Mar 27, 2009Is there a way to arrange contacts by e-mail address? I am talking about the contacts that are available online. That was doable in the prior version of MSN.

Mail Contacts To OE Address Book
Aug 16, 2009I have just talked a friend (over the phone) on how to "Export" her Vista Mail Contacts as A comma separated file. She is going to dump Vista and install Win XP (and OE). The file has been saved as an excel file onto a USB Mem Stick She will be installing Office 2007 etc, Will OE be able to "Import" the CS File into her "New" OE Address Book? (Each mention I have seen describes the CS File as a "text" file)

Mar 23, 2008I just recently purchased my Vista pc, and I'm having problems organizing my contacts in the new Windows Mail address book (or contacts folder). In OE, I could sort my contacts into folders. Then when I would send an e-mail I could click on "to" and a window opened showing the list of folders in a drop down menu. I would choose the folder I wanted to pick my recipient (s) from. I could choose them individually or in groups. For some reason I can't figure out how to do this with Windows Mail Contacts. I have sorted my contacts into separate folders, but every time I click on "to" to choose the recipients of my message, it does not show the folders, but instead shows every single contact in the folder. It doesn't separate them at all. This makes choosing the recipients very tedious indeed.

Jan 2, 2008Using Vista Easy Transfer, I migrated all my files from my XP laptop (running Office 2003) to my new Dell laptop (running Office 2007). Everything went fine, except I don’t have any address book when I attempt to send an email from Outlook. All my contacts came across in the transfer, but they don’t appear in an address book. When I attempt to designate a Contacts folder (via the properties dialog box in the contacts folder) as an Outlook address book, the check box to allow this is greyed out – and under the Administration tab in the same properties dialog box, it appears that no one is allowed access (nothing is checked, but this is also greyed out). When I have installed Office 2007 on other machines, still running XP, all works OK – so it appears the problem is Vista based.

In my old outlook it would give me options when I started typing in the To/CC/BCC bars and made it much easier & faster to email people. Now, unless I've sent an email to a person earlier in the day, I need to type the entire email address or click on the To/CC/BCC tabs. Is there a setting to allow the population of addresses to resume?

Oct 15, 2009i've got a few folder questions: would there be a way to add the option to 'sort by type' to every folder? i use this often, and it gets annoying to have to add it manually. secondly, is is possible to disable 'auto arrange' and enable 'align to grid' for EVERY folder? i can't stand auto arrange, personally. i tried 'folder options > apply to folders' but got no success. also, a bit unrelated, but i've come across occasional folders that don't display the dot next to 'sort by -> (whatever)'. i can click 'sort by type', for example and it will re-order the icons but won't show the dot. this is a bug, right? Feb 28, 2009I've read several comments regarding the problem I have found about using windows vista mail, all with the same result - no useful solution. Having just moved from Outlook Express, I am accustomed to using sub folders under contacts. I set up subfolders in Vista contacts but they do not show up when I wish to forward an email using "To:" to select members of a folder, ie "family"
How inconvenient to have to search through all 300 or so addresses to find the 5 or 6 I want to forward to. "Family" is mixed in with all the rest. Creating a group is inappropriate when I do not want to send to ALL addresses in a group. Any news on a correction to this problem?
Or, is it possible to import Outlook from my XP system to use on this new one? The "work arounds" I have seen suggested are rediculous - this seems a serious flaw in the product to me! Any news of an improvement with SP2? (I have SP1 preinstalled) So far I find Vista NOT user friendly! Each problem requires hours of research to discover there is no solution...:mad:

Jun 25, 2008I want to move my "My Documents" folder, etc to a separate partition on my hard drive. I started moving the folders, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, etc and when I got to the Contacts folder everything screwed up. Now I can't use Windows Mail. When I try to launch Windows Mail the first message I get is:
"CONTACTS FAILED TO LOAD."

THE NEXT IS:
[B] "WINDOWS MAIL COULD NOT BE STARTED. THE APPLICATION WAS UNABLE TO INITIALIZE WINDOWS CONTACTS. YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE OUT OF MEMORY OR YOUR DISK IS FULL(0X8000FFFF)." The third is: "WINDOWS MAIL COULD NOT BE STARTED BECAUSE MSOE.DLL COULD NOT BE INITIALIZED."

Apr 30, 2008I used to have outlook express, and when i wanted to send mail to Tim i could type T and the rest of the name would appear as long as tim was in my contacts. but now in windows vista, when i put Tim in my contacts it auto completes his address not his name so.....if tims address is adsfsdf@wwe.com typing in his name helps me none....is there any way to change this?

Mar 23, 2008I am maintained Vista laptops for two elderly people and set them up on Internet Mail, they were on OE before. They like that it grabs contacts for them, the problem is that it duplicates them relentlessly: say Fred emails you often you get a Fred contact a (1) Fred, a (2) Fred, etc... For the life of me I can't find were to fix this, the knowledge base offers me the right choices but finds no documents. Does anybody have this problem? I can easily download Thunderbird for them but I'm trying to keep these laptops as simple as possible.
