[Networking] Can't Get USB Dongle To Share Wifi With Router?
Aug 13, 2012
On Windows XP my USB dongle would always share it's wifi connection with my home WRT-54G WiFi Router. It was simple and all it took was a little wizard to set it up and give my router an IP address from my computer. In windows 7 I cant find out how to do it.the internet sharing option doesn't work correctly. it's not giving my router an IP address.

I'm switching from landline ISP to mobile ISP (dongle). So I'm thinking of sharing 3G dongle (ZTE MF190) internet connection with other PC, device etc, through D-Link modem+router(DSL-2640B) that I use for landline internet connection before. Is this possible? I notice that I cannot use homegroup via D-Link anymore after connecting to 3G dongle. I've tried ICS (internet connection sharing) but to no avail.

just recently upgraded from XP and I have this issue that is really annoying me.
I have like 4 onboard RJ45 LAN network ports on my motherboard and so far I can only share the second one with internet and file sharing but it I cannot enable the 3rd and 4th port, because the internet sharing only allows me to select one connection only.
As seen in this image I can only select one, under "Home network connection" this option did not even exist in Windows Vista.
Is there a way I can share my internet and file sharing with port 3 and 4 as well?

I connect with a broadband dongle. Sometimes it's disconnecting me after a couple of minutes - other times I'm OK for a couple of hours. No problem getting back on-line - only takes a minute, but it's damned annoying.I contacted the ISP (Indian call centre) and they were of no help. Said they could see the frequent disconnections but that there was no breaks in their service.

I have been struggling to figure out a way to network my Windows XP Professional (wired desktop) with my Windows 7 (wireless laptop).
I have already gone back through the 16 pages of this forum, and tried the suggestions for Is there a way to file share with XP?, Netorking between 7 and xp;Cant get it right, Win7 Wireless PC Doesnt See Wired XP on Network, cant see xp machine under win7, and even XP to 7 Printer sharing and can see printer from xp but not 7, but to no avail. Or at least, I am not doing it right.
I've been trying to work with a 'home' network on Windows 7, and with firewalls down on both PCs. I do not have a homegroup setup on my Windows 7 box. Both OSs are fully patched. I shared my "Desktop folder" with everyone. When I open up the group "Workgroup" on my XP machine, I can see my Windows 7 computer and my XP computer, but I cannot access it. I get this message instead:

I cannot see my XP on my Windows 7. Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder was already on my XP machine (tried to DL it from the link and install, but my PC told me I already had a more recent version of it), I've set up advanced sharing and disabled password sharing on Windows 7, I've enabled "Microsoft network client: Send unencrypted password to third-party SMB servers", and enabled all sorts of virtual access to my Windows 7 and XP. Nothing has worked.
Can someone help me out?
I am not ashamed to admit that if I have to be walked through it from the beginning, I'll take it. I just want to be able to pull files from my Desktop to my Laptop, and vice versa.

I will be buying a new computer (64 bit). I currently run a 3.5 year old Dell (32 bit) with XP Pro and connect wirelessly with a DLINK router and adapter (DLINK DWA 130 Rev C) which is an N router, which replaced a G level router about 4 months ago. Would it be possible to download a driver that will work on the new machine now, or should I bite the bullet and add an adapter to the new computer? I emailed DLINK and have had no response.

I am trying to figure out how to network my laptop with my desktop. I have a Qwest DSL Wifi router. My desktop computer is hooked up to a Vonage device/router and then the Vonage device is connected to the DSL router. My laptop is connected to the Qwest router by Wifi. Also, the deskop and Vonage device are setup with a static IP. Is there any way to network between my desktop and laptop so I can do file sharing?

I recently purchased a new routeur, D-Link's DIR-825. I am quite happy with it's performance so far, the main reason I bought this model was that it has a USB port so that I could use a HDD as a network.I installed the "Shareport" utility provided by D-Link and yesterday I finally got around to plug my HDD into the routeur. Things went smoothly and I was able to "connect" to the drive from my home computer.I then turn on my laptop, which is my work computer, and tried to connect to the drive. Shareport told me that it was already connected and needed to be disconnected.I mean the whole idea behind me buying a routeur with a USB port was to have a hard drive that would serve as a network backup that could be accessed by both computers at any given time.Besides, if only one computer can be connected to it at a time that's not what I call sharing, the "Shareport" utility should have a different name then. Now is that inherent to this type of setup or is it simply a show of the software limited capabilities?

I have a question about sharing my Internet. Ok my internet provider sends me some analogue signals, my modems gets them, converts them to digital signals and then, sends this Connection to where it should go (I mean I can use this connection using e.g. wifi). I have a vpn connection. I wanna use it on my mobile. My mobile doesn't support vpn configuration. So somehow I should send the vpn connection from my pc and modem. How can I share the internet I am using in my pc using my WiFi modem?

how to do this on Windows Vista/Windows 7. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to stream some of my video files from a PC to my iPad. I can do this using a third party app that runs on my iPad that can connect to a computer via a WiFi network. I managed to do this quite easily on Windows XP and I can stream AVI files from the "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocuments" folder. All I did is this -- I right-clicked on the Documents folder there and selected Properties, then Sharing tab and set "Share this folder on the network", named it and OK'ed it. After that I can easily see that folder from the app running on my iPad and stream files out of it.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 aren't as easy to set up and they don't have the same controls as Windows XP.

I have an XP pro x32 machine on wireless with shared folders, a 7 Ultimate x64 machine (fresh install) on wireless, and Linksys Wireless/wired router (I'll get the model number later, can't remember). I've had the shares on xp set up for a long time and never had an issue with them on XP or Vista machines. The two machines are on the same router, same subnet, same workgroup (home), individually assigned IPs, and can access the outside fine. 7 does not have a "share group" set up. Whenever I access a shared folder from the 7 machine it connects fine until I start to transfer files. It will make it anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes before the wireless connections on both machines are dropped. The connection problems only happen when copying shared files; I can browse shared folders or internet all I want.Side note that may or may not have any bearing: I had been having an issue where the wireless adapter didn't exist (device manager or anywhere else) after coming back from sleep. That required me to reboot to see it again. I fixed it by disabling the save power feature on the driver and disabling sleep mode.
