i wanted to change the theme of my vista. and i was watching a Internet video Internet - how to enable custom themes in windows vista (+ sp1) and he said that i really dont have to download that vistaglazz or w.e it was, and that i could enable custome themes manually if i just download hacked uxtheme.dll and replace it with the one thats already in system 32.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've tried googling to find out the location of the pictures used in themes in Vista and Windows 7 but haven't found any info. Does anyone know where this info is? Just to clarify, I mean the city, state where the pictures were taken. Not the location of the files on the computer.
I kinda downloaded some themes for Vista and well... all the folders kinda mixed with the default one.
So, I'm looking for a list of the Official included themes in Vista.
I know that there are :
- Aero
- Classic Windows
I know there was at least 5 of them.
If possible can someone can ZIP and send me the themes in question (C:WindowsResourcesThemes) it would be less difficult to figure out what themes I need to restore from the Bin.
And, yes, my Vista is legit. (and in FRENCH)
I'm running vista basic and I'm not at all happy with the default vista theme. It' really really ugly. I dont want to upgrade to premium because I don't need the extra features(just aero).
So is there any way to add new themes? I understand that objectdesk(I think that's what it's called) will let you change themes but I don't want anything running to just change the looks of things. is there any other alternatives(even if it's just a better non aero theme)?
is there an easy way to add new themes? I downloaded a couple vista themes from deviant art and don't have a clue how to make them work. I had the same problem with Icons I downloaded from them a while back but I just gave up and didn't think to ask here, so I am asking about New Icons also.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS video card installed. When I went to put on a screensaver and use the photo option, it said "this computer's video card cannot play themes." I am very confused because before i had to reinstall windows, this option worked perfectly fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am not a big time computer guy but am learning more and more everyday. I have an HP DV7 64 bit laptop and have dad it since February. In order to try and speed up my computer I have gone in the task manager and msconfig and changed some settings since then and now the computer is running slower. I made recovery disks before I did any of that "tweaking" to the system. WhatI want to know is .....is there any place I can go to get a list of just what exactly should be running in the background? is there somewhere in the computer where I can basically just reset the system back to the default settings? I now have lost windows Aero and cannot access the colors in themes anymore.

When I right click, Personalize. I don't have a 'Theme' option to click on. I tried looking every where on how to get it back or to change themes another way. This is my last option to fix this. Here is a screen shot on what I am trying to explain.
I'm having problems with Aero themes in 32 bit colors after computer resume from sleep/hibernate. Screen is messed up (see screenshot at [url]). I have NVidia GForce 6200 chipset card, and now I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but I had the same problem in Vista x64. If I move to 16 bit colors it solves,also with basic theme without Aero. I tried many drivers updates but nothing changed.

That said, one MAJOR annoyance I've come across is that no matter what I do, I cant keep the custom order of my 'All Programs' and 'Favorites' menus. I'm allowed to drag and drop in the order that I like, but every time I restart it's always put back in alphabetical order. I've unchecked the 'sort by alphabetical' in the 'customize start menu' panel, and I've made sure none of the folders are sorted by name... but
nothing seems to do it.

Now i can re-organise them such as in image 2, but as soon as i restart, the files sort to alphabetical. I've been using Vista since the public beta's and not experienced the problem until i just reinstalled last week.

It's not a huge problem, but i found it very annoying when i am working and need to bring up something quickly while the screen is filled with 100 windows.
I notice that there are only a few choices to the screen saver in vista. is there a way I can add a image to the list without using the option for photos?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a simple way to take your Vista Installation Disc and use it to create a custom installation disc that also includes updated drivers and updated hotfixes. The goal would be that during a clean install, those updated drivers and Windows Updates are installed automatically. For a specific example, I use a USB Wireless Adapter. If I could create a custom windows disc that includes those drivers, then I my USB Wireless Adapter would be recognized and I could therefore allow Windows to connect to the Internet during Setup to see if there are any hotfixes and updates. I've read a little about vLite but don't know if I trust it completely.

Im new to all of this so please bear with me. I'm currently running windows vista 32bit and am having problems with my pc. I noticed my pc was running slow the other day and when I looked at the updates tab it states the last time it updated was in March. I tried to update it, it gives me an error that when I look it up states its firewall related.
(error 80072EFD) I uninstalled all of my anti virus programs and disabled firewalls nada. I've tried to have the pcsafety people do a remote assist 3 times and they cant find the problem. We've scanned the pc for spyware and malware 3 different times (Norman antivirus (the tech did this) spy sweeper and also the tool built into windows. They've
tried resetting the batch etc with no luck. I'm to the point of just reformatting my pc but that brings me to the current dilemma.
I custom built my pc a year ago, it does -not- have a recovery partition and I do not have a back up disk for my os. Is there a way to create a partition of vista's original settings, that I can reboot from?
So I am goofy and want my Vista Ultimate to play my own wav files instead of the ones it came with. but they simply don't play at all. I have done everything I know how to get this to work. I go to control panel sounds and the sound tab and have put the .wav files i want to use into the C:/Windows/Media folder and am able to select them through the sound menu... but the test option plays nothing for my wavs and it doesnt do anything when the system is supposed to make said sound...
I even checked all the properties to make sure they were the same the only differance I can see is that the sound files that work are owned by the system and the ones that dont are owned by administraitor. I do know how to change the ownership of files through the properties menu but even in Administraitor mode there is no option for system... I do not however think that it is the cause... is it that vista just doesnt want you using your own sound files?
my school has asked me to make a splash screen that will boot up when we turn on the computer, is there any simple tutorials on how to do this for windows XP, not using software cause we have to make one custom image to clone on to all the PC's

I am right clicking the desktop > Personalize > then on the left hand side clicking Change Desktop Icons. But when I browse to my image it does not allow it. I have an issue with a custom TSP written in C++. It should be used by outlook to make a call. It works fine under windows xp, but under Vista it doesn't. I am not sure which is the problem because I am able to add it in the Advanced tab from Phone and Modem options and I am able to select it from the New Call dialog from Outlook to use it as a line. When I press Start call i receive an error "An internal error occurred in the automatic phone dialer. Close the dial phone box and then open it again". Also, using the dialer.exe application from microsoft I am unable to use it. The following error shows: "An internal error occured in Phone Dialer. Quit and restart Phone Dialer."

I have been using Outlook since as far as I can remember but, there are times that I want to ring its neck or tear it apart limb from limb...I guess is better I don't know who the creator is But I digress... Anyways, back to my original thought. I have been having some issues with Outlook (best to use a new thread for this) so I decided to change to Mozilla Thunderbird but it didn't work like I thought it would (again... new thread). Bottom line is ...I have to go back to Outlook 2003. My pet peeve is that, even though I back up my pst files, eveytime I need to do a clean Outlook 2003 install or simple migration of sorts, I loose my custom settings, rules & alerts, etc, Is there an easy way to back up all these custom settings as well so you can migrate Outlook painlessly? I have done the google 'till my eyes drew blood but all I am getting are mixed solutions or me having to install a 3rd party software...Right now I have 3 e-mail accounts being handled by Outlook, my Office Personal, Company's bulk e-mail and Company's g-mail so I use a lot of custom settings.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to convert a custom-sized InDesign file to .XPS. When I choose the XPS Document Writer, it gives me the option of choosing a paper size. I choose A3 and the document preview showed it fit. But when I actually print the document, it creates a letter-sized .XPS. I've changed the specifications for the XPS Document writer to print to A3, but it still won't print a copy of the entire original document. I got it to work once before weeks ago, but now I can't remember how.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLong story short, I registered for my Windows 7 upgrade and overwritten my drive (and my restore partition) with the Windows 7 90-day trial in anticipation. problem is, it is clear that my Windows 7 upgrade kit will not be arriving and my 90-day trial is halfway done. so, I have to reinstall Vista. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of Vista because I wiped my drive and so I have to download it (TO BE ACTIVATED ON MY KEY), and I know for a fact that the generic disks for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 do not have a driver for my SATA controller. this means that I have to insert the driver onto the installation.
Since I have to insert my drive driver onto the installation media, I figure I should include drivers, and what the heck include some applications. Now, what applications do you recommend for a basic install of Windows Vista Home Premium that does not use a lot of system resources or otherwise are irrlelvent. So far I have: GO-OO: An OpenOffice clone that includes needed plugins, such as read/write docx support Microsoft Security Essentials.
i have just created a new sidebar gadget and i am having problems when trying to install it. If i save it off as a .zip and then change extension to .gadget it looks okay but then when i click on it and click install it does nothing. But if i put the folder into SERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows SidebarGadgets it will show in my gadgets and i can use it, any ideas why when i put it to a .gadget file it wont install?

On doing that I am now back to the original SP2 Boot Screen and am not able to change it back to my custom image via TuneUp Utilities. I'm kind of guessing one of the "winload.exe.mui" file isn't allowing the change.
"C:WindowsSystem32Booten-US" has only "winresume.exe.mui" `whereas
"C:WindowsSystem32en-US" has both?
I've tried copying the loadfile in System32/en-US but it's not letting me paste in the System32/Boot/en-US due to some folder protectioin. although i've taken full control. Tuneup Utilities is ssaying it's applied the boot screen but vista is still loading the SP2 boot screen.
