View 4 Replies View RelatedThe biggest factor that explains why your scores between XP and Vista are so radically different is because the benchmark program you are using (you never said which) is likely written specifically for XP. The Vista scores cannot be taken as a true benchmark unless you use a benchmarking utility written specifically for Vista, such as PCMark Vantage. You can then compare scores between yours and other Vista installations. But unless you find a utility that can correctly test and recognize the differences between both XP and Vista, you cannot accurately compare scores.

I have tried to start in safe mode to see if i could run adaware and or other spyware removal tools but when trying to use safe mode i get the same black screen. I have gone to the F8 options and run a repair whcih came back with the following errors:
System Volume Corrupt. The file or directory/Program Files/common Files is corrupt & unreadable run the chkdsk utility. Also before this i went in and changed the boot sequence to boot form the HDD? not sure if that may have cause it to throw up the errors above. Now i ran a hardware test and all came back with green ticks stating no problems.
When i bought the pc i was not supplied with the windows Vista recoverycd and updon calling HP was told i would have to BUY it. which i wont do if i can fix it myself. Can anyone please give advise on anything i can try.
I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
Anyone know of a good free HD LED indicator utility for Vista? My system is on the floor and it would be cool if there's a Tray Indicator that simulates the HD LED flashes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy company has a fax shared on one of the 2003 servers. When I print to this fax server in Windows XP the Fax Wizard walks me thru all the necesarry screens and remembers my Delivery Notification settings, i.e. whether I want a notification, the email address I want the notification sent to and the attach a copy of the fax to the notification.
All of these settings I can find in the XP Registry at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftFaxUserInfoReceiptEMail(dword), ReceiptAttachFax(dword) and ReceiptAddress(string). However, I cannot find these same settings in Vista Registry. I can set these each time I send a fax in Vista under ToolsOptions, but it is a pain to have to set these everytime I send a fax in Vista. Where can I find the equivalent Vista Registry values?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't connect to internet by Windows Vista. I tried to establish a dial-up connection, but Windows Vista can't find the modem. Even by giving the dial-up number and other login info, I can't connect to internet. Vista and XP are on different local disk and I can contact you with XP. I'm not sure what the modem is exactly (broadband, WWIS, DSL, etc.), it's a phone line modem with a speed of 56 kbps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am not a native english speaker, so don't hate me for language problems. So, the problem I have here is that Windows Vista does not find any DRM protected music files I have. I am a new Napster Flatrate To-Go user. I can download alot of albums, but of course they are DRM protected, which is not a problem for me. But what is an problem for me is, that any downloaded files won't be found by the index. The music files of Napster are stored in my music folder (C:Users...Music), so the indexer should find them. Any other music I had (non DRM protected files) can be found easily via the Startmenu, the search dialog and Windows Media Player. The DRM protected files can't be found, except than in Windows Media Player. I already deleted the old index-cache and created a new one, but that didn't help either. Anyone else with this problem? Or a solution maybe? Or is this a general "bug" in Windows Vista?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a clean install on a newly built system but Vista can not see my SATA hard drive. I have a Seagate 7200 barracuda 320 GB SATA HD and a Giga-byte P35 Mobo. Not knowing if it was a Vista issue or a hardware issue, I put in a XP installation disk and XP could recognize the drive. I stopped the install and tried loading some drivers off of the disk from Gigabyte. Vista still can not see the hard drive, but now when I throw the XP install disk back in, it can not see the hard drive either.

I've looked in the settings and options in the wireless connection management utility in Vista and couldn't find a way to do that. Perhaps i didn't look hard enough,
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have -Dell XPS 730x with 6 GIG DDR3 RAM, Intel i7 64 bit Processor, 500 GIG disk,
I am running -Windows Vista Home Premium 64 which was preinstalled on the cpu
I want to -Dual boot between Vista64 and Windows XP32
So far -I have done everything to this machine from creating a virtual window in Vista64, to going into the command prompt from vista boot disk and running diskpart to clear hard drive.
I currently have -Two partitions on one disk. Primary 200GIG and Healthy 265GIG -Windows Vista Home Premium64 installed and running
The problems im having -every time try to boot from CD and run the windows xp setup, it is UNABLE to find ANY HARD DRIVES!
I have researched that
- I must have the disk partitioned
- Windows XP must be installed first
- I have to play with the boot.ini
- If i install vista32 it will be more successful
The errors I have gotten -STOP: 0x0000008E - i researched this and it said one option is to take out the excess RAM
I will be happy if - By the end of this weekend I can successfully run XP or both OS's in dual boot.
I need to go through all this trouble because - Digidesign has not written software for 64 bit proccessing yet. I need to make music.
i bought a western digital My book essentials 500GB external hard disk a few days before. instead of gaining direct access to the drive, i was prompt to install the driver software. however, vista couldn't find the software. the HD is supposed to be plug and play. what can i do here? the HD works with other computers. my newly bought MP3 player is also facing the same problem.
