Hi, can anybody advise,i get this popup box only when i plug in a flash drive, or external hard drive, it doesent seem to bother the programs and i cant remove it from the screen untill i remove the external hardrives and then restart the computer i have widows vista premium 32-bit.

This has become very annoying as i am trying to clean up old files on my computer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a relatively unexperienced windows vista user using windows home premium at 32 bit on an acer aspire 6920 notebook. I noticed that occassionaly my disk space would drop dramatically without me doing anything. 100s of mbs would just disappear for no reason, so probably being stupid i decided to run the disk fragmenter to try and fix the problem. BUT to my horror i was shocked to find that the disk fragmenter began to eat up my hard disk space big style. I went from 79.7GB to 72.5GB in just over an hour. What the hell happened and can it be fixed? can i get my disk space back? i thought the disk fragmenter was supposed to help your computer not rob it. does anyone else have this problem and can someone please help me? im kinda desparate, i cant believe it.

My max display resolution is 1280x800 (fujitsu generic monitor), and it seems I can't see the bottom of the popup where you change/edit signatures. Isn't there supposed to be somewhere in these options where you can click an OK or apply button?

To get it to work correctly I had to check 'run as administrator'.
How do I now get the program to be a 'known' and 'trusted' program?
Creative register popup keeps on comimg up after I uninstalled all my Creative products also a popup (gentle reminder) keeps poping up.Is there any way to stop this and how does happen even after uninstall?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAdobe Flash is not working in any of the programs that use it unless I run the program as administrator, then it works fine. However, I do not want to be forever having to run all my programs as administrator because either I have to right click and do it, or set it to run as administrator which means I get the popup from UAC. I didn't have flash installed. I have tried all the solutions offered on the adobe site several times and none of them will work.

It appears in different places on the screen depending on application, for example while starting Total Commander with administrator's right the UAC window appears at the left low corner, Symantec Endpoint Protection - at the middle of the screen's bottom. It's not a big problem of course, but maybe it is possible to fix such behavior?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently got a new motherboard processor etc, and so i had to reinstall vista, well, i decided to go ahead and up to x64 so i backed up my hard drive under my current ultimate32bit and then formatted and installed ultimate64. So i thought i'd do a restore of my drive's backup, so i popped in my install disc, clicked repair comp, clicked restore a backup, chose the backup i wanted, confirmed, then a box popped that said basically, "The windows restore has failed. This backup can be restored on this computer. Please use the correct Windows Recovery Envirnment (x64) WinRE."
View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP my cousin ended up with an infestation of spyware and adware after AVG ran out and it stopped updating.I installed AVG 8.5 ran a scan, it disinfected winlogon.exe and then blue screened. After a reboot and another scan winlogon.exe was no longer infected but other files were. It seems to have disinfected them. The only thing left is a popup that comes up everytime IE is started. I can't figure out what is causing it. I ran ad aware - it disposed of a few things but he still gets that popup when IE starts.

Whenever I update one and then try to save I get a popup that it is trying to save to "c" with the name Copy Of filename. Not what I want but figure I can always rename it, but when I click Save I get a popup telling me "A required permission is not held by the client". I am the only user of this PC and am the adminstrator. I have read thru several post here that talk about UAC and have right clicked on the files and went to the security tab and assigned full rights for every user listed but it still wont let me save the file after making changes

I run a little website which has a popup survey on it. one of my colleagues was just testing it and said that the popup is no longer appearing. On further investigation, her Popup Blocker was on (despite her never changing the settings herself) and the popup was fine. However, our statistics show a dramatic fall in the number of people filling out the survey over the last week, and a high percentage of our customers are IE7 users. My theory is that Microsoft have recently released an IE7 update that resets your Popup Blocker to "on", meaning that no-one can see my survey any more.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron 1545 notebook running Vista Home Premium. Automatic Updates is "on". I suspect this is not strictly a Vista problem, but the user base may know of a solution. I also suspect the problem is with a Dell-specific service or application but that may be supported by underlying Vista services. I find references to a similar service for HP notebooks. When I got my computer about 6 weeks ago, a transparent popup would appear briefly and then disappear when the caps lock key was toggled. It indicated the new state of the key and an icon was also placed in the Notification Area when the state was "locked". A similar action took place if I toggled the "radio" button (F2) and a battery information window appeared it the "battery" key (F3) was pressed.
That worked for a week or so, then stopped working. I did many searches on The Internet and in the Dell Community Forums for a solution. No joy. Then one day, it mysteriously started working again. It worked for 3 days which spanned several times when the computer went into standby and when it went into hibernation each evening. A series of security updates came down from Microsoft which required reboot. The popups went away and in many more hours of research, I have been unable to find a solution....
I reinstalled my Windows Vista Home Premium, but now it says my key isn't valid. So I kind of ignored it for a while, but now I get that tiny text in the lower-right corner, and the Aero theme is gone. I tried to solve it with that pop up I got. I had to type 9 keys of 6 numbers in my telephone, and I got a key back. That 'woman' on the telephone said we were going to activate my XP?) After that it said my Windows was activated. So I clicked on Close, and I kept getting that popup and messages.

The popup says "Installing Acrobat setup files" with a small computer icon to the left and a cancel button down bottom. Also there is a blue status bar in the middle of the popup. Usually i just cancel the popup, but if i let it run the popup starts to install some kind of acrobat files. When done it asks to reboot.

When I click on newsgroups I get the same message and have to answer and when I click back to my inbox I get the popup question again and I have to click it repeatedly. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy son got duped by a fake anti-virus popup scam. He followed some directions that included restarting computer, when it rebooted almost all icons in the tray were gone. It removed my Verizon security suite, will not let me access any windows security features, will not let me download any of the free a/v-a/spyware recommended by other posters in this sys security forum. It won't let me uninstall ANY programs. It pops up every 3-4 mins declaring Internet explorer has a worm trying to access my credit card info or with a list of all these other infections,it's relentless. It will not let me use Firefox. It added it's own icon in my tray and calls itself System Security. It blocks any attempt to use/download anything to use against it whether it's windows defender/malware remover or commercial products. What the hell!!? Anyone heard of this particular level of scam and take over of computer function? Any ideas to defeat it? Using Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's my new Sony ebook reader. It works fine on my old XP pc but not my Vista Home Premium laptop. I don't know how reformatting an actual reader would affect the device since every one at the Sony forum has only reformat their memory from the actual reader that has a reformat memory, you lose your books but all the Sony applications that runs the reader are still intact. Since I got this error, I've reformatted via the actual reader and still every time I plug my reader in my USB port, I get this error. I'm scared if I say yes that all the applications that makes the reader works will be wiped out. Here is the thread in the Sony Reader Forum of them trying to help me. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista home premium 64 bit with the latest SP. I just installed an old game (Sniper Elite) and after installation it asked for a reboot. I did this and got the message that windows couldn't start, this could be down to a change recently made etc etc. It then said to fix it
1- insert windows disk and reboot
2- select language and click next
3- Choose repair my computer
I did this but when I clicked repair my computer it didn't show any OS in the box to repair! It just says "If you did not see your OS in the list, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard disk"
I have Vista Home Basic, and i have decided to reinstall windows, start with a clean slate so to speak. However when it reinstalled, it just installed another version of vista in the same drive. How do i clean the drive and then install windows? Giving major problems as my computer is now running on low disk space!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased the business version of vista from Windows marketplace, then I performed an anytime upgrade to Ultimate, now I would like to change to vista 64 but I don't have a disk and I am not sure that my current key will work. I called Microsoft about obtaining alternate media (64 bit disk) however they informed me that I couldn't get a dish through the alternate media plan because I bought from marketplace and not a retail canter. This is nuts to me. There must be some reasonable way to get a 64 bit disk in which my key will work without purchasing an entirely new version of vista. I mean dang I paid a ton for this, and now with me still playing fair they won't send me a 64 bit disk or let me purchase one for a minimal fee.

View 5 Replies View Relatedthe problem is with the compaq presario F500 which i gave as a gift to my cousin, unfortunately neither of made a recovery disk in the begining, later on his computer crashed and he brought it to me, now i dont have recovery disk neither have a recovery partion, i intalled a new windows and also activated it, is there anyway i can create a recovery disk or somehow i can use the windows data to create a recovery partition so in future we dont need to find the drivers and everything from scratch.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe wife has a box with 64bit Vista and someone ran a registery cleaner on it and cleaned the registery so clean that the system would not start windows. It went through the screen that gave the choices for set-up, recovery, etc then the safe, normal, etc start screen and regardless of what chose it would go dark and windows would never start but the activity light would keep flickering showing it was trying to do something. I took it in and repair used the recovery disk to set it back to factory setup!! :-(Is it possible to make a to make a recovery disk (as the factory labeled it) of the way I get it set that would be like the factory recovery disk which has a rcd.dat file and an image directory on disk 1 and a rcd2.dat file and an image directory on disk 2 so if the thing crashed again at the startup options screen that has the recovery option I could just use my home made recovery disk instead of the factory ones??
I know I can make a backup but if the system will not get past the screen with the recovery option what good are they. Will accept any comments on backups as long as I can also get an answer to the original recovery disk question also. Would be nice if I could do this on wife Vista box AND my XP box.
