View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 Ultimate. I've been using it for some time without problems, but this morning I was unable to get on the Internet. Yesterday I'd installed an update for ZoneAlarm which I thought was probably the problem, so I uninstalled in and downloaded and installed PC Tools Firewall Plus instead. no my computer will connect to the Internet OK, but whenever I try to open most programs, I get the following error:"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."The only two exceptions I've found are Microsoft Security Essentials and Internet Explorer which both work fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe problem I currently have is whenever I open close minimize or maximize a program, be it google chrome or World of Warcraft or even any MS Office program it starts slowly and minimizes slowly. I've been having this problem for about 5 days now and I have no clue how it arose. I am using Windows 7 x64 home premium. I am new to computer stuff with little knowledge of the lingo and processes of how anything really works.Also I found on these forums something that seemed familiar but there was no solution. Whenever I play Starcraft 2 It becomes choppy and slow moving. The start up screen for every game I play is in slowmotion.
I would like to add that browsing the internet and playing some games is perfectly fine after the initial slow moving start up. though it still closes and minimizes slowly.Another thing I would like to add that may be the cause to the problem. Whenever I start up my computer it is super slow. it takes the windows in starting or resuming icon forever to rotate and load.also after the 5-10 minutes I have to wait for it to finally get to the User selection screen. when i do select a user, the program Curse Client ( a program for World of Warcraft addons) doesn't work and gives me this message: An error has occurred while attempting to load a Microsoft .Net configuration file. this is often and indication of a corrupted .net installation. and it goes on to say; We recommend visiting Microsoft download Center to repair your .net installation. would you like to go there now?
I need a program that will close all the non-essential processes and services? Does any know how to do this or a program that will do it? EDIT: Ill rephrase. I only want processes that allow the computer to start and then for me to be able to delete a file that is being used by some unknown process.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been googling and browsing forums for the last several hours and have not found my exact error. The only time I'm getting the error svchost.exe unable to start error 0xc0000142 error is when I'm trying to shutdown and reboot. Windows 7 will force a restart, and after a while will eventually close the error window (x'ing out of it does not work, nor does clicking ok), and reboot, and all seems fine otherwise, but it's beginning to really bug me. I've tried just about all the fixes suggested, and have cleaned and recleaned my registry and run other diagnostics, and everything looks okay.

When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Click on OK to terminate the application.The only option is to click ok. I am deathly afraid to turn off my computer because my brother recently did and that caused it to freeze at the blue HP startup screen, but thats another thread. I get this error whenever I launch anything. I can't even open up the task manager. I really need help. I don't currently have a way to back up my stuff either but I am working on it. By the way, I don't know that my brother was having the same error message as i was or if he was having any error messages. I use zone alarm full security suite if that helps at all, I don't know if it deleted a registry file or something.

Several applications fail to close on exit, and I have to manually close them in Task Manager before they will work again. When closing an application, the application's service (in the Windows Task Manager) doesn't end with the closing of the application like it should. This is happening with 95% of my applications.
Basically, all I want to be able to do is use the [ESC] button to close windows (ie Browsers,apps, games, anything that if selected and when a button is pressed will close it) in windows 7.
I always thought this would be good but is there anyway to make it do that from inside windows without some other software. If there isn't, then what other 3rd party programs can let me do this in Windows.
I have searched, not as heavy as I think i should, but all i keep seeing in Visual Basic and C++ programing, something I'm not good at.
If anyone can help it would be cool. It doesn't have to be [esc] but i would prefer it.
I've been running RC1 since it became available, and recently I've added 2 other user accounts on my main PC. These 2 accounts seem to have the same problem: neither of them allow you to "x-out" of a window by clicking the red X up in the right hand corner to close the window.
