Altering HP OEM Image Before Firstboot?

Aug 15, 2011

I have a case where the task is to alter 250+ HP laptops with OEM factory image before firstboot. The purpose of this is to be able to use the preinstalled image of Win 7 Pro x64 on the laptops instead of using a generic VLA installation image (don't ask why).

Is there any way to modify the SetupComplete.Cmd or any other pertinent scripts/reg keys that the Windows OEM Preinstallation Kit or sysprep is using or any custom HP firstboot scripts so the bloatware and custom HP settings (except drivers) are not being installed or applied?

Altering Windows 7 Games Statistics?

Oct 3, 2012

My best friend inadvertently reset my statistics for Spider Solitaire; I don't have a perfect score but have played a great many games. I know what the statistics were as of last week, and would like to restore them. In Windows XP, I could edit the Registry, but do not know whether this will work in Windows 7.

BOOTMGR Is Missing After Altering Partitions?

Nov 28, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with windows 7. When I first got the machine I copied some stuff from an old hard drive on to the new one. I created a partition for the old stuff called "old disk". Recently I realised I was hardly using the the second partition so I decided to merge the two. I couldn't do it though. First I shrank the old disk, then I was trying to extend the c drive but it didn't work. I used the windows disc manager and also a third party program. Anyway, long story short when I turned on my computer this morning I saw BOOTMGR is missing, press control+alt+delete to restart. I'm not sure what to do. It looks like that file got misplaced or the partitions got messed up. Windows won't boot. I have no Windows 7 boot disc, there is no repair your computer option in advanced boot options. I have a laptop running Win 7, maybe I could get the right files off it or create a system recovery disc. The trouble is the laptop has no dvd drive.

Sleep Mode Changed Upon Altering BIOS Settings

Sep 18, 2011

my computer was getting too hot i went into the BIOS and changed a few things like turning off the auto-controlled fan sensors, FSB i put down to 200 and the CPU voltage I changed to 1.0Volts. I started up windows again. This time though, the option for "hibernate" had disappeared. So i looked up how to put it back on. and changed the power settings to "never" allow "hybrid sleep". So now i have the option to hibernate again. But the strange part was this. When I put my computer to sleep now. It apparently shuts down fully. (no more blinking light) then i turn it on and it re awakes from sleep. It's actually nice to have it this way. I tested it to see if i could disconnect the power fully and then still restore it back from sleep. Sure enough it lets me disconnect the power for up to 5 seconds then i plug it back in and it will still restore back from sleep. I guess my question is. Is the computer using even less power now to keep the information on the RAM. I read somewhere that on average your computer uses about 6 watts while in sleep mode.

System Image On External Hard Drive Is Not Accessible While Restoring PC From Image

Sep 4, 2011

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

Image Restore Can't Find Backup Image?

Aug 24, 2009

I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

Windows-7 Image Versus Acronis Image?

With either of these two Products, if I create an Image will the Image "include" everything on the Partition? What I'm asking is, in the event I "delete" something from a Partition, and presuming the "deleted" item is not overwritten, will the "deleted" item be part of an Image created AND restorable by Windows or Acronis?

Need An OS Image When Create An Image?

Jun 23, 2011

I am attempting to create a backup image of my Windows 7 OS but when using the native Backup utility I only see a way to create an image with all of my files attached to the image when all I want is just a backup of just the barebones system. I lost my original Windows 7 Install disk so was hoping there was a way to get a copy of the OS since I just recently ordered an SSD. Basically I was hoping to move my OS install over to the SSD while keeping my files on my current HDD intact.

Win 7 Image - No Bootmgr

Jun 11, 2009

I'm having a few issues with images for Windows 7. I've been working with Vista images for the past few years without any problems but following the same procedure with Windows 7 doesn't seem to work for me.

To begin with I install the machine like normal, add in all of the software and then disable the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and sysprep the machine. After I boot using Win PE and capture an image once I try applying it the image fails, saying the the bootmgr is missing.

I can fix this by booting to a windows 7 dvd and run two repairs but would prefer if this didn't happen at all...

Is anyone else running into this issue?

No Image On Boot

Nov 18, 2009

For starters it can't stay on for even a day (it shut downs) and I can't turn it back on. I tried buying a new power supply, a better one, a also better motherboard... didn't work. If someone can help me with that, great, but I can live (barely) with that. My main problem is that the stupid machine now won't even show any image on the monitor when I turn it on. I turn it on, I hear the noise, blablabla, no picture on the monitor. I have Windows7, someone told me it could be the graphics card, someone else told I needed to format it, which I don't want too..

Creating A System Image

When i got my 500 gig internal HD, I messed up and the C: partition is too small. I can't move anything else outta the C partition into the much larger D partition. SO now I want to create a system image on my external HD, so I can re-install Win7 Pro, and not use any partitions. WELL, when i try to create a system image on this external, which sez only needs 396 gig,Windows tell me the external doesn't have enuff space for the shadow volume? There is nothing ON this external. Has 434 of 465 gig free. SO why is that NOT enuff space?
