I opened a folder and because it had multiple repeat messages I clicked on one (I think) to delete it and the whole folder disappeared. I looked in the deleted items folder. It wasn't there. I looked in the Recycle Bin and it wasn't there so I lost all the legit messages I had in that folder.
View 5 RepliesHave been using Vista about 18 months and have never found a cure for this problem: when the computer goes to sleep, the settings for 'repeat delay' and 'repeat rate' are erased. Typing slows down to a crawl, and I have to reset them every time I wake up the computer (I've added a quick link to Keyboard Properties because I know I'll use it at least once a day). Why hasn't there been a fix for this? I know I'm not the only one complaining.

Some of my file associations seem to have disappeared and i am being told to reset them in the control panel - that bit is easy enough but i'm having trouble setting them for actual folders, i can't open the folder just by clicking on it, i have to right click and then select open. i have spent hours trying to find a way to set the association for the folder but no luck - i dont know if this makes any difference but the folder i am trying to open, i marked as hidden. once i openiit with the right click everything else seems to be ok.
My Documents folder(My Document) juzt disapeared. who can help me restore or recover it in any possible way. I´m runing a Vista home basic laptop but i´m sure i didnt delete these neither maybe someone did but i dont know how these culd suddenly disappear. I´m having AVG dailly auto update and scan so i hafly ruled out the virus inffection. I tried almost everything, to restore, regedit, undelete, but nothing help but through these i only happen to get the folder itsself but but the files in it still at large...The othe thing is when i got the folder but it suddenly duplicate and name the other folder Document145.. Now what does that mean again?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI uploaded 285 pics to a subfolder in the "Pictures" folder and my Pictures folder disappeared. I couldn't access it through the start menu, and an advanced search did not show any of my pics. I re-established the Pictures folder by "adding" it through the WIndoiws Photo Gallery program (all of the sample pics appeared too) but my subfolder is GONE. I KNOW I did NOT delete this folder. I tried a system restore - no luck. This is a brand new laptop and I am the only user.
I used a restore program at recuva.com - it couldn't find my pics but another one called "Easy Drive Data Recovery" shows them. In order to access them though, I would have to pay over $70. I don't think I should have to pay as these files were not deleted at all. I beleive they are still there - but Vista is ignoring them somehow. I need help here ... any good freeware recover programs out there? Anyone know how I can convince the system that the subfolder still exists again?
I'm new here so excuse me if I make any mistakes, but suddenly, I've noticed that my folders inside %ProgramData% are not showing properly, it wasn't like this before and I'd really like to have this solved because this irritates me. I've already tried selecting "Show filenames" in the context menu but this option is not available in this map. And all my other folders are showing the files properly.

Under earlier versions you had the option of keeping messages in the delete folder when existing. I can't find that option in the current version of Windows Mail.
View 4 Replies View Relatedjust downloaded IE8, and now, seemingly randomly, I can't access my Favorites from the altC or altA bar whatsoever. even more odd, the Favorites folder has disappeared from My Documents (i reassiged the location to a backup drive previously, but that is still there). when I try to bookmark something (ctrlD, or click add to favorites) absolutely nothing happens.. no popup, no nothing.
i've tried several things already from changing downloading the fix_fav_il prompt, to resetting folder properties, etc. and i tried uninstalling/reinstalling IE8 already, which didn't help anything nothing seems to work. I feel like if the Favorites folder would reappear in MyDocuments, I might be able to figure something out, but it just won't come back!
I'd like to be able to select multiple files like I used to without using the check boxes.

Is it held in my 'Private' file folder/ or is it an entity of it's own on the hard drive? View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I turned my computer on today it seems that all of my filenames have 'disappeared' - the files are still called the same that I named them, but instead of them showing the titles, they either show the date modified or only certain details. I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:
As you can see, on the left in the folder tree, the path is showing up, the files are still there etc, but instead of the track titles, there is now only the artist and album? I have tried shift and view, tried different views, tried changing the folder view to pictures and videos etc, I have also completely scanned the drives and there doesn't seem to be any problems? Under 'folder options' I have tried showing all extensions etc, showing hidden files, different customizing of views:...........
The Search item has disappeared from the right pane of my Startup Menu. I have no idea how I lost it, but it was there when I first got my computer (Vaio, running Vista Home Premium). I now have to go to Help & Support to get access to it. I use the Advanced Search facility, so I can't just open up any folder. Does anyone know how to pin it back onto the Start Menu? I've even tried going to Open Taskbar & Start Menu properties and selecting Use Default Settings on the Start tab - no luck!

View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay, here it goes. I first started using Windows Mail when I bought a new computer with Windows Vista back in January '09. I have four email accounts which I transferred over from an Outlook Express backup that I did before getting rid of my old computer. Windows Mail automatically set up a set of folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail) for each account, each with a different color scheme, similar to Windows Live Mail. My hard drive crashed in June and I'm just now setting things up again with the new hard drive installed. I tried restoring my email accounts from a backup I had but now Windows Mail won't automatically create folders for each account. Instead, I had to set up separate Inbox folders with message rules for each account. However, all the accounts are still sharing the Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail folders. Is there a way to set up a set of these folders for each account using message rules? And also, why did Windows Mail do that automatically for me the first time using it - could it be that the information came from an Outlook Express backup originally?

First of all I would like to say I love this forum if it wasn't for this forum my Desktop/HDtv(as my monitor) would have a keyboard stuck in it. Why you might ask, well I was stuck on "Updates Configuring 3 of 3 - 0% // then Shutdown" and repeat. Also I'm a new Vista owner and so far its been shaky but I plan on over coming it. NOW!, To why I'm here, I keep my desktop empty and use the Dell Dock (Mac style Dock that came with my Dell). I cleaned out and disabled most of the stuff on the startup I don't need. So the problem I'm having is that the Dell Dock is the last thing to load after my antivirus and firewall and spyware programs. My question is, is there anyway to make the Dell Dock load first? Is there anyway to do this even with registry hacking? I want the Dell Dock to load up before most of the other startup programs.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAm sending messages that are not being received - it is not every message, and not to the same person (and no message that it could not be delivered!). I normally find out when I have not received an cknowledgement, or a reply, and I ring to find out why.
Second problem is that not all messages appear in the "sent" folder. Seems to be a random problem - not address related (ie messages sent to the same organisation - some appear in the sent folder, some do not).
Am using Vista Home Premium, with Avast.
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?
I have recently encountered a situation where sent messages randomly are not put into the Sent Items folder of Windows Mail even though that option is checked in my Options settings. This problem never occurred until about two days ago. I have unchecked and rechecked this option and rebooted the PC, but no resolution.
As I said it occurs randomly, but more often than not. For example, I can send several test messages to the same receipient that correctly get put into the Sent Items folder, and then without changing any settings whatsoever one to the same receipient does not get placed there.
I can receive messages but I can not send. I've tryed everything but no result.

When trying to open or delete some messages in WM, I am receiving an error message telling me "an unexpected error has been encountered." The error message states that there is a problem with memory or the disk being full. My computer is fairly new so I can't imagine that I have even come close to filling my memory.

I keep getting 42 messages trying to come through and they get stuck on message 28. I then get a message saying 'client connected' and I can never retrieve the other messages. I then cannot delete the first 27 messages. Do I have a virus or something or what is happening?

I turned off my antivurs program Avast to see if this helps. I also turned off "Defender" and any thing that looks like a firewall.But The problem persists. It works about 70% of the time. It is very unpredictable.
