When I first start Vista mail a popup asks me if I want to find my connection on this phone number or should it dial another number. When I click on newsgroups I get the same message and have to answer and when I click back to my inbox I get the popup question again and I have to click it repeatedly. It asks if it should dial another connection that is no longer on the computer. How can I kill this damned message? I switched to Live Mail but it does the same thing with that so I'm back with mail.
I'm running Vista Home edition on my laptop and when I use my laptop at home, it keeps on connecting to an unsecured default wireless network, instead of connecting to my home network, which is named and is secured. I guess one of my neighbours decided to just run their wireless network like that. How can I prevent my laptop from connecting to other networks other than the ones I specify? I've looked in the settings and options in the wireless connection management utility in Vista and couldn't find a way to do that. Perhaps i didn't look hard enough,
I have noticed that this topic has been posted more than once and I have read some of them. I have removed Norton Internet Security 2009. I have removed my e-mailaccounts and reset them. I have reinstalled Norton and nothing works. Everytime I want receive and/or send mail, Windows Mail asks for my username and password. Even when Norton wasn't installed Windows Mail didn't remember, so I don't think Norton is causing this problem.
When receiving mail, it asks me to verify username and password. Everytime i put in the correct information and it keeps asking me to verify. I can send mail fine.
I need to read an email from sometime ago. In XP I know where the .dbx files are. I can't find them in Vista 64. Are the still here or are the something else.I have unchecked hide protected bits and bobs.
When I turn my PC on in the morning it takes about 15 minutes to hook up to the internet and then it is just fine all day. My ISP says it is my PC and HP says my PC is fine. I have ran the Identify and Fix Network problems. It says it can't fix and it might be several net work adapters. A couple times it said it couldn't find my ISP provider. Both said to delete history and cookies and it didn't work.
I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second. I have tried all available options.
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
It just happened now, after almost 2 years. When I open WM, it asks for my username and password, every time. Before I do a system restore, I 'd like to know if there is reason for that, and if there is another way to fix this annoyance.
On my grandmas computer, I created a 2nd account and made it the admin account. At some point, this account somehow became a standard account and now there is no admin. Now whenever I try 2 do nething, it asks for the admin password but the area where you would enter the password and the OK key are greyed out. ive tryed a few things I thaut of and a few things from other sites including starting in safe mode and reinstalling vista completely, of course reinstalling didnt work because it needs permission to run. Ive posted on like 5 forums and asked all my friends and no1 has a clue how to fix this or even how its posible so if ne1 has ne idea wat 2 do.
Whenever I click on a link that is contained in a website or in an email Windows WORD opens!!!and there is a box that pops up and asks for a user name and a password.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to get rid of it? This only started several days ago.
A friend has Vista and I have sent him a file of the Earth from space. He has tried to open it but he gets asked for a product key for office. He has put in his Vista key but no go.
If I use winrar or 7zip or whatever, Vista won't extract the files. Winrar says I don't have the rights to do so and won't let me tell it to do anything. 7zip acts as if it is working but the file never extracts. If I open up the folder to extract to and drag the files from the zipper program it asks for permission and will complete the task. how to tell Vista to allow extractions from winrar or 7zip
Laptop connected wireless to a router. Desktop connected to same router with Ethernet cable. Seagate external HDD, connected to the desktop with a USB 2 connection. I'm trying to use Vista Backup & Restore to backup the laptop to the external HDD. When I try to set it up, the program finds the disk alright. But then it asks for a user & password. What user & password? I tried with all the PW's and users I have on the two computers, but nothing works.
I am trying to install a printer on machine 2 from machine 1. The printer is shared. Same workgroup The same logon information on both machines, user and password the same. When I log onto machine 1 it won't let me print. It tells me I don't have access or the print spooler is not running.. If I go to network places on machine 1 and click on machine 2 it asks for the user name and password. I enter the same information I entered when I logged onto machine 1 and after this I have connectivity and am able to print.
I have a mapped drive on a NAS that has all my downloaded software on it. When I run one of the installers it always asks for a login. What gives? I'm already logged into the drive. Why is it asking for login again? How do I stop this annoying behaviour?

I've got an Adobe Master Suite Collection CS3 Extended (AMSC CS3 Ext) installed on my computer. I have windows vista ultimate 64-bit OS. Now i very new to this blog so bare with me. If this problem has a solution. Anyways all of the programs (within AMSC CS3 Ext) run fine on my computer except (cue dramatic music) Photoshop CS3! Now i dont get an error or any kind of error when i installed the program but when i start the program it does like its going to start up and its loading the tools and stuff but when it gets to "Building TWAIN menu items" it turns a transparent white and says there is a problem and Photoshop cs3 has stopped working and then sadly asks to close the program. My max display resolution is 1280x800 (fujitsu generic monitor), and it seems I can't see the bottom of the popup where you change/edit signatures. Isn't there supposed to be somewhere in these options where you can click an OK or apply button?
Hi, can anybody advise,i get this popup box only when i plug in a flash drive, or external hard drive, it doesent seem to bother the programs and i cant remove it from the screen untill i remove the external hardrives and then restart the computer i have widows vista premium 32-bit.
Creative register popup keeps on comimg up after I uninstalled all my Creative products also a popup (gentle reminder) keeps poping up.Is there any way to stop this and how does happen even after uninstall?
Adobe Flash is not working in any of the programs that use it unless I run the program as administrator, then it works fine. However, I do not want to be forever having to run all my programs as administrator because either I have to right click and do it, or set it to run as administrator which means I get the popup from UAC. I didn't have flash installed. I have tried all the solutions offered on the adobe site several times and none of them will work.
Is there a way to set constant UAC popup window positions? It appears in different places on the screen depending on application, for example while starting Total Commander with administrator's right the UAC window appears at the left low corner, Symantec Endpoint Protection - at the middle of the screen's bottom. It's not a big problem of course, but maybe it is possible to fix such behavior?
I just recently got a new motherboard processor etc, and so i had to reinstall vista, well, i decided to go ahead and up to x64 so i backed up my hard drive under my current ultimate32bit and then formatted and installed ultimate64. So i thought i'd do a restore of my drive's backup, so i popped in my install disc, clicked repair comp, clicked restore a backup, chose the backup i wanted, confirmed, then a box popped that said basically, "The windows restore has failed. This backup can be restored on this computer. Please use the correct Windows Recovery Envirnment (x64) WinRE."
With all the previous versions of Windows, I could easily find the folder that stored the "cookies." Try as I may, I can't find it on Vista. I get the Windows Vista magazine and they printed the "route" you had to take, but it didn't work. Where is the cookie folder?
I saw a post here asking about where to find themes for VISTA. When I went to the suggested site, I saw what looks to me like different desktop background pictures and different window colors. I can do all that without added software
Just wondering if Vista has a zip utility? I know about Winzip, etc but XP had a zip utility with it, as did the other previous versions of Windows. I cannot find Vista's zip utility.
