View 2 RepliesThe speed test on my 2 Windows7 machines (PC and netbook) have recently started to show a fine download speed but when measuring upload speed the dial moves up to 400 and then gradually sinks back to zero over the next couple of minutes. It doesn't register any final upload speed. I can upload files to emails up to roughly 200kb but nothing any larger. However my old laptop with XP has none of these problems. Hard wiring makes no difference and it's not the router, because the XP machine works fine with the same router that uses the Windows7 PC.I've uninstalled Adobe Flash and re-installed it for the Windows7 machine. No change.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the speed of my mapped network drive. At first al is wel and file loading is as fast as to be expected. But after some time the transfer speed drops dramaticaly and it becomes very slow. I tested it primaraly with loading of image sequences, but it affects all file loading the same. If I logoff and login to windows again the speed is back to its full potential. And then after some time again it drops. I have seached the internet for similar ploblems, but could not find this kind of problem, only the dropping of the connection entirely, but thats not the case here.
All user PC's that have the network drive mapped are windows7 Pro PC's with gigabit lan. The server PC is also windows7 with quad gigabit lan, teamed to 1 connection. A 4 ssd raid setup via a MSI megaRaid controller provides the drive for mapping. The switch is a HP proCurve 1810G-24. Jumbo frames is disabled on all devices. Because i have no domain, the password protection for file sharing on the server is disabled, so al user PC's can connect to the mapped network drive with their own username.
Is there some sort of idle timer on the mapped network drive that could be responsible or something?
I just want to be able to increase the speed of my fans beyond their spec, and have complete manual control over their RPMs without a care about the temps. I have a liquid cooling setup and the fans on my radiator as they are right now simply aren't cutting it. I have them hooked up to the motherboard in hopes of finding something to just boost their speed via software, but SpeedFan is the only thing I could find and it simply sucks for that purpose.

i upgraded my graphics card from a geforce 9500 gt to a geforce gtx 550 ti. i can be on my computer for several hours (4-8) with no problem at all then all of a sudden i get a major fps drop making games unplayable and streaming media such as netflix lag, while also making my browser to lag big time while watching videos. i haven't had this issue with any other streaming media such as Internet, it almost feels like the problem occurs while watching netflix then sometimes ill open a new tab to check facebook or multitask and then notice a major lag spike.i got into habbit of noticing this, closing netflix opening a game like dead space 2 and seeing how ridiculous my fps has dropped. a simple restart will solve this (temporarily) which then several hours later the problem comes back.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been searching these forums myself for a possible solution to my random network drops when i'm using my full bandwidth and have noticed that several of you have the same if not similar problems.
When using the troubleshooter the end result is always that my card has lost its default gateway yet is easily fixed.
The drops would only happen during times when i was maxing out my bandwidth and once fixed would either never happen till the next day or within 5 minutes.
I seem to have stumbled upon a possible fix, it certainly seems to have cured my problems so I thought i'd pass it on to you people here as these forums have been extremely helpful with the little tweaks and bugs in Windows 7
Just wanted to drop a quick message to all of those people who are upgrading to Windows 7 RC from Windows Vista. If you find that your network connection drops and it states that your "Default Gateway was unavailable" when you run the fix this issue tool, then its more than likely that your network card is at fault. I found the best fix for this was to delete the network card from Device Manager, restart the machine and hey presto it stops dropping.
You'll find it tends to drop when you attempt a high bandwidth activity like streaming media from websites. It was very annoying but fortunately deleting the NIC seemed to resolve it.
Just wanted to pass it on!

My main problem is that When I switched over to Win 7 my frame rate drop over half when I play WOW. I have tried several different drivers.Tweak force, Nivida Beta and current released, plus an older one that is in Win 7. Just cant get it to go up. I switch back to XP(on separate drive) and its back to the high frame rate.
I am looking for several things. 1st what is causing the problem, Can I correct with what I have? If I need to replace parts, what should I replace and with what. I think my video card is ok. I use the system for WOW, Unreal Tourment 3, and the age of Empire series. Plus Digi Photography. I mainly play WOW. I like Nivida and AMD.
I have read it could be driver related or not enough CPU power and mem. WOW is a hog on the resources I am told.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and I just reformatted and reinstalled a couple weeks ago. I did this because I was messing around with Linux and removed the partition in the wrong drive...sigh. So anyway, Windows 7 was running rock solid prior to this....no problems whatsoever with anything. So after I reinstall Windows I notice my Internet connection drops once in a while. Some days it doesn't do it at all while others it drops multiple times. It's all up to date too. There are two things different in this install though. The first is I updated my BIOS. I did this because I suddenly couldn't access the BIOS or even use F8 on boot up. The second thing is after you install, Windows wants to update my Atheros (I believe it's called) adapter. I didn't do this with the first install because it was working fine. Ok, so there are the two differences. Do you guys think it's the adapter driver or the BIOS update? [code]

I use it as my main backup drive and when writing to it using either of the two backup apps I use the drive usually "disconnects" and I have to switch it off and on again to use it.I've tried using a different USB port and a different USB cable - same thing. I have run Windows 7 error-checking checking which reports no errors. When it disconnects, device manager shows that it is still connected and working but it definitely doesn't work. For instance, I can double click and open it but it shows no folders. Switching it off and then on fixes this but only temporarily.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm next to the room where the router is, the WiFi connection sometimes just drops. I'd say that I can surf something like 2-3 minutes and then all of sudden the WiFi connection drops, and the WiFi tray icon says that I have a limited connection. Though the signal quality is 4, and sometimes even 5 (which is maximum). And then it takes like 15-20 seconds to get everything back to normal again. But then again.. when I was in the same room as my router, actually on the same desk as the router, I didn't have any problems with WiFi dropping - I think I'll test later tonight again, if there's really a difference if I sit basically next to the router and then when I go to the other room, the connection starts dropping every once in a while (and remember, I still have an excellent signal quality). And I'll add just in case that I haven't had any problems with wired connection. And in our household we've got one laptop more, and this one hasn't had any problems with WiFi dropping. So.. it must be something with my laptop.. I guess.
- WiFi network card: Atheros Communications AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter
According to device manager:
Driver date: 3.10.2011
Driver version: 9.2.0.458
- Second network card (for wired connection, I guess): Attansic (Now owned by Atheros) AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet
According to device manager:
Driver date: 16.01.2012
Driver version: 2.0.12.13
- OS: Windows 7 64 bit
- Router: SpeedTouch 780WL - Software release: 7.4.4.7
- Anti-virus: McAfee Internet Security | Can't tell you the exact version, because it has different versions for different things. For example SecurityCenter has v11.0 and VirusScan has v15.0. Just to add that I've heard that some people have had problems with WiFi, and it has been anti-virus' fault. Well.. I'm not planning to keep McAfee, I'll get rid of it soon. But I think it might help if I mention the anti-virus program too.
I've been having this problem since I bought this new computer a few weeks ago. It's a HP desktop, the model number is s5229uk and it's Windows 7 Home Premium.
At random times when I'm browsing the internet, sometimes it can be every 10/15 minutes, sometimes just a few times a day it will stop loading and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark will appear on the connection icon in the bottom right hand corner.
I cannot troubleshoot the problems or open up the network and sharing centre because it either doesn't load at all or freezes, and the only way to reconnect is to hold down the power button as shutting down or restarting fails after about 20 minutes of the shutting down screen.
It's more annoying than anything. I've checked for viruses but nothing came up and the one time it's let me troubleshoot, it's told me to reset the router which I did and it didn't work. I thought it might be a compatibility issue with the router (we use Sky) but some days it works for longer than others.
On the Norton internet history for firewalls and connections I found this which I think might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas how to stop the internet from cutting off because me and my Dad are at a loss, and he's quite good at computers.
Another thing is that it won't let me create a system image by backing it up onto an external hard drive, it gets to a certain point and gives me this message: 'The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002) I've tried again and it still doesn't work.
Recently, I have reinstalled my OS Windows 7 due to Windows freezing on Welcome screen. Why it was freezing on Welcome screen I don't know, but I have already fixed this problem, so this isn't my main problem. I want to note that before reinstalling Windows all my games were running perfectly and smoothly without lagging or freezing. But now, when my OS is reinstalled, games run improperly and with lags. Yes, this problem isn't weird at all, but the strangest thing is that I can make games run smooth and without lags, BUT NOT PERMANENTLY! Let's say that I want to play Sniper Elite V2. I turn on my PC, start Sniper Elite V2 and doesn't matter on, which settings or resolution I'm playing, it still lags. Okay, I exit from the game and go to this game's shortcut properties, then I check the box and set the compatibility mode for Windows XP ( Service Pack 3 ) and start the game one more time. The game runs smoothly, without lags on maximum settings and resolution! The problem solved and everything will be fine... NOT AT ALL! I turn off or restart my PC and start Sniper Elite V2 again. Bump! The game heavily lags and no matter, which resolution or settings I set, it still lags and runs improperly. Then I go to game's shortcut properties again and uncheck the compatibility mode box. I start the game and it is running smoothly, without lags on maximum resolution again. I restart or turn off my PC, start the game and it lags again! This problem is like a tale without the ending! Now, let's say that I want to play TES V: Skyrim. I start the game and it lags like all other my games. Compatibility mode method doesn't work on TES V : Skyrim, so when the game is running I press Alt+Tab and start Task Manager. Then I go to the Processes tab and then find the game process. I set the priority of this game to low and get back to the game. It doesn't lag on maximum settings. Okay, then I want to play this game instantly without lagging, so I find the code which lets me to run the game with low priority instantly ( %comspec% /c start /low AppName.exe ). I do the thing which I needed to run a game in a low priority and then start a game. Bump again! It heavily lags! While running TES V : Skyrim game, I Alt+Tab and start Task Manager, then I go to processes and see that the game is running on a low priority, but still lags. So, I change the game's priority from Low to Normal and get back to the game. IT DOESN'T LAG AND THERE IS NO FPS DROP! Yes, it is a strange thing... But that's not all. I know a method which allows me to play games without lags or FPS drops. I go to Msconfig > Boot > Advanced options and check the maximum memory box. This allows me to play all my games without lag or FPS drop, except The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim ( but it isn't very important that I can't play TES V : Skyrim without lag with this method ). I can play my games without lag after PC restart or startup, when the maximum memory box is checked. Yes, but then appears other weird problem. When the maximum memory box in the msconfig is checked, I go to the My Computer properties and see that there is a problem with my RAM. Total installed memory is 4.00 GB, but only just 3.46 GB are usable!
1. Why I can't play games normal, like I played when I had previous Windows 7 OS? ( Note that on previous Windows 7 most of my PC games were running smoothly and without lags on maximum settings and resolution )
2. Why, when the maximum memory box in Msconfig is checked, my PC uses not all installed RAM (3.46 GB) ? ( Note that, when the maximum memory box in Msconfig is unchecked, my PC uses all installed RAM [4.00 GB] )
3. Is it possible to fix these problems? (Play games without lags, like I did on my previous Windows 7 OS [or] play the games without lags when the maximum memory box in msconfig is checked and make (force) my PC use all my installed 4.00 GB RAM (Not 3.46 GB!).
My computer specifications:

I thought at first my internet connection had been lost, but i couldnt' connect to the router SO i tried my laptop, and it connected fine to the router. And the internet was working.
Now, about once an hour, this happens. It is only fixable by disabling, then reenabling the ethernet adaptor itself. The adaptor simply stops transmitting and receiving, randomly for no reason.
I have an nvidia EVGA 680i SLI (nvidia) board, it has 2 on board 10/100/1000 ethernet ports. I have tried uninstalling them (with deleting the driver) and then reinstalling them, no such luck.
Worked perfectly in build 7077, but in the release candidate, i'm getting this recurring problem.
The problem, to reitterate, is not with the router, or with my internet connect. I'm saying that to stem the expected tide of "trun off your router, leave it for 30 seconds, turn it back on again" type responses
If anyone can help me, i would really appreciate that.
BTW< i have the latest drivers for my motherboard and so on. I have tried both WITH and WITHOUT the nvidia network manager. (network manager was incompatible with Vuze, and didn't solve the disconnects problem anyway).

I use media centre for playing everything but I find that in the middle of a video/mp3 file media centre freezes and I have found that the network has dropped its connection. I had this problem with ALL of the builds but with build 7000 & 7048 updating the network card drivers to the latest fixed the issue. Now it doesnt matter what I try from build 7057 up it randomly does it. The OS does not freeze but what ever media centre is doing it takes so many resorces that everything takes about half an hour to respond so I end up switching it off.
This has been the case on the 32 bit builds also. I dont know what microsoft are doing with the network but it is really getting annoying.
Any ideas anyone?
I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but for the past few weeks, I've been experiencing constant connection drops(I've concluded it that it's the router because both the modem (sb6120) and the router shows the amount of time it's been up) and everytime the connection drops, the router would show that it had just rebooted. Should I reset all my router configurations or is it something else that is the problem?

Anytime I am watching a movie when the audio gets to a low level in the movie it drops out completely and goes to complete silence. It's really annoying because you lose the background ambience of the movie. Occassionally soft music will be playing in the background or birds chirping and then the sound goes to complete silence until someone starts to talk or a loud noise is made. This is not an issue with a certain movie file, it will happen with any movie. Even stuff I have recorded from TV using windows media center. I also don't think it is the player (I use media center a lot) because I have played the files in other players such as windows media player and KM player and the same thing happens.

I've got a bit of a problem here....randomly, the sound volume for my programs will drop (e.g. my music player, any games i am running, etc).
No actual change in the windows volume control, or any volume control is done....the sound output just drops. Only way to fix it seems to be to restart the affected programs (e.g. my music player).
There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it, it just happens randomly.
So I went to my event viewer, and this is what it says whenever it's happened the last couple of times:

And I went back through older logs of when the same thing would happen, and those two were the ones that popped up the most. However, this also popped up from time to time:

I have an XP pro x32 machine on wireless with shared folders, a 7 Ultimate x64 machine (fresh install) on wireless, and Linksys Wireless/wired router (I'll get the model number later, can't remember). I've had the shares on xp set up for a long time and never had an issue with them on XP or Vista machines. The two machines are on the same router, same subnet, same workgroup (home), individually assigned IPs, and can access the outside fine. 7 does not have a "share group" set up. Whenever I access a shared folder from the 7 machine it connects fine until I start to transfer files. It will make it anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes before the wireless connections on both machines are dropped. The connection problems only happen when copying shared files; I can browse shared folders or internet all I want.Side note that may or may not have any bearing: I had been having an issue where the wireless adapter didn't exist (device manager or anywhere else) after coming back from sleep. That required me to reboot to see it again. I fixed it by disabling the save power feature on the driver and disabling sleep mode.
