I have a mapped drive on a NAS that has all my downloaded software on it. When I run one of the installers it always asks for a login. What gives? I'm already logged into the drive. Why is it asking for login again? How do I stop this annoying behaviour?

The hard drives shut down after fifteen minutes. My computer buddy says that, since there are no moving parts, then it should be no problem leaving it running. Is this true or false?

whenever i download an .exe program or .msi installer vista shows: iTunes installer for example, but occurs with all downloaded files. However programs i already had on my hdd install fine. I have not yet had time to test a 64 bit native app to see if it installs fine, but all the programs i try and fail to run once downloaded are on the compatibility list.

On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
It just happened now, after almost 2 years. When I open WM, it asks for my username and password, every time. Before I do a system restore, I 'd like to know if there is reason for that, and if there is another way to fix this annoyance.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my grandmas computer, I created a 2nd account and made it the admin account. At some point, this account somehow became a standard account and now there is no admin. Now whenever I try 2 do nething, it asks for the admin password but the area where you would enter the password and the OK key are greyed out. ive tryed a few things I thaut of and a few things from other sites including starting in safe mode and reinstalling vista completely, of course reinstalling didnt work because it needs permission to run. Ive posted on like 5 forums and asked all my friends and no1 has a clue how to fix this or even how its posible so if ne1 has ne idea wat 2 do.

Winrar says I don't have the rights to do so and won't let me tell it to do anything. 7zip acts as if it is working but the file never extracts. If I open up the folder to extract to and drag the files from the zipper program it asks for permission and will complete the task. how to tell Vista to allow extractions from winrar or 7zip

I'm trying to use Vista Backup & Restore to backup the laptop to the external HDD. When I try to set it up, the program finds the disk alright. But then it asks for a user & password. What user & password? I tried with all the PW's and users I have on the two computers, but nothing works.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install a printer on machine 2 from machine 1. The printer is shared. Same workgroup The same logon information on both machines, user and password the same. When I log onto machine 1 it won't let me print. It tells me I don't have access or the print spooler is not running.. If I go to network places on machine 1 and click on machine 2 it asks for the user name and password. I enter the same information I entered when I logged onto machine 1 and after this I have connectivity and am able to print.

I have removed my e-mailaccounts and reset them. I have reinstalled Norton and nothing works. Everytime I want receive and/or send mail, Windows Mail asks for my username and password. Even when Norton wasn't installed Windows Mail didn't remember, so I don't think Norton is causing this problem.

When I click on newsgroups I get the same message and have to answer and when I click back to my inbox I get the popup question again and I have to click it repeatedly. It asks if it should dial another connection that is no longer on the computer. How can I kill this damned message? I switched to Live Mail but it does the same thing with that so I'm back with mail.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got an Adobe Master Suite Collection CS3 Extended (AMSC CS3 Ext) installed on my computer. I have windows vista ultimate 64-bit OS. Now i very new to this blog so bare with me. If this problem has a solution. Anyways all of the programs (within AMSC CS3 Ext) run fine on my computer except (cue dramatic music) Photoshop CS3! Now i dont get an error or any kind of error when i installed the program but when i start the program it does like its going to start up and its loading the tools and stuff but when it gets to "Building TWAIN menu items" it turns a transparent white and says there is a problem and Photoshop cs3 has stopped working and then sadly asks to close the program. I can no longer locate that old XP disk, and now I cannot install the newversion! I tried removing some references to Office 10 in the registry,but that didn't help. How can I remove the constant "nagging" and install the new software?
In trying to install Java 6 u18 I started getting the message. THIS ACTION ONLY VALID FOR PRODUCTS CURRENTLY INSTALLED At that point Java, which had always worked, stopped working. After reading this forum I downloaded the Windows Install Cleanup and removed the Java 6 u18 from the list of installed products.
Java does not appear in the Control Panel under Programs, the registry has no Java 6.18 remnants I can see and Java does not appear in the Windows Install Cleanup list. Yet when I re-download Java, as soon as the install starts it says
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with 4gb of Ram and 200 GB of free space. I have installed Vista Business 64, and added recommended patches. It also has Office 2007. I am trynig to install SQL server 2008 express. A prereq for this is the 4.5 installer. Whenever I run the install I get two messages: Setup Error, Not enough storage is available to process this command. Then "Installation did not complete" In the application log the Event ID is 4373. I have space, ram, I am logged in as an administrator, and it is a clean build.

I approached other Tech sites and was told to use a program, basically now I cannot install any program, and I receive the error concerning windows installer... "The Windows Installer could not be accessed" I attempted re-install the installer on the Microsoft website, but it gave me the "Not enough memory to process this action"
I've spent countless hours troubleshooting and yeah... I'm just tired of it. Preferably I'd restore to a previous system restore point, but I get the memory error with that... so yeah, no luck with anything.
I have a new HP computer and recently every time I boot up the computer, a windows installer window pops-up and tried to install a program (it doesn't state the program name) but stops at the stage when it searches for an installation CD, as I don't have the computer's installation CD (the computer comes with no installation CD and all installation info is backed-up in the secured drive D). However, considering efficiency and reliability, would I be better off downloading the standalone installer (using another faster connection elsewhere) and bringing the download on a flash drive to my computer? Is this standalone installer much bigger, containing irrelevant stuff, than what Windows Update would eventually supply me with (since I'm current with all previous updates)?
