them to run?

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I have done a system backup of my portable and restored it to a larger hard disk. Everything is working OK except for Windows Update. When I try to run Windows Update I get a task isn't running message - Unknown Error 8024A000. I have replaced the old hard disk and Windows Update works just fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.
Ghost Shot> This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing restores from Ghost 15,etc. Anyway, ghost was backing up my system C: drive before last week. I have yet to even try and use Ghost to see if it would successfully restore my OS but I've been using it to backup my C: drive anyways. Prior to last week it could backup my C: drive fine. I might try a Ghost restore point from a few weeks back before this happened but not sure yet[CODE]
So when ever I get an update notice to update Internet explorer 9 and I try updating it, it always cancel because of some weird error that windows cant troubleshoot. I try downloading it from the Microsoft website, and it doesn't install. It says it does but I still end up with ie7. I know tootle chrome is 100x better but I have it and I think upgrading it will boost my system performance a bit.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
My Windows update appears corupt it fails to update and the screen is relativly bland however it looks like it is trying to connect but never does anything

Yesterday I put in a required Java Program update install and I think Windows just added a couple of critical updates as well. I have tried booting in every way possible, rolling back, safe mode, etc, and nothing works.
I keep getting the screen telling me there is a problem and must do a system repair. Then the repairs and all it wants to do is shut down. I managed to pull up some error reports and it seems two files are corrupt which are TCPIP.SYS and one called FWPKCLNT.SYS.
TCPIP.SYS is located in C:/WIndows/System32/Drivers
FWPKCLNT.SYS seems to be in drive F:/ which is not an actual drive. It must be a temporary boot drive created by Windows 7.
I have an older XP on another partition on the same hard drive so I booted in XP to see if I could possibly delete the reported corrupt TCPIP.SYS file and replace it from another Windows 7 install from my laptop just to see if that might work. But it wont let me delete the TCPIP.SYS file. It says it is in use, but I can't understand that since I am trying to delete it from the Windows 7 partition while I am booted up from the XP boot partition.
Ever since I removed some malware I cannot run a program that is vital to my job. It tries to do a software update (which it does periodically) and encounters this error: "Message 0x1047 in SUBVMCHK Another application is in the process of updating. Please wait while this update completes." I click ok and the program shuts down. I cannot uninstall the program (I get error 1060). Is there a registry key missing? Earliest system restore does not work.

(It stopped working, along with my other printer drivers at the update) I tried shutting off firewall entirely, and turning on read/write permission on the user folder but nothing avails. I even did a system restore but could not go back beyond the first update which is where the problem started I guess. Also the Remove or restore function of the installer shows same error.

My windows 7 computer won let me update any programs or install new programs it will download but when it goes to install a window pops up. Here is what happens when i try to install Firefox, the window that pops up at the top says C:UsersWIN7~1AppDataLocalTemp7zSB882.tmpsetup.exe then below that it says The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. That message pops up when i try to install anything.

When I set up the computer, I set up two profiles - an admin and the user.I need to install a program on the user side, but it won't let me install it. An error comes up and mentions admin privledges. I was logged in at the time as the standard user.I logged in the admin and was able to install it on the admin's desktop...but can't figure out how to install it on the users side. From the admin end, I even switch the user to an admin, but same result. Funny thing is that was I then logged in as the user, it didn't show as being an admin.
