Windows Mail Drops 1st 2 Letters Of Reply-To Address
Jan 2, 2010
About a month ago, Windows mail started dropping the 1st 2 letters of the reply-to email address for all of my Yahoo contacts I deleted the contacts from my list and reentered them it still does it. I can send a new email to these people just fine but cannot use the "reply to" feature.

Have a Dell Vostro laptop with Windows 7 Professional. I did download and install Windows Live Mail. I use Verizon Mobile Broadband (USB). Whenever I start to use Mail, my Broadband connection disconnects, after a short time? When I use the Internet Browser, I have no problems. Has anyone seen this before and are there any fixes?

When I write a new email, I get automatically my default address ("manic") in my "from" box but when I reply to a message sent to my default address ("manic") the "from" box shows my secondary address ("talktalk").

When I use the Reply function in Windows Mail it chooses to place an email address that is not my default address in the From box at the top. This is a problem because now people have a more private email address that I kept for specific use.

People say auto replies cannot be set up in Windows Mail... but they can... When using Outlook Express I set up an auto reply while i was on vacation and could never turn it off... it has nothing to do with message rules, because I deleted all rules... when i migrated to Windows Mail in Vista... the auto reply still happens... i can't find a way to turn it off...

first of all vista is the most sluggish os i hv ever encountered till date, hope that MS will not come out with more slower than this one.
I am not able to compose a new mail nor reply to any of the emails. as soon as i hit the reply or reply all button, the window opens up and the MS Vista windows gets busy forever, unless u click close and kill the process.

I can post / reply newsgroup in microsoft news group with my new system (WM + vista), just as exactly this one does. But, I couldn't do so in my university's news group, it only worked fine with my system installed with XP + OE! Is it possible for some news servers do not accept posting / reply from WM / vista (*however, i can't read the newsgroup without any problem...)

I'm running Vista and using Windows Mail. I can recieve emails no problem and when I reply to an email it gets the recipient fine. However, if I create a new email and send it goes out of my outbox but the receipient never recieves it. I have spoken to LCN who host my email and they have run tests to hotmail, gmail and business accounts. They say the email get through to the recipient server fine but they cannot track them from there. Trying this myself I can confirm that there are not getting through to regular contacts inboxes at business and webmail accounts and they are not even going to junk mail.
They said to try changing the outgoing to my ISP SMTP details which I did but still no joy. They and my ISP have both said this is all they can do. I've turned off my anti-virus can for outgoing mails as well but still have the problem. Everything was working fine till a few days ago. When I called LCN they said my nameserver needed updating, which they did, and that it would take 24 hrs for the DNS propagation. It's now been 3 days and still the same problem. Email host and ISP say they can't help. I've checked and I'm not on a blacklist.

When reading an email using Windows Mail,if the text in the body of that email contains an email address,is it possible to double click on that address and have Windows Mail open automatically with a blank reply page?
This operation used to work OK with XP & OE however using Vista & Windows Mail it only pops up a message stating that the program is not associated. Clicking on an email address in a web page using IE8 works fine, it opens up a Windows Mail reply page.

I have Vista and I find out Hotmail is not longer supported. That is just great! I have done the stuff to still use my hotmail account (I think). However, how do I set up this Windows Live mail account?? When I put in my email address as xxxxx@hotmail.com I get the error message that Hotmail is no longer supported. So what what is my email address extension now? I cannot send pictures out of Photoshop and other problems now that Hotmail is not supported.

In Outlook Express, I used to add a registry D-String value to the WAB4 folder called "UseOutlook" with a "1" value. This allowed OE to pull my contacts from Outlook and keep the OE and Outlook address books identical. Upgraded to Vista/Windows Mail and even though it pulled my address book from OE, I can't figure out how to link to Outlook as before. Also, even though I've checked the box to automatically fill e-mail name/address when composing an e- mail, it's only auto filling names I've sent e-mails to from Windows Mail, not from the Contacts book.

I am trying to create a Windows Mail account. I have always used Hotmail and when I try to email someone directly (from craigslist, for example) it pops up that I have to download Windows Mail and then I go through all the info and then it says that a msn.com address won't work with Windows Mail?

When I try to reply, reply all or forward an email either in preview or from an open email nothing happens. Message at the top (Not responding). It seems like the program freezes or there is a very long delay for the reply or forwarded email to appear. If and when it does appear, the email is blank with no text, it is still waiting for the info to load whether there is an attachment or not. When I try to x out, a new window opens giving me the option to restart the program, close or wait for windows mail to respond.

I just recently purchased my Vista pc, and I'm having problems organizing my contacts in the new Windows Mail address book (or contacts folder). In OE, I could sort my contacts into folders. Then when I would send an e-mail I could click on "to" and a window opened showing the list of folders in a drop down menu. I would choose the folder I wanted to pick my recipient (s) from. I could choose them individually or in groups. For some reason I can't figure out how to do this with Windows Mail Contacts. I have sorted my contacts into separate folders, but every time I click on "to" to choose the recipients of my message, it does not show the folders, but instead shows every single contact in the folder. It doesn't separate them at all. This makes choosing the recipients very tedious indeed.

I've got a production network that I'm test Windows Vista x64 Enterprise on. I'm at my witts end with this problem: I add the Vista PC to the Windows domain. The computer performs the tasks and then tells me it needs to reboot. Upon rebooting it immeadiately drops itself from Active Directory (Windows 2003 SP2 R2 based domain).
Oddly, the computer account in active directory is still there. The Vista client drops itself, but the server side thinks everything is fine. What the heck is causing this? There are no issues with IPv4 connectivity. (We don't use IPv6...) The server shows that the PC and the users are connecting to the domain securely, and without issues (pass security audits). The Vista Client (Enterprise x64) just drops itself from Active Directory.

This urgent as she uses the computer for her business and it has literally several thousand email addresses, email groups, and messages. The OS is Vista Home Premium. Where within the file structure on her hard drive would I find those folders/files? Which folders/files am I specifically looking for?

that her Windows Mail is really strange. I can't help her because I don't use Windows Mail so I am asking on her behalf.
a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
