How do I stop Windows 7 (64Bit) from asking "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" i.e. How do I give permanent permission just to specific programs to allow them to run?

When I open my XP mode virtual window and attempt to run a program, I get a message that says "unknown publisher", and talks about digital signature cannot be verified. Is there some way to tell virtual XP that "program X" is ok? In this particular instance, the program involved is a DOS program.I do not get that message when running the same program on a real XP machine.

However, it keeps giving me the message "The publisher of this program couldn't be verified", with options to "Open" the file (which doesn't work because it's an incomplete file; I guess it blocked the download), "Learn more..." which is useless and "Cancel". There's no option to download the file, even though I know I can trust it and it's a file I want.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am building a HTPC and using XBMC to access all my media. I am trying to set it up so that XBMC automatically starts when the PC turns on. I am using Eventghost for this. XBMC has some great wiki's on how to do this, but all of them assume you want XBMC to boot as a shell and not boot explorer. In the future I may want to do this, but right now I am still in the design/set up stage and want explorer to run so I can go back and forth between it and XBMC.My problem is arriving when Eventghost tries to launch XBMC. I need to provide permission for it to run under an admin to make changes to my pc.I want to grant this automatically.I know I can lower my security settings for all programs, but I don't want to do that. I just want to allow XBMC to launch with admin permissions.I already have the "run as administer" box checked.My security is set to high so it still asks me. How can I change this so that XBMC will launch with admin permissions without having to grant it each time yet retain the security settings I have?

Anyway, I have two programs that I want to have open automatically when I boot up, Thunderbird and Maxthon. I have placed their shortcuts into the Startup folder. They do open, but when Maxthon opens, the User Control Box opens asking to allow program to make changes to the computer. This is my mistake in that when I set up Maxthon I inadvertently must have clicked a button that directed a permission OK. But, BTW, Maxthon shortcut->Properties->Advanced button->run as admin NOT checked??? I would like to undo the permission request so that Maxthon will open on boot up without having to do anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop icon for opening CorelPaint Shop Pro Photo XI that has a yellow security sheild on it (not the case for 10 other program shortcuts). Executing the shortcut brings up an "Unknown Publisher" UAC warning. Not a show stopper but annoying as all get out. I have been playing with the Security properties for the shortcut and the exe file to get this to go away but no joy.
Does anyone have a step by step to stop this behavior?
I keep getting a Windows installer pop-up saying that "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue....." I click "Ok," and the pop-up goes away but comes back. I'm not trying to install anything, and I don't know what program may be trying to install or update or whatever it's doing. Is there a way to find out what program it is so I can get it to stop?

When I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.
Ghost Shot> This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing restores from Ghost 15,etc. Anyway, ghost was backing up my system C: drive before last week. I have yet to even try and use Ghost to see if it would successfully restore my OS but I've been using it to backup my C: drive anyways. Prior to last week it could backup my C: drive fine. I might try a Ghost restore point from a few weeks back before this happened but not sure yet[CODE]
A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!
When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.
I have 2 programs on two seperate computers where UAC comes up and asks me if I wish to run the programs. These programs do not require administrator rights (Truecrypt and iSpy) and the check beside "Run program as administrator" is not checked in either the shortcut or the actual executable file.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

Windows Explorer crashes when I try to access files from My Documents, My Music etc. This only seems to be when I access them from the start menu. If I go via My Computer > Users etc all is fine.2. After a short period of gaming, the computer freezes and starts running unbelievably slowly. It is unable to create textures on games and all I can see is characters on a blue screen. I have tried this on Fifa 11 (which now does not run at all), Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Counterstrike: Source. It seems to be fine with browsing and low-end programs though, so I can listen to music and use the internet all fine. All of the games are legally bought etc and worked fine. Kensington said download new "Setup.exe" file when that gave same error, they said not our problem go away. also tried run as admin - same problem!
Lenovo said software is not under warranty it will cost a lot of money to troubleshoot - call microsoft.
Microsoft said this is an OEM product call Lenovo.
