I just bought a new computer with Vista. I want to use Windows mail for one of my email addresses... a live.com address. Every time I try to set up mail for my address, it says all identities have been imported. But that's not true. What do I do now...AND why doesn't microsoft offer real help? Cost them too much????

The biggest factor that explains why your scores between XP and Vista are so radically different is because the benchmark program you are using (you never said which) is likely written specifically for XP. The Vista scores cannot be taken as a true benchmark unless you use a benchmarking utility written specifically for Vista, such as PCMark Vantage. You can then compare scores between yours and other Vista installations. But unless you find a utility that can correctly test and recognize the differences between both XP and Vista, you cannot accurately compare scores.

However, how do I set up this Windows Live mail account?? When I put in my email address as xxxxx@hotmail.com I get the error message that Hotmail is no longer supported. So what what is my email address extension now? I cannot send pictures out of Photoshop and other problems now that Hotmail is not supported.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn Outlook Express, I used to add a registry D-String value to the WAB4 folder called "UseOutlook" with a "1" value. This allowed OE to pull my contacts from Outlook and keep the OE and Outlook address books identical. Upgraded to Vista/Windows Mail and even though it pulled my address book from OE, I can't figure out how to link to Outlook as before. Also, even though I've checked the box to automatically fill e-mail name/address when composing an e- mail, it's only auto filling names I've sent e-mails to from Windows Mail, not from the Contacts book.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI put together a new system, and the hard drive shows its true size (250GB) in the bios, however during the windows vista 64bit installation the hard drive says its only 232 GB. I then exited the installtion and restarted. It still said it was 232GB. I continued on with the installation hoping to see if it would change once Windows was installed with all the drivers. I paritioned the drive so that windows would be 50GB and the rest of the drive would be for whatever i wanted and i would split it up later. I proceeded to format the remainder of the hard drive before i went on to install windows, and it stayed there for a while and then i realised it locked up and i got a BSOD.
I reset the computer, and went on to install windows and i didnt bother to format the remainder of the hard drive. Windows installed without any problems, but when i get to windows, the drive still shows as 232GB. I ran a memory test from a Kubuntu CD and its not the ram.
About a month ago, Windows mail started dropping the 1st 2 letters of the reply-to email address for all of my Yahoo contacts I deleted the contacts from my list and reentered them it still does it. I can send a new email to these people just fine but cannot use the "reply to" feature.

I just recently purchased my Vista pc, and I'm having problems organizing my contacts in the new Windows Mail address book (or contacts folder). In OE, I could sort my contacts into folders. Then when I would send an e-mail I could click on "to" and a window opened showing the list of folders in a drop down menu. I would choose the folder I wanted to pick my recipient (s) from. I could choose them individually or in groups. For some reason I can't figure out how to do this with Windows Mail Contacts. I have sorted my contacts into separate folders, but every time I click on "to" to choose the recipients of my message, it does not show the folders, but instead shows every single contact in the folder. It doesn't separate them at all. This makes choosing the recipients very tedious indeed.

a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
My main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine. But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. Does anyone know is it the bug of Vista Windows Mail?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do not have Vista, or Windows Mail, or Hotmail, so I'm flying a bit blind here. I have an acquaintance who has Vista, but does all her emailing via Hotmail. Recently, she has had some problems with the Hotmail service, and she has asked me if it is possible for her to change to the mail program that comes with Vista. (Windows Mail?) The snag is, she would like to import the contents of of all her web-based Hotmail folders, (her email messages in other words), and her Hotmail contacts into whatever email program she changes to.
1. Would this be possible with Windows Mail, or does she need to write off all her Hotmail stuff and start again from scratch?
2. If it is not possible with Windows Mail, is it possible with any other email client, such as Thunderbird or similar?
I'm completely lost now. My network is standard DHCP 192.168.1.0 subnet 255.255.255.0 using a router. I'm running vista ultimate x64 and home premium x64 alongside XP pro 32 bit. The 2 vista PCs can ping each other by name and ip address but can't ping xp by name or ip. XP can ping itself and the 2 Vista PCs by name and IP.
I've tried with both the Vista and XP firewalls disabled and enabled with the required ICMP exceptions in different combination, e.g. both of, xp off-Vista on, Vista off-XP on, both on. This used to work but stopped in about the last 5-7 days or so. My mobo on ultimate popped and then I swapped two vista name (about 2 weeks ago).
How can I post a email through my Vista mail? Do I need a Vista email address?

The first e-mail address is working fine, but when I send an e-mail to the second address (from the default account), it does not appear in the Inbox. The e-mail does appear in the Sent Items folder with no errors. How do I access the second account to receive/send e-mails?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 80gb Vista laptop is out of space, so I bought a 250gb drive and installed it in a USB 2.0 enclosure. I have tried both the True Image clone procedure and also partitioning the 250gb with 2 partitions then backing up the original drive to one of the partitions, replacing the 80 with 250 and tried to recover into the blank partition but no success.
I get the cannot boot message and must use the install cd to enable the new clone but I still am unable to boot into the cloned version. I have had great luck with Acronis but just cannot make this work. I am using True Image Home V10 Build 4.942) with Windows Vista Home Basic with SVC Pk1. Are there any of the drive manufacturers that have a utility that will get around this boot problem with Vista? I am ready to buy another drive just to get this done.
States it is Vista Compatible. Has anyone used it and if so what is your impression.

Members must provide valid e-mail addresses and nobody is to send messages to the group without membership and valid acknowledged address. So, my question is, how did this happen ? How did the message get through, and how did the sender use faked address and still be able to send the message out? We want to stop this.

The file has been saved as an excel file onto a USB Mem Stick She will be installing Office 2007 etc, Will OE be able to "Import" the CS File into her "New" OE Address Book? (Each mention I have seen describes the CS File as a "text" file)
