Aug 21, 2011Is it possible to get Win 7 install disk with Sp1? I can't repair install with a slip streamed disk. Does Microsoft have an updated disk?

Windows Update Error / Not Search Or Update / Install Critical Items
Jan 30, 2011I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

Jan 12, 2013My laptop crashed the other day after a Windows update. To make a long story short it would not boot up. I tried several things to no avail. System restore disc did not work. At this point I thought the hard drive was fried. Finally I stuck the the Windows 7 companion disk and got the system to boot I can tell all my files are there somewhere due to amount of memory taking up on the hard drive. Anyways my main problem it is now asking for the product key although I have 29 days which unfortunately I cannot find. Laptop in question is a Lenovo G550. Where do I go from here? Do I have to purchase a new key? I've been using the laptop since and it seems to be working properly as far as i can tell.

Jan 2, 2011I've built a brand new PC and decided that I would like to install windows 7 64 bit on my SSD, I got a disk+key from my university before christmas so that'd i'd be ready once i'd built it.
I built the PC yesterday and realised that I'd left my external DVD drive at my university accommodation, I'm at my parents house for christmas break so that's a few weeks left. I can't really wait that long so I used my parents laptop (which I'm posting from now) to turn the disk into an .iso and use the microsoft USB utility to make a USB stick that i could install from.
However when I tried the install gets to 'installing features' and gives 'windows cannot install required files' error code 0x80070570 I looked the code up on google which sent me to a lot of threads here, so far I've tried:
Taking all but 1 stick of ram out and the graphics card. Reseting the bios to default Installing again without rebooting after error. using cmd to select the right partition

Feb 3, 2013my hard drive was corrupt and I got a new one. Unfortunately I couldnt find my recovery disk and borrowed one from someone for Windows 7. Now my computer is telling me the disk was not meant to create but to update and I need to enter a new product number.

Windows 7 came loaded with the laptop, though I do not know if I have windows 7 basic, premium, pro or else.I went on vacations in July, came back in August and I had a bunch of updates. The knowledge base has several links, I tried all of them. 1 of these knowledge base is about downloading a windows 7 little program called "fixit" but after several attempts, I concluded Fixit cannot solve my issue or is not the proper way to solve my issue.The whole updating package files is roughly around 39 megs and I wonder if Windows 7 actually download the packages every time I click on Update or if Windows stores the updates ready to be installed somewhere on my HDD in which case I would need to re-download the update but I do not know how?

New computer above and my previous computer have Windows Updates for the same file with no KB number. Both computers have tried to install the update numerous times but fail. It says the file is Windows Internet Explorer 9. I get an error code 9C48 for which I find little info The new machine was put together April 11 and shows IE9 being installed on that date and I am already running IE 9.

Dec 19, 2009I'm having a problem with Windows Update. It's managed to install a few updates, bust most of the updates that it automatically finds fail to install (many important ones too - security updates, etc.). A bit frustrating. For the past couple of days, it tries to install the same two updates every time I turn off the computer. The process takes about 40 minutes. Then it shuts off without an error message. Afterwards, when I turn the computer on again, it doesn't say anything but there are once more two updates that need to be installed - the same ones. It's been quite frustrating. For now, I've got the updates turned off, so it won't try to install them any more, but that's only a workaround and no solution.
I think the problem might be connected with some other installations problems. I've tried to download the updates and install them manually, but it didn't work either; first it said that my virus scanner was interfering (I disconnected from the Internet, deactivated the virus scanner, and tried it again, which got a little bit further but not all the way). At the end I got a kind of dubious error message, which I sadly haven't written down, but it was similar to the ones that I got when I tried to install Microsoft Office and also was unable to get the installation to run through to the end. In both instances, the installation was almost done, after which I got a message that there was a problem with some assembly components, and then it undid the changes. This normally took more than an hour - 30 minutes for the installation to get to the point where it started over, an hour to get it to cancel itself. Haven't found a solution there, and that sucks, because I really need it. I've got a lot of files saved in OneNote format that I can't use and need for work.
The Office error messages led me to a couple of forums where it had worked out because people had updated their .NET framework. I can't do that because .NET is part of the OS framework in Windows 7, apparently. Then I read that some other people had just used Windows Update to update their OS, and then it worked. That's what led me to the discovery that my updates weren't working. I believe that that's got something to do with the problem.I've installed some software, but there's the problem with Windows - I can't install it at all. Not sure what to do here. Windows Update lets me look at the update history. I've found that I get the error code 643 for the two updates that have repeated over the past two days again and again. For the other ones it's a little different; they tried to install once and didn't work. For those, I get following code: 80080005.

Jan 15, 2013I had a failed Norton Ghost hard drive transfer recently onto my new internal hard drive, so I got tired of endless troubleshooting, I gave up and just bought a new Windows 7 Home Version 64-bit OS (I had lost my laptop copy) to install from (my laptop had been giving me a "no operating system found" error at bootup, and every option I tried to get it back failed). This disk isn't a burned ISO image - it was bought from Best Buy and is directly from Microsoft.
Tonight, once I installed the new disk and it began to boot from it, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade (which it said required a running OS) or custom install (brand new, where existing files/folders/programs won't be saved). I opted for the custom install. So it started loading windows, and I saw the Windows logo again (finally), but just a minute or two into the installation I got an error message:
"The installation was cancelled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved."
A popup box below that said, "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation." Huh?
I'm thinking maybe if the hard drive is formatted clean the installation might work? But if the necessary files aren't on a full OS disk, where are they supposed to be?! I'd format the hard drive clean if I thought that would work, but I can't find how to get to the command prompt window to do a HD format without a working OS.
upon reboot, instead of me getting the message "operating system not found," it now says "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Crtl+Alt+Del to continue." I haven't gotten that before. And when the installation failed, it never even got to the point where it asked me for my product key. I don't know if that matters or not.
