I saw a post here asking about where to find themes for VISTA. When I went to the suggested site, I saw what looks to me like different desktop background pictures and different window colors. I can do all that without added software
When I right click, Personalize. I don't have a 'Theme' option to click on. I tried looking every where on how to get it back or to change themes another way. This is my last option to fix this. Here is a screen shot on what I am trying to explain.
I am wondering when or if there are any themes for vista like there is for Windows XP. I am starting to get bored with the ones i have as part of vista.
I kinda downloaded some themes for Vista and well... all the folders kinda mixed with the default one.
So, I'm looking for a list of the Official included themes in Vista.
I know that there are :
- Aero
- Classic Windows
I know there was at least 5 of them.
If possible can someone can ZIP and send me the themes in question (C:WindowsResourcesThemes) it would be less difficult to figure out what themes I need to restore from the Bin.
is there an easy way to add new themes? I downloaded a couple vista themes from deviant art and don't have a clue how to make them work. I had the same problem with Icons I downloaded from them a while back but I just gave up and didn't think to ask here, so I am asking about New Icons also.
I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second. I have tried all available options.
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
Vista Home Premium...Is there any way to create ones own theme for things such as the colour of added links bars to the desktop? I would like to have the links bar the same colour as the taskbar (black).
I've tried googling to find out the location of the pictures used in themes in Vista and Windows 7 but haven't found any info. Does anyone know where this info is? Just to clarify, I mean the city, state where the pictures were taken. Not the location of the files on the computer.
i wanted to change the theme of my vista. and i was watching a Internet video Internet - how to enable custom themes in windows vista (+ sp1) and he said that i really dont have to download that vistaglazz or w.e it was, and that i could enable custome themes manually if i just download hacked uxtheme.dll and replace it with the one thats already in system 32.
I'm running vista basic and I'm not at all happy with the default vista theme. It' really really ugly. I dont want to upgrade to premium because I don't need the extra features(just aero).
So is there any way to add new themes? I understand that objectdesk(I think that's what it's called) will let you change themes but I don't want anything running to just change the looks of things. is there any other alternatives(even if it's just a better non aero theme)?
i recently had to reinstall my Windows Vista Home Premium. I am not the best with computers, so I am very stuck on this issue. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS video card installed. When I went to put on a screensaver and use the photo option, it said "this computer's video card cannot play themes." I am very confused because before i had to reinstall windows, this option worked perfectly fine.
I am not a big time computer guy but am learning more and more everyday. I have an HP DV7 64 bit laptop and have dad it since February. In order to try and speed up my computer I have gone in the task manager and msconfig and changed some settings since then and now the computer is running slower. I made recovery disks before I did any of that "tweaking" to the system. WhatI want to know is .....is there any place I can go to get a list of just what exactly should be running in the background? is there somewhere in the computer where I can basically just reset the system back to the default settings? I now have lost windows Aero and cannot access the colors in themes anymore.
I'm having problems with Aero themes in 32 bit colors after computer resume from sleep/hibernate. Screen is messed up (see screenshot at [url]). I have NVidia GForce 6200 chipset card, and now I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but I had the same problem in Vista x64. If I move to 16 bit colors it solves, also with basic theme without Aero. I tried many drivers updates but nothing changed.

With all the previous versions of Windows, I could easily find the folder that stored the "cookies." Try as I may, I can't find it on Vista. I get the Windows Vista magazine and they printed the "route" you had to take, but it didn't work. Where is the cookie folder?
Just wondering if Vista has a zip utility? I know about Winzip, etc but XP had a zip utility with it, as did the other previous versions of Windows. I cannot find Vista's zip utility.
My company has a fax shared on one of the 2003 servers. When I print to this fax server in Windows XP the Fax Wizard walks me thru all the necesarry screens and remembers my Delivery Notification settings, i.e. whether I want a notification, the email address I want the notification sent to and the attach a copy of the fax to the notification.
All of these settings I can find in the XP Registry at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftFaxUserInfoReceiptEMail(dword), ReceiptAttachFax(dword) and ReceiptAddress(string). However, I cannot find these same settings in Vista Registry. I can set these each time I send a fax in Vista under ToolsOptions, but it is a pain to have to set these everytime I send a fax in Vista. Where can I find the equivalent Vista Registry values?
I just switched from XP Pro to Vista Business. My XP had movie maker which I used a lot. Now I cannot find movie maker in Vista. Did I not load movie maker correctly or does it not come in business version?
I need to read an email from sometime ago. In XP I know where the .dbx files are. I can't find them in Vista 64. Are the still here or are the something else.I have unchecked hide protected bits and bobs.
I keep an empty folder on my desktop to hold files I have downloaded until I can work on them or for temporary storage etc. With xp this folder's toolbar had an "X" icon for deleting any highlighted files. For some reason I can't find this in Vista.
I can't connect to internet by Windows Vista. I tried to establish a dial-up connection, but Windows Vista can't find the modem. Even by giving the dial-up number and other login info, I can't connect to internet. Vista and XP are on different local disk and I can contact you with XP. I'm not sure what the modem is exactly (broadband, WWIS, DSL, etc.), it's a phone line modem with a speed of 56 kbps.
I have a Kodak CX7330. On my XP machine, I am able to select only those pictures that I want to transfer, I cannot find such an option on the Vista system.
I am not a native english speaker, so don't hate me for language problems. So, the problem I have here is that Windows Vista does not find any DRM protected music files I have. I am a new Napster Flatrate To-Go user. I can download alot of albums, but of course they are DRM protected, which is not a problem for me. But what is an problem for me is, that any downloaded files won't be found by the index. The music files of Napster are stored in my music folder (C:Users...Music), so the indexer should find them. Any other music I had (non DRM protected files) can be found easily via the Startmenu, the search dialog and Windows Media Player. The DRM protected files can't be found, except than in Windows Media Player. I already deleted the old index-cache and created a new one, but that didn't help either. Anyone else with this problem? Or a solution maybe? Or is this a general "bug" in Windows Vista?
Whatever happened to the file transfer program Alohabob? Microsoft bought the company a few years back and there were reports it was going to be integrated into Vista. I cannot find it anywhere on my Vista system. Was it ever implemented? If not, it certainly should have been. Anyone wishing to transfer files from a previous version of Windows would find it most useful.
There is a link for activities on the Registry for XP and previous Windows, but I cannot find one for Vista. Will someone (with more knowhow than I) please advise me either what is the link, or tell me how to make a backup of the Registry. If I make a backup and then whilst removing unwanted files make a mistake, how do I activate the Backup? Will the activation of backup also restore the removed files?
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to find the mac address for my wireless card in vista. I'm having some difficulty as neither ipconfig /all nor wireless card properties from device manager seems to have the info. I know I could physically look at the card and get the number, but I would really like to learn how to find it through the software.
I am trying to do a clean install on a newly built system but Vista can not see my SATA hard drive. I have a Seagate 7200 barracuda 320 GB SATA HD and a Giga-byte P35 Mobo. Not knowing if it was a Vista issue or a hardware issue, I put in a XP installation disk and XP could recognize the drive. I stopped the install and tried loading some drivers off of the disk from Gigabyte. Vista still can not see the hard drive, but now when I throw the XP install disk back in, it can not see the hard drive either.
