My machine is making a weird sound and I want to be prepared for the worst before I let a technician touch it.I'm running Windows 7 on my PC and am backing up files to a Microsoft Home Server but want a complete "copy" of my PC system (programs, files, settings, etc.).My head is starting to spin with everthing I've read and heard about cloning and imaging not to mention all the software choices (cloud or external hard drive) and if external hard drive is the way to go, which one.

I am pulling my hair out here as i just can not restore a windows 7 pro image backup to a 128gb SSD.
I have a Samsung f1 1tb drive which has a 48.7gb partition and a 882gig partition. The windows boot drive c is the 48.7gb Partition and the larger one is for storage.
I have used windows 7 pro image clone and make an image of the C: partition of the drive which is 45gb full and have stored it on a usb drive.
Now i have formatted the SSD drive as i have got windows 7 pro on there but there's far far to much work for me to get it back to the way it is on my Samsung drive.
I followed this guide
(URL)
now where it says
In the next screen just click on Next...there are no other partitions in this instance so we don't need to worry about excluding disks.
in the exclude menu i checked to see if the ssd was in there which it was and was unticked.
The restore process will begin. It might take a few hours to restore everything depending on the size of the image and how much data there is. Provided there are no errors and the process completes successfully, your system will restart and the system should be restored.
it says can not find a drive to put the image restore on ?
I have tried disk part and it shows that there are 2 hard drives there one ssd on a sata and the other on a usb with the image on there.
I can not for the life of me get it to put the image clone on the ssd drive.
am i doing something wrong can anyone help.
I have even tried to format the ssd and it still will not work

I am stack at certain process while trying to load a system image onto new hard drive using Windows 7 x64 image restore function from the windows 7 disk, I got my primary drive 500 gigs with windows 7 and all my files,I made a system image onto another clean internal hard drive size 160 gigs and I was successful, now I disconnected my 500 gigs primary hard drive, attached a new 250 gig hard drive and I proceeded to load the system image, I boot to windows 7 cd,I get the option to repair , click on restore from system image file , everything looks good computer finds the hard drive 160 gigs with the system image as source,I press next look for the target drive and I see it there 250 gigs drive thats freshly formatted ..., I select the target press next it all looks good and then I get the screen that there is no target hard drive... I made sure that this hard drive is not being excluded from format and new process... I am lost ... what am I doing wrong here, I reformatted those 2 drives twice I tried this operation about 8 times , I get the error message each time I am attempting to create this new system image..

Is it possible to make a clone / image of a laptop setup with all the work settings etc and run that on a mac instead of osx?I can't just install windows as all the work settings would be lost and the 'IT' department won't support macs. I know it is possible, can anyone point me in the direction of it?

I was wondering if there was anyway to clone or backup a Mac Hard drive from a Windows 7 machine. My friend's Mac got destroyed but managed to save the harddrive and left it with me to back up while he went on vacation.
Unfortunately I've never touched a Mac before and I'm assuming it won't even read the drive if I plug it into my PC since it uses HFS+.
I have with me the following things
- A Windows 7 PC and a Hard Drive Dock
- The 250GB HD from the broken Mac
- A Blank 256GB SSD that he wants to use.
Is there any software on Windows that will let me clone/backup the drive or read from it

I have a hitachi 2tb 5400rpm drive, with my OS installed on a 500GB partition (100gb free). I just got a 1tb samsung spinpoint f3 which i want to use as my boot drive. I have tried 3 methods: 1. Downloaded clonezilla, and used tuxboot to create a bootable flashdrive with clonezilla. I used the i686 image of clonezilla. I made a partition on the samsung drive which is 10GB larger than the boot partition on the hitachi. 2. I used the windows utility to make a back-up image of my bootdrive. I then made a bootable copy of windows 7 live install on a flash drive. Booted off it and tried to restore from that system image. I got an error: The system image restore failed. Error: Error details: The parameter is incorrect.(0x80070057) 3. Same as method 2, but I used a CD instead. This time, i got this error: System image restore to new drive fails. 0x80042414

I cloned my old laptop hard drive to preserve my documents, movies, applications, etc and I now want to decompress the clone onto my new PC hard drive. HOWEVER my new PC already has Windows 7 installed on a second hard drive in the computer, and my laptop clone was cloned with Windows 7 (it was all on 1 hard drive partition). When I decompress the cloned image will I run into any problems with Windows folders on 2 drives, or can I delete the second windows folder?

cloning a hard drive with operating system and all.
Details: I have a couple of tablet pc's (Motion LE1700). One is in perfect shape (1), the other (2) has a physical problem with the USB ports. I have installed and configured W7 on 1. I can't do the same on 2 because I can't connect to it. I would like to make a copy of the hard drive on 1, take the hard drive out, replace it with 2's HD, copy that back, and then replace both drives.
What program do I use to clone the drive, what steps should I take, what should I look out for? The drives are 64G SSD's and I have a 500G external USB HD for the transferring. I don't want to just reinstall everything because it's a PITA, I want to copy the good drive to the other one.

I have been lurking around and posting several threads over the last few weeks regarding how to clone and copy over my windows partitions onto a SSD drive.I feel a little overwhelmed with it all can I just confirm if I can do the following as well? The following is based on me thinking that it might be best to clone the Windows 7 partition first onto the whole drive and then shrink the resulting C partition to define additional partitions for the rest - owing to my dual boot set-up.
1. Align the SSD
2. Make a System Image and create Restore Disk of my C and D Drives.
3. Back-Up the files.Place the SSD into the compartment and power up.
4. Clean Install Windows 7 REM
5. Then apply the System Repair and Install the saved System Image which will identically place the C and D drives on the SSD
6. Then take out partition software and create an ext4 partition for linux (since I have and would like to continue with a dual boot).

With either of these two Products, if I create an Image will the Image "include" everything on the Partition? What I'm asking is, in the event I "delete" something from a Partition, and presuming the "deleted" item is not overwritten, will the "deleted" item be part of an Image created AND restorable by Windows or Acronis?

I built some computers for the local Verizon stores a while back and the guys have pretty much destroyed them. I would like to set up one system and clone the drive so that all four systems are identical. Each system is completely identical to the next as far as hardware goes. Can anyone suggest a high quality program to duplicate the first drive that is simple and quick? Time is very important as the systems cannot be down for to long.

Because my current SSD has been giving me way too many problems mainly with BSODing randomly, and after reading that lots of people have similar reliability problems with the same model, I want to get a new SSD soon. However, I want to save time and just be able to clone exactly what I have onto the new drive.
I've heard that cloning from a HDD to SSD will cause problems. However I am talking about SSD to SSD.
The drive I plan on buying will still use a Sandforce controller, and will be the same capacity. Specifically my current one is the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240gb and I want to get the Kingston 3K HyperX 240gb.
The Kingston SSD I plan on getting should come with software that lets me clone, which I think is the Acronis one. What do I need to do to successfully and seamlessly transition my entire system onto the new SSD?

I got a laptop with tons of data and application, so I have got a bigger hard drive, i dont really want to copy the data over nor reinstall the apps on the new HDD. Therefore can anyone suggest a way to clone the HDD and deploy on to the larger HDD and hopefully pop it in the laptop and off i go..
Now, this laptop is on a company domain so I dont think any cloning tool will put it back on the domain so how does cloning work with domain laptops?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

I have an issue when trying to clone my main drive (a 64Gb SSD) whereby the clone fails shortly after starting with an Error code "Failed to prepare operations code: 10 'file system error is found' with extended code: 458,777 File record corrupt". I am using Acronis but get the same result using other cloning software. The clone partitions the destination disc and then produces the error code when looking/checking the file system. I have narrowed the issue down to the winsxs folder and in particular the files beginning amd64* & x86* by using acronis file back-up facility and attempting to back-up the winsxs file. I have copied the winsxs folder to another drive and can successfully back-up this folder in it's new location using acronis. I should add that checkdsk and SFC do not return any errors on the source files/folder and I have in the past cloned this drive successfully.

right, as some of you may know from reading my wall page my laptop was stolen. now prior to this i had made a system image, i've tried restoring that image to my new desktop system but then it wouldn't boot (apparently due to dissimilar hardware). so i've borrowed my parents laptop (same model as mine was) and restored the clone to that. now apparently there's a way to clone a system to new (different) hardware, can anybody offer me some help with this?

I've wanted to clone a drive. I have just installed a WD20EARX (J:/), but after only a couple of seconds, I get the following Error message: Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 10 'File system error is found' with extended code: 458,774 'Block bitmap corrupted'" module="10" time="1318002352".I've checked out the FAQs and that's not helped.I have also tried using Macrium, but get the message: Clone failed - - VerifyFileSystem failed.I have checked through Device Manager and all appears to be OK in there. Ithe new drive is showing up in there OK, but when I check up in Start > Computer, it's not showing up in there.Anyone any idea what it all means and simple step-by-step instruction of how to get around it. I am using Windows 7 and the new drive, 2TB, is formatted to NTFS

I have tried everything by the book and have no luck. Here's the problem, I have a 4 drive setup:
-60Gb SSD (Windows 7 Ult x64 + some programs) (c)
-30Gb SSD (i)
-1Tb HDD (h)
-250Gb HDD (empty reserved for Win) (f)
As the 60Gb SSD drive is full I want to migrate the whole drive to the empty 250Gb HDD. Of course, no need to say that I want everything to run afterwards without any re-installs (also the files on i and h). I have tried many clone software (Paragon, EaseUS ToDo etc) and the clone goes ok, but it wont boot from the destination drive. Luckily enough I still have the original c drive otherwise I would be stuck! I also looked at the Windows backup and restore, but by default it want to clone all my drives and I cant deselect them (over a Tb of a backup??)
Now what can I do to get this sorted? I just want contents of the 60Gb SSD (with Windows 7) on the empty 250Gb HDD. Also, when cloned, the new drive is not 'c' anymore. How would all programs/files work? Or is the idea that you delete the original drive and then rename the copy to 'c'? I probably do something wrong, but a clean install would take days (as web designer I use loads of software and not looking forward to reinstall all those).

I recently got a new SSD drive that I was interested in turning into my "System Drive" where I just keep all my system files (and some applications that I want to run fast) so that my boot speed is faster. So this is what I did: Downloaded EASEUS Disk Copy Booted it from a USB Copied my System Reserve and System Partition onto my SSD Set my System Reserve on my SSD to Active using Diskpart Changed the boot order to run my SSD first at startup Once I completed all these steps I started up my computer and after my post I get a little white bar "_" that just stays there blinking forever.I have tried changing my SATA controller to AHCI with the same result. (It's on IDE, now)Did disk copy not copy some of the files I need to boot with my SSD? Or did I not copy all the correct partitions?

Referring to this post [URL]. Just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, Paragon should work on your computer when this issue is going on? I installed a new Samsung 830 SSD in my ASUS G74SX last night using Norton Ghost and while the clone worked as far as I can tell. I get the same blue screen and when I manually start explorer the drive letter for the SSD is E: rather than C: I think fixing that would remedy the issue but it won't let me change the drive path with the OS in use.

I have dozend of idendical PCs - same mainboard, vga, HDD, LAN, RAM .. all is the same
instead of installing each PC manuell I setup one PC and use Acronis or Ghost to DNA copy the hard disk sector by sector
for xp64 all is working like a charm - after clone I set IP and PC name and that it
for Windows 7 prof. I do the same but my PC randomly reboot within 3min to 40min
I have
-no hint in event log (expect impropper shutdown)
-stoped most services
-killed all task
-no bluescreen, popup, error message
-"disable reboot on system failur" do not affect
-disabled all onboard hardware bios and disabled non importent devices
-lastest drivers (or factory drivers)
-disable all "energy save" options
-installed all Windows 7 updates and fixes
-Windows 7 boot without problems
-common up to date hardware
only "save mode" is stabil and not reboot (within 12 hour tested)
I install Windows 7 -> plug disk to other PC (new hardware found message about HDD) -> pc permanent reboot randomly within 3 min -> disk back to source PC -> all fine
I have no clue what to do.
