Accessing Xp Share Drops Both Wifi Connections?

Jul 22, 2011

I have an XP pro x32 machine on wireless with shared folders, a 7 Ultimate x64 machine (fresh install) on wireless, and Linksys Wireless/wired router (I'll get the model number later, can't remember). I've had the shares on xp set up for a long time and never had an issue with them on XP or Vista machines. The two machines are on the same router, same subnet, same workgroup (home), individually assigned IPs, and can access the outside fine. 7 does not have a "share group" set up. Whenever I access a shared folder from the 7 machine it connects fine until I start to transfer files. It will make it anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes before the wireless connections on both machines are dropped. The connection problems only happen when copying shared files; I can browse shared folders or internet all I want.Side note that may or may not have any bearing: I had been having an issue where the wireless adapter didn't exist (device manager or anywhere else) after coming back from sleep. That required me to reboot to see it again. I fixed it by disabling the save power feature on the driver and disabling sleep mode.

Accessing Windows Share On Different Subnet

Aug 3, 2012

My Windows 7 machine runs in the subnet 192.168.1.x (actual IP 192.168.1.33) and there is a Linux machine with windows share (smb or Samba) on a different subnet 192.168.2.x (actual IP 192.168.2.5). There is a router inbetween of course. Before they were on the same subnet and I could easily see the Linux machine when using Windows Explorer and clicking on Network. Now, I can't see it anymore.

Laptop Wifi Occasionally Drops?

Sep 9, 2012

When I'm next to the room where the router is, the WiFi connection sometimes just drops. I'd say that I can surf something like 2-3 minutes and then all of sudden the WiFi connection drops, and the WiFi tray icon says that I have a limited connection. Though the signal quality is 4, and sometimes even 5 (which is maximum). And then it takes like 15-20 seconds to get everything back to normal again. But then again.. when I was in the same room as my router, actually on the same desk as the router, I didn't have any problems with WiFi dropping - I think I'll test later tonight again, if there's really a difference if I sit basically next to the router and then when I go to the other room, the connection starts dropping every once in a while (and remember, I still have an excellent signal quality). And I'll add just in case that I haven't had any problems with wired connection. And in our household we've got one laptop more, and this one hasn't had any problems with WiFi dropping. So.. it must be something with my laptop.. I guess.

- WiFi network card: Atheros Communications AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter

According to device manager:
Driver date: 3.10.2011
Driver version: 9.2.0.458

- Second network card (for wired connection, I guess): Attansic (Now owned by Atheros) AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet

According to device manager:
Driver date: 16.01.2012
Driver version: 2.0.12.13

- OS: Windows 7 64 bit

- Router: SpeedTouch 780WL - Software release: 7.4.4.7

- Anti-virus: McAfee Internet Security | Can't tell you the exact version, because it has different versions for different things. For example SecurityCenter has v11.0 and VirusScan has v15.0. Just to add that I've heard that some people have had problems with WiFi, and it has been anti-virus' fault. Well.. I'm not planning to keep McAfee, I'll get rid of it soon. But I think it might help if I mention the anti-virus program too.

May 2, 2011

My girlfirends new PC has Windows 7 64-bit on it, now getting on the internet is a real headache! every time I click the network list at the bottom, and select the network I want, it will connect but if I make it show the the list of networks again it will loose the network. When it does connect after a while it might drop off then trying to reconnect come up with "the settings do not match" I have to change them, then change back to get it to connect again but if I keep an eye on it while it connects it fails.

Windows 7 Home 64-bit
Disabled the IPv6 setting
I tried the wifi client that comes with the wifi card
I tried changing the router settings
It's WPA2 security

WiFi Connection Occasionally Drops / Only Re-connect When Restart Router

Jul 1, 2012

Generally once or twice a day, my computer will suddenly drop its internet connection. It will then start an endless loop of trying to connect: Sensing the network is there Trying to connect (With the loading symbol and "Initializing")Appearing to connect successfully (but when I try an open a web page, nothing loads, and I receive an error message telling me there's no connection)A few seconds later, the yellow triangular warning sign appears next to the wireless bar.A few seconds after that, it drops the connection, and then starts over at step oneA few seconds later, it will start again at step one.The only way I am able to get the network back on is to: Disconnect manually (press "disconnect")Turn of my wireless antenna on my computer Turn on and off my router Turn back on the antenna Reconnect.I have to do these 5 steps every time it disconnects. This is only happening on this one computer - other computers on the network aren't experiencing the problem (running XP and Win 7).I have an Asus U56E-BAL7.

I have a red X over the wifi icon. it says "not connected - No connections available". i have done all i know to do and sat on hold with dell tech support for over an hour. I always pick up 4 -8 other networks around me too, which is weird that it says none are available. I am on my desktop now, and internet is working fine. reset the router and restarted several times. Using Multiple WiFi Connections Synchronously Beneficial?

Feb 14, 2012

I currently have one default WiFi connection (the card built into my Asus G74sx), but I also have another external USB WiFi adapter, a Hawking dish. I can use both separately, but I've noticed that I am often connected to my network by both at the same time. I was wondering if this has any sort of benefit: as in, does it improve speed/connection reliability/etc? Or is it the same as just having one connected?

Mouse Skips, Computer Freezes Up Repeatedly When Accessing Wifi?

running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit here. I don't know if this is due to my wifi adapter or the connection or what. I use a wireless connection here, provided by the place we live, the signal is very weak on my desktop. At times when connect to it, it doesn't even load a webpage, but what happens is my mouse skips across the screen, buzzing comes outta my speakers just as the mouse skips, it's like having interference somehow and I just don't get how connecting to the wifi does this, the wifi is really weak, I don't even know why I can't connect, I mean the signal is there, I can connect, but it doesn't load a webpage.

Share A Folder Via WiFi On Windows 7?

May 22, 2011

how to do this on Windows Vista/Windows 7. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to stream some of my video files from a PC to my iPad. I can do this using a third party app that runs on my iPad that can connect to a computer via a WiFi network. I managed to do this quite easily on Windows XP and I can stream AVI files from the "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocuments" folder. All I did is this -- I right-clicked on the Documents folder there and selected Properties, then Sharing tab and set "Share this folder on the network", named it and OK'ed it. After that I can easily see that folder from the app running on my iPad and stream files out of it.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 aren't as easy to set up and they don't have the same controls as Windows XP.

BSOD On Startup / Accessing New HD / Accessing Internet?

Feb 17, 2012

I'm running on a relatively new install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I recently (about 2-3 weeks ago) installed a new HD and decided to have a fresh start so everything was formatted followed by win 7 install. Everything has been running great up until mid day yesterday. Out of what seems like nowhere I experienced 6 or 7 BSOD's yesterday and from what I could tell they occurred when I tried to do any of the following: 1. Access drive D and play a video file (This is the new HD, it would instantly BSOD). 2. Access internet within 1 minute of startup.

Since yesterday I haven't had any BSOD's and have had the computer running, I haven't tried to play any videos off of HD and haven't reset my computer since (hoping that whatever it was has gone away, although I'm sure it hasn't). For the record I have accessed some music files on drive D without any issue, as well as several word and excel documents (not sure if that makes any difference?)I have a feeling it may have something to do with my new HD that I installed, but have no idea what it could be as it was running without issue up until yesterday (for at least 2 if not 3 weeks).

My system specs are as follows:S: Windows 7 64bit UltimateManufacturer BIOSTAR Group Model A740G M2+ Total amount of system memory 6.00 GB RAMSystem type 64-bit operating system umber of processor cores 2 isk partition (C) 272 GB Free (298 GB Total) isk partition (D) 1630 GB Free (1863 GB Total) isplay adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 other info:-all drivers should be up to date to the best of my knowledge- i've looked around and have seen a lot of recommendations to run memtest? I have yet to do soI've enclosed a system health report and minidump file as outlined on forum requirements.

Random Network Drops

Jul 6, 2009

I have been searching these forums myself for a possible solution to my random network drops when i'm using my full bandwidth and have noticed that several of you have the same if not similar problems.

When using the troubleshooter the end result is always that my card has lost its default gateway yet is easily fixed.

The drops would only happen during times when i was maxing out my bandwidth and once fixed would either never happen till the next day or within 5 minutes.

I seem to have stumbled upon a possible fix, it certainly seems to have cured my problems so I thought i'd pass it on to you people here as these forums have been extremely helpful with the little tweaks and bugs in Windows 7

Just wanted to drop a quick message to all of those people who are upgrading to Windows 7 RC from Windows Vista. If you find that your network connection drops and it states that your "Default Gateway was unavailable" when you run the fix this issue tool, then its more than likely that your network card is at fault. I found the best fix for this was to delete the network card from Device Manager, restart the machine and hey presto it stops dropping.

You'll find it tends to drop when you attempt a high bandwidth activity like streaming media from websites. It was very annoying but fortunately deleting the NIC seemed to resolve it.

Just wanted to pass it on!

My motherboard has an Nvidia nForce 6 series chipset and an Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet onboard port (times two)

The source for this tip is Network Connections Drop Periodically in Windows 7 after Upgrading from Windows Vista. And like i said two days running no internet drop, so i hope this helps you guys out like it has me

Upload Speed Drops To Zero?

Aug 16, 2011

The speed test on my 2 Windows7 machines (PC and netbook) have recently started to show a fine download speed but when measuring upload speed the dial moves up to 400 and then gradually sinks back to zero over the next couple of minutes. It doesn't register any final upload speed. I can upload files to emails up to roughly 200kb but nothing any larger. However my old laptop with XP has none of these problems. Hard wiring makes no difference and it's not the router, because the XP machine works fine with the same router that uses the Windows7 PC.I've uninstalled Adobe Flash and re-installed it for the Windows7 machine. No change.

Frame Rate Drops

Feb 5, 2010

My main problem is that When I switched over to Win 7 my frame rate drop over half when I play WOW. I have tried several different drivers.Tweak force, Nivida Beta and current released, plus an older one that is in Win 7. Just cant get it to go up. I switch back to XP(on separate drive) and its back to the high frame rate.

I am looking for several things. 1st what is causing the problem, Can I correct with what I have? If I need to replace parts, what should I replace and with what. I think my video card is ok. I use the system for WOW, Unreal Tourment 3, and the age of Empire series. Plus Digi Photography. I mainly play WOW. I like Nivida and AMD.

I have read it could be driver related or not enough CPU power and mem. WOW is a hog on the resources I am told.

Internet Connection Drops Intermittently

Sep 11, 2011

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and I just reformatted and reinstalled a couple weeks ago. I did this because I was messing around with Linux and removed the partition in the wrong drive...sigh. So anyway, Windows 7 was running rock solid prior to this....no problems whatsoever with anything. So after I reinstall Windows I notice my Internet connection drops once in a while. Some days it doesn't do it at all while others it drops multiple times. It's all up to date too. There are two things different in this install though. The first is I updated my BIOS. I did this because I suddenly couldn't access the BIOS or even use F8 on boot up. The second thing is after you install, Windows wants to update my Atheros (I believe it's called) adapter. I didn't do this with the first install because it was working fine. Ok, so there are the two differences. Do you guys think it's the adapter driver or the BIOS update? [code]

External Hard Drive Drops Out?

I have a 2TB Seagate hard drive that keeps dropping out in Windows 7. I use it as my main backup drive and when writing to it using either of the two backup apps I use the drive usually "disconnects" and I have to switch it off and on again to use it.I've tried using a different USB port and a different USB cable - same thing. I have run Windows 7 error-checking checking which reports no errors. When it disconnects, device manager shows that it is still connected and working but it definitely doesn't work. For instance, I can double click and open it but it shows no folders. Switching it off and then on fixes this but only temporarily.
