Whatever happened to the file transfer program Alohabob? Microsoft bought the company a few years back and there were reports it was going to be integrated into Vista. I cannot find it anywhere on my Vista system. Was it ever implemented? If not, it certainly should have been. Anyone wishing to transfer files from a previous version of Windows would find it most useful.
In diskpart I listed my disks after I plug my ufd drive, I cann't find it in the list. Only hard disk are listed. But I can find it in file manager and device manager. It work fine for any file process.
I've got a really weird scenario: I've installed Vista on one of my partitions, after a few days it got corrupted, so i've installed another version on a different partition (different disk as well). I've since deleted the first vista installation. Now vista works perfectly on my other partition, no problems. However, when looking at the disk management I can see that the old vista partition's status is:" Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)" whereas my working vista partition is: "Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)" My vista partition is not a system partition. This causes some problems, as I can't format the old vista partition. Trying to disable the disk at startup and booting with the Vista DVD doesn't help (it recognizes some problem but when rebooting, nothing happens, no loading of anything). Is there a way to assign the 'System' attribute to another partition and/or to remove the 'System' attribute from a partition?
I have a Kodak CX7330. On my XP machine, I am able to select only those pictures that I want to transfer, I cannot find such an option on the Vista system.
I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second. I have tried all available options.
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
I use vista and windows mail. Whenever I receive an email with a link I cannot open the appropriate address by clicking the link. Evidently the link cannot recognize the address. I know it has worked in the past and I don't know what happened. I have tried to set windows mail the default mail but whenever I attempt to change a setting in the default menu, it just reverts back to original setting which is use present mail program. I am not sure if this is problem or not. Can anyone tell me what change I need to make in order to get my email links to work.
I have just bought a new vista pc and have connected it to a Linksys WRT54GC wireless router via ethernet. I have dropped all the security on the router and set the IPv4 ip and dns settings on the pc to that of the router, the pc having its own static ip with only the last octect being different.Network diagnosis states there is nothing wrong with the connection but i cannot display any web pages. The windows firewall is totally off and IPv6 is unticked(OFF).
i have an 8400 GS...quite a low card...but reasonable for web surfing and chatting...i just checked on the temps and it was 55 C...is this reasonable for an 8400 card? it has a fan on there..
I am using Windows Mail as my default mail client. After installing Office 2007 I opened Outlook 2007 for some reason and configured my mail account there. Since that time I am not able to search for mails using Vista Search. If Windows Mail is configured as standard mail application (has every standard) mails can be found, but not opened. An error message is displayed which tells me, that no standard mail client is available (in German: "Es ist kein standardm=E4=DFiger E-Mail-Client vorhanden, oder der aktuelle E-Mail-Client kann die Messaginganforderung nicht erf=FCllen..."). Then I configured Outlook as my standard mail client, which didn't solve my issue, because the message is not displayed any more, but the mail cann't be opened.
A friend of mine has Lenovo laptop that runs Vista Ultimate, the laptop itself is a little under a year old. Earlier this year, October-ish, she started her laptop to find the Cannot Find Operating System message. She took it to the tech department at the university we go too and they backed up all her info and had to reinstall Vista. We it has happened again. She said the recovery way didn't work and she had to reinstall Vista, this time losing all her pictures and everything.
What is causing this? I really want to make sure it doesn't happen a third time to her. I have read that some say it is the hard drive but I think if that was the case, she couldn't reinstall Vista or do anything to the laptop as the hard drive would be loose or fried.
Vista Home Premium 2. New system board and processor. Won't boot. An i7 950 and gigabyte board with high speed 1600 memory. Doing repair doesn't work. Reports something wron with system timings/speed etc. as well could be. Memory folks (OCR) ask me to run memtest400 (it passed all the vista diagnostics).
In install I go to command prompt and try to run mt400.exe. It says, "The system can not find the file." If I do dir e:mt400.exe it fins it just dandy. I tried copying it to a number of other places but get the same response. Even copied it to the loading directory under a number of folders. Now what? Is it impossible to run exe files in vista installer?
for find the drivers for Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697. i've checked at the toshiba site..but I cannot find it >.< i use windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit..

I have today installed home and student 2007 but cannot do very much with any of my current docs - i have had an error message that says there is a conflict
1. Can i save the docs, inlcuidng powerpoint presentations, i have created and use them as previously? 2. How do i resolve this conflict without loosing any of my docs?
My laptop is doing so weird and wild stuff, and I'd much rather take care of this problem myself (with the help of the internet, of course) than take it to a rotund egghead who will probably press three buttons, fix it completely, and charge me five hundred dollars. So here's the deal: First, when I was to click on, say, a Picture folder, the folder will load up but all the thumbnailed images of all my pictures will be the same stock Windows image. Like, I can't preview any of my pictures by looking at their thumbnails anymore. So that was a problem, and it's still a problem. Haven't fixed that one. Now recently, when I want to open a program, say Itunes or Firefox, instead of doing exactly that, it takes me to a Windows 'Open With' subscreen and asks me with WHICH program I'd like to open....the program I'd like to open. It's maddening.
My Macafee isn't opening any more. I just did a Dell System Update last night but it said it didn't find anything. I ran an Ad-Aware that didn't find anything. And to top it all off, for some reason my computer simply cannot check for new Windows Updates.I have no idea what's going on. Oh and if it matters my keyboard is all wonky. Not that that's an issue anybody here can help me with but I thought I'd mention it. My laptop is only a year or so old so I'm not sure why it's having all these issues. Oh and I don't know what kind of Vista I have. 32? 64? How do I find that out? heart and soul for any assistance anyone can give.
I'm trying to install the new win vista x64 os on to my new hard disk but during the installing ,it keep prompt me with this message " Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation. " The hard disk i uses is Hitachi Deskstar HDS721616PLAT80 ATA/IDE drive
I am presently using 96SE. my ISP no longer supports this version as do some programs....my unit is not powerful enough for either xp or vista I am in my eighties and some of my colleagues tell me that vista has a pretty high learning curve, have found both windows 95 and 95se very user friendly. I can get a new unit from Dell loaded with either XP or Vista, i would like to keep current but do not want to become overwhelmed by new technology. I am not a power user but did not find the older window operating system too challenging, the tasks i presently perform are pretty basic my question is given my age and experience level could i handle Vista or should i opt for the XP version.
My Windows Vista Enterprise has a serious problem. It is unable to find, delete, or create any system restore points. I have not found a way to re-initialize the system restore point process.
With all the previous versions of Windows, I could easily find the folder that stored the "cookies." Try as I may, I can't find it on Vista. I get the Windows Vista magazine and they printed the "route" you had to take, but it didn't work. Where is the cookie folder?
I saw a post here asking about where to find themes for VISTA. When I went to the suggested site, I saw what looks to me like different desktop background pictures and different window colors. I can do all that without added software
Just wondering if Vista has a zip utility? I know about Winzip, etc but XP had a zip utility with it, as did the other previous versions of Windows. I cannot find Vista's zip utility.
My company has a fax shared on one of the 2003 servers. When I print to this fax server in Windows XP the Fax Wizard walks me thru all the necesarry screens and remembers my Delivery Notification settings, i.e. whether I want a notification, the email address I want the notification sent to and the attach a copy of the fax to the notification.
All of these settings I can find in the XP Registry at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftFaxUserInfoReceiptEMail(dword), ReceiptAttachFax(dword) and ReceiptAddress(string). However, I cannot find these same settings in Vista Registry. I can set these each time I send a fax in Vista under ToolsOptions, but it is a pain to have to set these everytime I send a fax in Vista. Where can I find the equivalent Vista Registry values?
I just switched from XP Pro to Vista Business. My XP had movie maker which I used a lot. Now I cannot find movie maker in Vista. Did I not load movie maker correctly or does it not come in business version?
I need to read an email from sometime ago. In XP I know where the .dbx files are. I can't find them in Vista 64. Are the still here or are the something else.I have unchecked hide protected bits and bobs.
I keep an empty folder on my desktop to hold files I have downloaded until I can work on them or for temporary storage etc. With xp this folder's toolbar had an "X" icon for deleting any highlighted files. For some reason I can't find this in Vista.
I can't connect to internet by Windows Vista. I tried to establish a dial-up connection, but Windows Vista can't find the modem. Even by giving the dial-up number and other login info, I can't connect to internet. Vista and XP are on different local disk and I can contact you with XP. I'm not sure what the modem is exactly (broadband, WWIS, DSL, etc.), it's a phone line modem with a speed of 56 kbps.
I am not a native english speaker, so don't hate me for language problems. So, the problem I have here is that Windows Vista does not find any DRM protected music files I have. I am a new Napster Flatrate To-Go user. I can download alot of albums, but of course they are DRM protected, which is not a problem for me. But what is an problem for me is, that any downloaded files won't be found by the index. The music files of Napster are stored in my music folder (C:Users...Music), so the indexer should find them. Any other music I had (non DRM protected files) can be found easily via the Startmenu, the search dialog and Windows Media Player. The DRM protected files can't be found, except than in Windows Media Player. I already deleted the old index-cache and created a new one, but that didn't help either. Anyone else with this problem? Or a solution maybe? Or is this a general "bug" in Windows Vista?
