I have a other internal hard drive, I wanna use to copy my windows image and make it bootable if someone happens to my main drive
I already created window image Back Up & Restore > Create a system image > Put it on my internal hard drive Remove my main drive And it doesn't boot from the backup hard drive?
I would have to to to each system and get all the drivers so that the one image that I will be using as the master image to ghost from should have all the drivers and such from the systems I wish to use for that image. How do I move hardware and software drivers from Windows 7 system to the master image one and install the drivers fro that image to the master system?

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am awaiting delivery (tomorrow I think) of a new custom built PC. I have decided on a 180GB SSD and a 500GB second SATA 111 HD. I store all my data files on an external HD so only put the OS and programs onto the usual "C" drive. The Win 7 OS will be pre installed on the SSD and the only other software i would like to "enjoy" the speed of the SSD is a Video editing prog. A still photo editor and a VM prog so that I can install Win XP with a couple of very old small programs. I need other progs like MS Office 2003 but I only use them very occasionally and would prefer to install them onto the second hard drive. Does this look sensible as I am new to SSD's?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to create a backup image of my Windows 7 OS but when using the native Backup utility I only see a way to create an image with all of my files attached to the image when all I want is just a backup of just the barebones system. I lost my original Windows 7 Install disk so was hoping there was a way to get a copy of the OS since I just recently ordered an SSD. Basically I was hoping to move my OS install over to the SSD while keeping my files on my current HDD intact.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a specific folder in my Win7 installation public? I already have network sharing set-up between my Desktop and my Laptop on my network, but, at the moment, if I want to share something, I have to move it to the Public folder, use it, then delete it from there so that I don't have multiple copies of stuff floating around everywhere. However, I don't want to keep everything on my Window's drive, which means I can't simply move whatever I might be sharing to the Public folder to be used between my Laptop and my Desktop. I'm hoping there's a solution where I can simply share folders that I choose across the network. What I've Tried I've right-clicked on a folder and opened the properties, clicking on the "Sharing" tab. I then went to "Advanced Sharing" and checked off "Share this folder" with the Share name being the folder name, and the path was, by default, set to \ComputerNameFolder. This made it possible for me to see the folder on my Laptop (I shared one from my Desktop, essentially I'm trying to make my Laptop a satellite for my Desktop, which I'll explain at the end) but when I try opening the folder, my Laptop gets the following error message: "\ComputerNameFolder is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this sever to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied". Great. So I go back and click on "Share" in my folder properties, but the only users listed are the ones found on my computer, not over the network. So I click on the "I'm having trouble sharing" link, which brings up the help. The help mentions "Share with" on the right-click shell menu, so I try that and select Homegroup (Read/Write). Now I'm thinking I've finally done it, since I've now specifically specified that this is what I'm trying to do and granted that specific permission. Back on my Laptop I'm looking at \ComputerName and I see the folder there still, I try to open it and, voila, same error message. Now I'm stumped. Why Am I Doing This? I'm doing this mostly because my Desktop is the superior computer. It has better storage, etc... (as it should!) so it's the main computer. My Laptop runs Vista (important to mention!) and I like the fact that some of my programs run independently of the main computer, as it lets me do certain things on various websites simultaneously (nothing fishy mind you), which is great. However, for other things, I would like to just run my Laptop as if it was an extension of my Desktop. For instance, I record videos. I'd like to be able to record them on my Laptop if I so choose, but I want them to be recorded right on my Desktop, since it has the better storage. I also like to write, but I don't want multiple versions of stuff on various computers, though I do want the file on my computer somewhere, as opposed to being stored in the cloud. However, I like the freedom of being able to write wherever I might have my computer on the network, so, once again, I'd like to work directly off of the files from my Desktop. I play a text-based game in which I manage a lot of .txt files with stuff I use for the game, same deal as the writing, I might be playing the game on my Laptop instead of my Desktop and I might need to edit or add to those files, but I don't want to be trying to maintain two different folders of those files. I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture of what I'm looking for.

The original Windows version that the laptop was shipped with was Vista it still has that sticker on it. The guy met us in a parking lot, that should have tipped me off to something, anyway I gave him the money, he gave me the laptop and I thought all was well. He said that he couldn't find the installation disks but would look. The next day when my wife turned on the computer it said that this copy was not legal. To make a long story shorter, the computer works fine other than every time you turn it on it reminds you of the illegal copy. So to make everything legal I purchased a 3 copy family pack of windows home premium. I installed it on my laptop that had Vista but was now wondering if it will let me install on my wife's with the illegal version.

I have considered splitting my HDD partition into 2 so that I can have my own installation and part of the drive. The problem is that if I screw something up, my sister will have a cow (it's the only place where she stores her iTunes, etc. and she's stubborn to use anything else, she wouldn't even accept it on backup). Can I also have 2 of the same OEM copies on each partition? If not, I'm Out of luck.

The problem is that I do not have an external DVD and these machines don't allow booting from USB.
I've managed to get a fresh install onto the drive by installing it onto a partition of the old disk based drive and then copying this over using Norton Ghost. Unfortunately I cannot get this to boot, which I assume is a problem with the MBR.
I have a second machine running Windows 7, and If I mount the SSD using a USB caddy it all seems healthy and is marked as an active partition. Is there any way to get this drive booting without being able to load up the repair functions on the DVD?
If I use Win DVD Maker (WDVDM) to cut a DVD from an .AVI that is wider than 16:9 it plays with the image squashed to fit the 16:9 aspect.Should I use Win Live Move Maker (WLMM) or a third party program to crop the sides or pad the top & bottom of .AVI or other formats, and then WDVDM to cut a disc? Or is there are 'free' third party program that allows me to choose cropping and padding options for extra width .AVI and other formats and encode & burn to DVD in 16:9 or 4:3 ?

The second computer is an iMac (running same OS as HP) cabled to a switch, which is cabled to my home router router. A third computer, a Thinkpad running Windows 7 64 bit Pro (and cabled to the same switch as the iMac), behaves identically to the iMac, so I won't mention it further.I can always RDC from the HP into the iMac, but have problems RDCing from the iMac into the HP. I will get the error "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1)Remote access to the server is not enabled 2)The remote computer is turned off 3)The remote computer is not available on the network"When this error appears, I am unable to ping the HP from the iMac. I am always able to ping the iMac from the HP.The HP is awake when in am trying to connect to it. In fact, both computers are set to never sleep or hibernate so I won't have to wake up a computer to RDC into it. Both computers are set up to allow incoming RDC connections. I have confirmed that the antivirus and Windows firewall settings on the HP and iMac are identical. I have even tried disabling both Windows firewalls, to no effect. Now here's where it gets strange. If I first RDC from the HP into the iMac and then disconnect, I can then ping the HP and RDC to it from the iMac. If I reboot the HP, the problem comes back.
