Oct 20, 2011My Laptop screen turns off when I close the lid also I have edited the power options and the plan settings and I choosed to never turn off the display?

DVD-RW Burnner Turns On And Will Eject And Close
Feb 13, 2011Tonight my desktop stopped working. Up until tonight it was running perfectly as far as I could tell.The only thing that I had noticed about it over the last week or two is the power supply sounded like it was running a little harder/louder than usual and somtimes the noise it made would get louder and then lower and louder and lower sorta like an engine revving up and down but not to an extent that one would raise their eyebrows at it or suspect anything.Tonight I was in the process of visiting the AMD website with the intention of updating the drivers for my video card when the computer rebooted. This process occurred 3 more times over then span of the next 10 minutes..once right after windows had completed bootup and the desktop had loaded, and then 2 more times after bootup and I had logged back onto the Internet.After that final 3rd time I turned the computer off entirely. I clicked the on/off switch on the power supply off and unplugged it. I tried clearing CMOS by resetting the CMOS battery at this time. I then plugged the power supply back in and clicked the on/off switch back on. I go to turn the computer back on and now it will not post. No beebs, no video signal.
I am still getting power to all of the various fans and the DVD-RW burnner turns on and will eject and close. The only thing that I have noticed not working at this time (aside from the lack of post, and ect.) is that the blue light that lights up the on/off button to my mid tower and the hdd light is not working anymore.I have tried reseating everything in the computer twice now but the results are still the same in the computer still won't post anymore.
Computer Turns On But No Display
Feb 18, 2012I have just finshed building my computer and when I turn it on nothing displays on the monitor ! The case fans are running but theres no display. Also I noticed that when I turned it on the CPU fan would spin for a while then stop spin then spin again. I have tried to unplug the CPU fan and replug it back in and it still happens. Is it because of a faulty Mobo?

May 20, 2009I have a ThinkPad T400 and I'm dual-booting Vista and 7 (but I only really use 7). In 7, when you press Windows+P, you get 4 display options: Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend, and Projector Only. Since I just have one laptop screen, I obviously want Computer Only.
But every time I close the lid (or restart), it reverts back to an Extended display, which means when I move the cursor to the right of the screen to use a scrollbar, close a maximized window, or desktop peek, I have to be precise or else the cursor will fly off the right side of the screen into my non-existent extended display.
Any ideas to fix this?
Windows Explorer Closes Whenever Display Turns Off?
Jun 20, 2012Whenever my display turns off, all my windows in explorer closes even when I am moving files. I don't really know how this happened but it is very annoying. Also, my windows explorer crashes like 5 times a day. It says that windows explorer is not responding and I have to wait for it to refresh but there are also times when I can't open it anymore then I'll have to restart my computer.
I have already done a full virus scan and system file checker but there were no threats or errors found.
Shutdown System - Only Display Turns Off But Computer Will Not
Jun 27, 2012Few days ago my rig started acting up when I shut it down after the normal few seconds the display turns off but the computer itself will not shut off. I have run antispyware in safe mode as well as in normal mode also the same with the antivirus too. Even done a system restore back before it started acting up but nothing.

I have followed all the guide lines for disabling sleep mode and it still randomly stops running by turning off the display and powering down. I have to push the power button again and then Windows start up in diagnostic mode where I can select safe mode if I want.

Aug 13, 2012i am able to turn my computer on for a few seconds but then it automatically shuts itself off after a few seconds but the thing is after letting it sit for a couple seconds it says something about how the clocks on my processor have been overclocked too high and asks if it wants me to restore them, so i do that and then the computer works fine, but then when i turn it off and turn it back on it does the exact same thing until i get that message again.i've tried manually reducing the clocks on my cpu even though they were already at stock clocks and that didnt work

Sep 22, 2012Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup.Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays. My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. Several applications fail to close on exit, and I have to manually close them in Task Manager before they will work again. Always happens with Outlook 2007, Google Chrome, sometimes happens with Firefox and Acrobat Reader. Outlook also hangs on the last message in a "send and receive" operation.

Nov 1, 2009Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers,apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.

Sep 9, 2011I have a Windows 7 laptop (Thinkpad T420s), Many times I have tried setting the "Power buttons and lid -> Lid close action" to Hibernate on "On Battery" and "Plugged in" but when I click ok and immediately open the same settings via "Change advanced power settings" I see that my changes are not saved and the settings shows default value "Do nothing".I even tried changing the "Power plan" to Balanced, "Maximum battery life" etc but nowhere I could get this option work.I tried "powercfg /hibernate on" and then doing the above things but that too did not I tried other option also ("Sleep") , but they too did not work and the settings revert to default "Do nothing" everytime.Modifying "Change what closing the lid does" also does not work.Could somebody give me some clue about how do I set it up to Hibernate on "lid close". Right now I have created a shortcut for hibernate and double click on it before closing the lid.

The option is there and I am set to "Do Nothing" but closing the lid shuts off display, network connection, etc. In addition, I would like it to not shut off my network connection when it hibernates as when I log back in after the hibernation, it takes several minutes for the wireless network connectivity to return.

I get black screen.
