Windows 7 RC1 7100 I'm looking for an easier way to close down six USB devices (USB external backup hard drives) than closing them one at a time in the little 'open devices' menu. Is there a utility or setting to automate the process when logging off or shutting down?

-At work, I want to IGNORE the DHCP address that the wireless network gives me, and force an IP address. Configuring the router to reserve an IP for my MAC is not an option due to a bloated corporate bureaucracy.
Right now, I have to go into control panel and manually configure the network EVERY DAY and while it's not all THAT much work, it's annoying.Is there any way to automate the process?

on Windows 7 machines? I would like to avoid customers from having to do a manual update on hundreds of machines. I was hoping there is some tool that can do that. I go the cab file from the Windows Update Catalog.
After doing a basic install of Windows 7, patch etc, I would like to be able to automate many post-install setup options/preferences and I'm wondering what the best approach to this would be. For example, adding specific toolbars, resizing toolbar and buttons, folder options, etc... all the little things we tweak after we get our system setup. The only thing that comes to mind now is to watch the registry with some software and see where the changes I make get recorded, my fear is that not all of them may be stored there...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI back up my files and system image weekly. I move the recorded TV shows (broadcast TV, nothing illegal) before that from my hard drive onto an external drive. Another drive in the same cabinet does the backup. It saves time and I won't want those files after a disc failure anyway.It would be cool to be able to program the computer to move those files (but not subfolders) over at, say 11.05 pm in preparation for the midnight backup. It would be easier to put the recorded TV in a subfolder though I suppose... then no code would have to be written to ignore subfolders, right?

Several applications fail to close on exit, and I have to manually close them in Task Manager before they will work again. Always happens with Outlook 2007, Google Chrome, sometimes happens with Firefox and Acrobat Reader. Outlook also hangs on the last message in a "send and receive" operation.

When closing an application, the application's service (in the Windows Task Manager) doesn't end with the closing of the application like it should. This is happening with 95% of my applications.
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers,apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.
I've been running RC1 since it became available, and recently I've added 2 other user accounts on my main PC. These 2 accounts seem to have the same problem: neither of them allow you to "x-out" of a window by clicking the red X up in the right hand corner to close the window.

The option is there and I am set to "Do Nothing" but closing the lid shuts off display, network connection, etc. In addition, I would like it to not shut off my network connection when it hibernates as when I log back in after the hibernation, it takes several minutes for the wireless network connectivity to return.

It usually happens when I close a video player to start a new video, or close a browser to open up a fresh collection of tabs (or just to close it because some of the currently open tabs are being buggy) noticed that when I Control-Alt-Delete, the appliactions list is clean, but the program I was running is still listed under "Processes". And sometimes it takes so long to go away I have to force it closed myself. I'm not sure how normal this is, or if it's a sign of an unhealthy computer

The house computers always defaulted to switch user. After I check out I discovered that my lap top did also. I cannot even delete a progam using control panel. I recently received a watermark saying that my windows version was not genuine. (It is) Anyhow, in my scurry to remove the watermark I somehow probably changed a setting that has rendered my Min, max & close buttons useless. I am also not able to drag windows. When I open certain MMC documents, including device manager, I receive a notification stating "Unable to create new document." I have tried restoring my system to no avail. I have done so with my av & firewall down too, as well as from safe mode. I have run multiple virus scans & my system is clean!

EDIT: just found out that the problem is not Facebook, but Firefox. It also keeps me logged in to my mail accounts, even my school account, and i haven't changed any settings in Firefox.
