Mar 23, 2008Can password storage program that is safe to download? I tried the free Access Manager download but the popup warning from Microsoft scared me into not running it.

UAC Warning: WKUpdate.exe Wants To Access
Apr 28, 2008I just built this PC, installed Vista and also MS Works 2001. I keep getting a flashing UAC warning in the task bar that WKUpdate.exe wants to access my computer. I can click allow or deny, and it keeps coming back, no option to add to trusted users. I am about ready to turn UAC off anyway.

Apr 30, 2009Utorrent keeps not responding after like 3 hours of running. I close it but it the task manager, it says its still running with *32 next to it. So does IE when I close that. They close visualy, but they dont close in the task manager and keep running. I cant open a new Utorrent because it says its still running. I havto keep restarting my computer. Its a new computer (only like a week old) so WTF do I do? I have the 64 bit vista. Looks as tho no 32 bit program gets terminated (or atleast the ones with the *32 next to them. WTF do I do?

May 15, 2010In Xp when I used the task manger it told me how much CPU is being used. this was very helpful because if one particular process was taking up to much power I ended task.
Yet in Vista x32, even when the cpu is going at full pelt, it only register a few % on the odd program. Something is running, but I do not know what. This has been an ongoing problem for years, and I have installed and reinstalled, and run ant viuses and malware and root kits. Yet when running fully loaded, it never shows what is running, even when showing all users.
My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1720.
I would be grateful if somebody could shed so light on this upgrade from Xp.

Dec 20, 2008After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.

Mar 5, 2010I am experiencing a number of Reliability and Performance Logs, and Task Scheduling issues and difficulties.
In trying to troubleshoot the problems, I have started with the Task Manager, as it is clearly not performing at all.
First, before starting this process, I created a new Restore Point.
Then, at Start>Help and Support>Select, ?Troubleshooting>in Search Help box type, Troubleshoot Task Manager>Select, How do I enable Task Manager if it has been disabled. ....I end up with this set of troubleshooting instructions;
Using Administrator Rights, I am able to navigate down to Step 3 of the instructions,[see string in bottom panel] here;
Before going further, per the instructions, I saved a copy of the Registry Key to a hard-drive.
With that done, I tried to double click on System, but nothing happens! Disable TaskMgr does not come up to allow me to continue with the troubleshooting process.
CBS File " Access Denied " After Running Sfc/scannow
Jun 15, 2009I ran sfc/scannow in administrator mode and it said it had found some corrupt files that it was unable to fix. I opened the C:WindowsLogsCBS directory and it contained 5 files: CBS,CBS.persist,CheckSUR,CheckSUR.persist and Filterlist. I attempted to open CBS but a message says " Access is denied ". The same applied to CBS.persist. I am able to open CheckSUR, CheckSUR.persist and Filterlist. Upon opening properties on these three files the date created, modified and accessed is May-28-09. The dates for CBS are as follows: Created: November-27-08; Modified: June-15-09; Accessed: May-31-09. The dates for CBS.persist are: Created: November-27-08; Modified May-31-09; Accessed:November-27-08. The CBS file is apparently 15.7 MB and the CBS.persist file is 50.2 MB. access the relevant CBS file?

Can't See The Bottom Of The Popup
Apr 13, 2009My max display resolution is 1280x800 (fujitsu generic monitor), and it seems I can't see the bottom of the popup where you change/edit signatures. Isn't there supposed to be somewhere in these options where you can click an OK or apply button?

However, I do not want to be forever having to run all my programs as administrator because either I have to right click and do it, or set it to run as administrator which means I get the popup from UAC. I didn't have flash installed. I have tried all the solutions offered on the adobe site several times and none of them will work.

So i thought i'd do a restore of my drive's backup, so i popped in my install disc, clicked repair comp, clicked restore a backup, chose the backup i wanted, confirmed, then a box popped that said basically, "The windows restore has failed. May 1, 2009Running Windows XP my cousin ended up with an infestation of spyware and adware after AVG ran out and it stopped updating.I installed AVG 8.5 ran a scan, it disinfected winlogon.exe and then blue screened. After a reboot and another scan winlogon.exe was no longer infected but other files were. It seems to have disinfected them. The only thing left is a popup that comes up everytime IE is started. I can't figure out what is causing it. I ran ad aware - it disposed of a few things but he still gets that popup when IE starts.

Whenever I update one and then try to save I get a popup that it is trying to save to "c" with the name Copy Of filename. Not what I want but figure I can always rename it, but when I click Save I get a popup telling me "A required permission is not held by the client". I am the only user of this PC and am the adminstrator. IE7 Update: Switched On Popup Blocker
Feb 25, 2009I run a little website which has a popup survey on it. one of my colleagues was just testing it and said that the popup is no longer appearing. On further investigation, her Popup Blocker was on (despite her never changing the settings herself) and the popup was fine. However, our statistics show a dramatic fall in the number of people filling out the survey over the last week, and a high percentage of our customers are IE7 users. My theory is that Microsoft have recently released an IE7 update that resets your Popup Blocker to "on", meaning that no-one can see my survey any more.

Oct 21, 2009Dell Inspiron 1545 notebook running Vista Home Premium. Automatic Updates is "on". I suspect this is not strictly a Vista problem, but the user base may know of a solution. I also suspect the problem is with a Dell-specific service or application but that may be supported by underlying Vista services. I find references to a similar service for HP notebooks. When I got my computer about 6 weeks ago, a transparent popup would appear briefly and then disappear when the caps lock key was toggled. It indicated the new state of the key and an icon was also placed in the Notification Area when the state was "locked". A similar action took place if I toggled the "radio" button (F2) and a battery information window appeared it the "battery" key (F3) was pressed.
That worked for a week or so, then stopped working. I did many searches on The Internet and in the Dell Community Forums for a solution. No joy. Then one day, it mysteriously started working again. It worked for 3 days which spanned several times when the computer went into standby and when it went into hibernation each evening. A series of security updates came down from Microsoft which required reboot. The popups went away and in many more hours of research, I have been unable to find a solution....

So I kind of ignored it for a while, but now I get that tiny text in the lower-right corner, and the Aero theme is gone. I tried to solve it with that pop up I got. I had to type 9 keys of 6 numbers in my telephone, and I got a key back. That 'woman' on the telephone said we were going to activate my XP?) After that it said my Windows was activated. May 29, 2009My son got duped by a fake anti-virus popup scam. He followed some directions that included restarting computer, when it rebooted almost all icons in the tray were gone. It removed my Verizon security suite, will not let me access any windows security features, will not let me download any of the free a/v-a/spyware recommended by other posters in this sys security forum. It won't let me uninstall ANY programs. It pops up every 3-4 mins declaring Internet explorer has a worm trying to access my credit card info or with a list of all these other infections,it's relentless. It will not let me use Firefox. It added it's own icon in my tray and calls itself System Security. It blocks any attempt to use/download anything to use against it whether it's windows defender/malware remover or commercial products. What the hell!!? Anyone heard of this particular level of scam and take over of computer function? Any ideas to defeat it? Using Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Feb 17, 2009Vista Ultimate with all the latest service packs and updates install, then installed IE8 RC1.
Installed Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 and had the following
problems.
(1) Windows would not restart.
(2) required going through Safe Mode startup to get Windows to finish installation.
(3) after rebooting several times, finally got it going.
(4) Aero was turned off after all of this.
Not sure if it was a remnant of Safe Mode or from IE8 RC1.
Note: If you have to reboot, then turn off the PC. Unplug the PC or turn the power switch off on the back of the PC on the power supply. Sometimes just using the buttons on the front of the PC does not remove all power and thus all facilities.
I have seen this many times; demanding a complete power removal before the PC would restart properly.

Mar 23, 2008My father and brother both use internet mail and when they send any emails on to me in Vista mail I don't get the attachments (one was a .wmv ext) As far as I know I have checked/unchecked ALL the correct boxes in the mail options and my Avast online scanner settings and still I don't get the pictures intended or the attachments. I have removed Norton, checked my firewall settings and still nothing!
