7057 Auto-login Disabled?
Mar 25, 2009
In 7057, I cannot switch on the autologin anymore. It was previously switched on using the command control userpasswords2 followd by selecting the auto login option. However, the command doesn't show me this window anymore.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma, and I can't necessarily work around this. On most of my systems, I have two users. One of them is the user, and the other is anadministrative account that I never login to unless I absolutely have to. I've also done the same on some PC's I've worked on for friends, etc. So yes, each UAC prompt asks me for a password of my administrator account. And that doesn't bother me .Now, here's the thing where I'm going. I want to be able to start up a system and not see the administrative account. At all. Meaning, I'm logging into my user. But, I don't want to login automatically. I'm trying to avoid that heavily as I got others in my household who absolutely love to use my computers.Basically, I want to see the welcome screen and just see my username so I can login, and have a 'switch users' option. That would be useful! I've already checked through the policy editors to see what I can do, but perhaps I'm not seeing the correct options?

My university has an application that students must run it to do test (midterm, final,...). It really annoy to all students. It will close all file it can close on computer. (system file too...). So, users must turn account control to default level so... this app cannot auto close it.I don't know this before. My account control is lowest level. So, when run this app, it will automatically restart. (because some system file has been closed). After twice times, I login at meet that error : No matter how I login, Windows appear Welcome, and logoff permantly after. When I create another account and set account control to default level, I can run this app and can logon. But I still want to use old account.

I need to have a login name with a password and admin permissions but don't want to disturb the usual user by forcing a choice of logins where before her PC just opened for her automatically.I do a bit of support for some U3A folk and want to install Teamviewer on some of their machines to do remote support. To be validated across the network or Internet, I need to have a passworded login and don't want to use their login names (many without passwords!) but only one of my choice or preferably the 'hidden' Administrator account (best for full access). Is it possible to have access to Administrator (I know how to enable it) and not spread confusion by having it plastered on the login screen?

I've been trying to find a way for the follwoing to happen; My mum and dad have a static caravan and have paid for the sites wifi for the year, which works fine. When you open a browser it autoredirects you to a login page which needs your username and password. This is fine for their laptop but they have a Media Centre which I would like to have a internet connection at boot up at least to chekc for updates/tv guide etc. The only way this can happen is if they get the keyboard and mouse out, drop MediaCentre, open IE and login in. Obviously this isn't going to happen, at least not often. So is it possible to get a script that;1, Run's at start up or as a task that somehow logs you onto the internet automatically?

There is no password setTHere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon

Finally got windows 7 installed after about an hour, then after all the restarts and boots, finally logs in...
and i find that although my usb mouse is working fine, my Windows Multimedia Keyboard isn't working at all.
I tried installing the 7 beta of intellitype but no difference. Also after restarting Windows 7 it now gets stuck at the boot logo...
seems like i should download and install either 7077 or just go back to 7000..

Are branch builds of RC1 capable of using windows update to bring it up to the later RC builds? or will it be like the beta's and require a fresh install or upgrade?
I ask, because if 7057 is a RC branch build, then it would be convenient if I could just use windows update the rest of the time until the full version is released.

If you want to revert back to build 7048 without having to do a fresh install and re-install all your programs you CAN actually do an "Update" from Windows 7 7057 to 7048.
You'll just get a Warning that the version is older than your current and that a device or two might not work --mine indicated the Motorola sm56 fax modem -- but I've got the driver for that anyway if I want to use it.
This leads creedence to the fact tha 7057 was "an Interim" build never intended for serious development use whereas build 7048 was actually part of the "True" development cycle.
Maybe my English might be mis-understood here -- I am NOT implying that build 7057 is a FAKE but just that it is a "testing" type build designed to check out certain parts of the process -- for example a lot of people experience longer install times before the Language menu comes up (perversly the better your gear the longer it takes to "start").
My advice would be that if you haven't installed 7057 don't bother --stay with 7048 until the next decent "leaked build" or the official RC1.
At least you won't have to look at the HIDEOUS logon screen.

Im running build 7057 on my Asus G50vt-X1 laptop and for some reason when I go to shutdown it will freeze on the shutdown background and not shut down. I'm not quite sure why. I have manually changed the logon and shutdown backgrounds via a regedit but it wouldn't complete the shutdown long before that. Any ideas?

I bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.

Can someone confirm that it's a general problem or have I just got a bad D/L.
If I try and UPGRADE from Windows 7 build 7048 X-64 to Build 7057 X-64 it starts OK but after a while (during the expanding files stage) I get error -- some necessary files for installation cannot be copied ??
Clean install seem to wok.
HA1 and checksums of my iso seem correct.
Actually upgrading from a beta to another beta is not a goood idea anyway but I want to make sure that I haven't got a bad D/L before I try an upgrade from a Vista installation.

I'm facing some trouble installing windows 7 x64 build 7057
When i click "install now" button after booting from the DVD-Rom. I get an error at times stating that i need DVD/CD-Rom Device Drivers and it does not detect the harddrive. However if i wait a little while before clicking the "Install Now" button, i pass on to Licence Agreement page.
From there i get a choice to Upgrade or Custom Install. If i chose upgrade it gives compatibility issue report as i do not have any OS running on the Drive i wan to Install Windows 7 on.
When i chose Custom i get to choose a partition. I chose the Primary Drive C partition as this 120GB hdd has no windows installed (my regular 500GB HDD that has winxp and vista64 is physically disconnected through this process). The Partition 1 has 29.8GB free when formated. I start the installation on that
The first Step "Copying Windows Files" takes few seconds and reaches 100% without error
The Second Step "Expanding Windows Files" stays on 0% for around 5 to 10 minutes and returns an error:
"Windows Cannot Install Required Files. Make Sure all files required for Installation are available, and restart the installation."
After I click 'OK', it says on the Screen "The installation was cancelled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved."
I do not understand if this is my hardware related issue or do i have a bad DVD. My DVD seems to be loading up fine and files do copy around from it. The ISO i copied this from seems to be ok. Could someone explain why am I facing this error and how can I solve it?

I tried installing the upgrade build 7057 over 7000 (x86) and it seemed to work fine. But then Windows 7 boots into the message "preparing your desktop for first use". It follows the message "Setup will continue after restarting your computer" and after ca. 1 Minute it restarts and does exactly the same. I tried that for about 5 times and it keeps doing that. No error messages.
Did anybody have this problem as well? Any ideas for troubleshooting?
Addition: I have just seen that people have problems with Norton 360, which I have installed, too. Maybe I can boot into safemode and remove Norton - I will try this tonight and report.

If you really dislike the pale blue logon screen with that ridiculous "Peace Dove" (ZAP it someone) please then GOOD news.
Stardocks LOGONSTUDIO works on both X-86 and x-64 versions of Windows 7 including build 7057 (which is the one with the hideous Dove on it and the pale blue insipid colour).
Whilst the supplied screens aren't very adventurous you can download others or "Roll your Own".
Maybe we should have a competition here -- It's a bit difficult to post the image as one hasn't logged in yet --so you can't capture the screen.
I might have a go by using a VM and then capturing the Virtual Machine image from the Host OS.

I installed Build 7057, and my Dynex Enhanced Wireless-G USB Adapter (DX-EBUSB) won't work. The problem started with the device just ceasing to work after 5-10 minutes of use. I uninstalled and "reinstalled" the drivers, and there's still no luck.
The device can detect my Router, but it won't connect to it. I get the "limited access" popup. Something else to note is that during the driver installation, it gives a "Please plug in the device to a USB port" message, although it won't recognize the plugged-in device. Weird, eh?
This is weird, since I was able to DL the 64-bit driver for Vista/Windows 7 Build 7000, and it would work.
