i have a windows vista home premium installed on my laptop A215-S4757 & i didn't get its recovery but i managed to get a recovery for A215-S4757 (same as mine) from my friend would it work if i used his recovery on my laptop? & would the drivers be automatically configured?
View 9 RepliesMy 2 new vista laptops won't see either the network set up at home or my office (both as 'OFFICE') or vice versa. I downloaded the LLTD and it's made not one jot of difference..Been through the sharing etc. *The 2 lappys see eachother BTW*I downloaded network magic demo on one laptop and the main PC at home and appears the network is correct as they both see eachother . (it even sees the one laptop which hasn't got NM on it) I must say I'm kinda disappointed that Vista and XP are not properly configured to automatically 'see' eachother and have to resort to a 3rd party to do so?
That aside I have three options
1 Dump Vista (my current fav ;-)
2 Solve this problem
3 Buy NM for home/work
If anyone has any input I'd love to see if no/ 2 can be cracked!
ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.
My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster
While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.

I used to be able to boot into safe mode ,but now it wont let me log in using safemode. At regular intervals Windows Mail starts and jumps to the foregroudn on its own without any action by me that would cause this behavior. Typical example is when playing a game/watching a video in full screen mode Mail jumps up and throws the other program in the background. This is extremely annoying, any suggestions on what might be causing this? I haved no mail accounts configured in Mail and I have tried to disable all automatic notifications and automatic checing for new messages.

This is run in conjunction with avast! v4.8 Home Edition - Free Anti-Virus, and with regular checks using Spybot Search and Destroy v1.6.2.46 - both kept right up to date. Regardless of the fact that at Windows Defender>Tools>Options, I have these settings, Windows Defender never automatically completes the set task, and I am sometimes reminded that a scan has not been done for 2-3 days, and then need to complete the job manually. The Laptop is always ON at this time, and I fail to see a reason why Windows Defender should fail to activate the set scan. It's a minor nuisance, but a nuisance all the same.

Now, i noticed that i have a similar issue when i try to send a link to the current webpage i'm viewing. When i choose File->Send, there are options to send a link and a page but they are greyed out.

I have windows vista home premiun SP1. By the way a virus altered HOSTS file and can not connect to internet with firefox, I added 127.0.0.1 to the file in order to make it work.

I am working on moving over to Windows Vista, in hopes of going officially to Windows 7. I know I should be checking for Windows 7 but I have a full Vista Ultimate 64Bit. I have most of my devices configured but I do not seem to get my GVC modem to install. It is based off a Conexant processor and XP was able to use a "generic" Conexant driver.

I am using Windows Mail with Gmail's IMAP configured. I've configured it in Windows Mail as per the directions in the Gmail web site. Regardless, I get this error message every time I try to check my Gmail:

I seem to recall (but may be mistaken) that when I installed Comodo on an XP machine, Comodo automatically switched off the Windows firewall and Windows also recognised that Comodo was installed and had taken the place of the Windows firewall. Therefore I was surprised that after installing Comodo on my Vista machine that the Windows firewall was still on and when switched off still told me that I had no firewall. Is this correct behaviour or has my installation not gone correctly? Also, when I first log on I get a pop-up from Comodo telling me that svchost.exe is trying to access the internet - is that valid and what should my response be to set it permanently recognised as good?

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I had to open Internet Explorer (I use Mozilla) to access my school email account. Everything went fine and when I was done I reopened Mozilla to browse again. I got one of those annoying spam web popups saying I had a computer infection and clicked out of it. A few minutes later my pc just randomly rebooted. I have had viruses before but it has never shut down randomly before. So I immediately restarted in safemode and ran my spyware tools. I found 3 trojans (I no longer remember their names) and removed them. I rebooted and it starts to load windows but reboots before it reaches the user account screen. I can get into safe mode and I did run my spyware tools again, they didn't find anything at all. I figured I had somehow damaged my system and so I downloaded a windows repair disc and repairedit. It didn't work. I've run startup repair and that didn't work or find anything wrong either.
