I uploaded 285 pics to a subfolder in the "Pictures" folder and my Pictures folder disappeared. I couldn't access it through the start menu, and an advanced search did not show any of my pics. I re-established the Pictures folder by "adding" it through the WIndoiws Photo Gallery program (all of the sample pics appeared too) but my subfolder is GONE. I KNOW I did NOT delete this folder. I tried a system restore - no luck. This is a brand new laptop and I am the only user.
I used a restore program at recuva.com - it couldn't find my pics but another one called "Easy Drive Data Recovery" shows them. In order to access them though, I would have to pay over $70. I don't think I should have to pay as these files were not deleted at all. I beleive they are still there - but Vista is ignoring them somehow. I need help here ... any good freeware recover programs out there? Anyone know how I can convince the system that the subfolder still exists again?
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?
I have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images
I don't know how this happened, but I didn't do it myself. For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.
This has happened to me before - somehow the folder formats change themselves, eg the documents folder has options along the top like 'organise' 'view''slideshow' and 'burn' ie like in the pictures folder. I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.
i'm using vista 64bit. Some of my file associations seem to have disappeared and i am being told to reset them in the control panel - that bit is easy enough but i'm having trouble setting them for actual folders, i can't open the folder just by clicking on it, i have to right click and then select open. i have spent hours trying to find a way to set the association for the folder but no luck - i dont know if this makes any difference but the folder i am trying to open, i marked as hidden. once i openiit with the right click everything else seems to be ok.
My Documents folder(My Document) juzt disapeared. who can help me restore or recover it in any possible way. I´m runing a Vista home basic laptop but i´m sure i didnt delete these neither maybe someone did but i dont know how these culd suddenly disappear. I´m having AVG dailly auto update and scan so i hafly ruled out the virus inffection. I tried almost everything, to restore, regedit, undelete, but nothing help but through these i only happen to get the folder itsself but but the files in it still at large...The othe thing is when i got the folder but it suddenly duplicate and name the other folder Document145.. Now what does that mean again?
I'm new here so excuse me if I make any mistakes, but suddenly, I've noticed that my folders inside %ProgramData% are not showing properly, it wasn't like this before and I'd really like to have this solved because this irritates me. I've already tried selecting "Show filenames" in the context menu but this option is not available in this map. And all my other folders are showing the files properly.
my "Pictures" folder, the whole thing, not just the contents got moved to the Music section. I guess I accidently dragged it there or something. I noticed it, wondered it something was wrong. So, I clicked on the start orb and clicked on my pictures. It was still there. So, I deleted the folder that was in my music section and now the whole pictures folder is gone. I tried the "shell:mypictures, but here's the thing... it seems it creating the folder on my DESKTOP. I do NOT want it there. When I delete the folder from my desktop, this is the message it gives me
just downloaded IE8, and now, seemingly randomly, I can't access my Favorites from the altC or altA bar whatsoever. even more odd, the Favorites folder has disappeared from My Documents (i reassiged the location to a backup drive previously, but that is still there). when I try to bookmark something (ctrlD, or click add to favorites) absolutely nothing happens.. no popup, no nothing.
i've tried several things already from changing downloading the fix_fav_il prompt, to resetting folder properties, etc. and i tried uninstalling/reinstalling IE8 already, which didn't help anything nothing seems to work. I feel like if the Favorites folder would reappear in MyDocuments, I might be able to figure something out, but it just won't come back!
Vista Home Premium will not allow me to acces the applications/my Pictures folder, i get an access denied message, how do I get around this, or save screenshots to a different location?
When i view my user folder (whihc has documents, music, pictures, ect), my pictures folder is the old Biege folder icon, while all the others are the clear-glass blue folders. I know its really not that big of a deal but its annoying me. How can i get that folder icon back?
I'm trying to arrange my picture folders, spatially, in a particular way (which is no problem at all on our main PC, with Windows XP. Everything stays just where I left it).On my laptop ,Vista can't seem to remember my arrangement, and if I change something like size of icon, it reverts to a block of folders, undoing everything. What am I doing wrong?
I wish to order image files in a folder in a certain way (ie not alphabetic or chronologic). I can drag and drop pictures into the preferred order, but I am not sure how to ensure the permanence of that re-ordering. Also, I would like to be able to copy these images (in there new order) to either a new folder or to a CD.
I opened a folder and because it had multiple repeat messages I clicked on one (I think) to delete it and the whole folder disappeared. I looked in the deleted items folder. It wasn't there. I looked in the Recycle Bin and it wasn't there so I lost all the legit messages I had in that folder.
When I turned my computer on today it seems that all of my filenames have 'disappeared' - the files are still called the same that I named them, but instead of them showing the titles, they either show the date modified or only certain details. I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:
As you can see, on the left in the folder tree, the path is showing up, the files are still there etc, but instead of the track titles, there is now only the artist and album? I have tried shift and view, tried different views, tried changing the folder view to pictures and videos etc, I have also completely scanned the drives and there doesn't seem to be any problems? Under 'folder options' I have tried showing all extensions etc, showing hidden files, different customizing of views:...........
The Search item has disappeared from the right pane of my Startup Menu. I have no idea how I lost it, but it was there when I first got my computer (Vaio, running Vista Home Premium). I now have to go to Help & Support to get access to it. I use the Advanced Search facility, so I can't just open up any folder. Does anyone know how to pin it back onto the Start Menu? I've even tried going to Open Taskbar & Start Menu properties and selecting Use Default Settings on the Start tab - no luck!
I am running a Vista 64-bit platform with a VMware guest, using Vista 32-bit. Although I have Windows Defender running in the guest system, I have not had any anti-virus software (I use McAfee on the host system). Last night, I downloaded and installed the AVG-free anti-virus software for the guest system. It was working as intended when I shut down the computer.
This morning, in booting to the guest system, there is no AVG software in sight. The downloadable program from AVG is not even found in the Downloads folder! Windows Defender is still operable, and telling me that I do not have an anti-virus program installed.
I backed up my files onto CD (work files). Made a number of CDs. I'm on dell inspiron 9300, w/ xp and did an upgrade to vista using an in place install. My understanding was that the programs AND files were to be carried over onto the new OS. All of my programs and applications stayed. But my files...gone! can't find any of them. And all but one of my CDs are good--except that for some reason the most important files are in an empty folder on one of the CDs, many months worth of work related documents- I must have messed it up when backing it up. Is there anyway to find the files that vista was supposed to keep? I picked up an external hard drive today when I realized how little space I had left but not soon enough to use it to back up before.
while surfing online i was looking into some language converter tools when my system hanged.. i manually shut down the system by holding the power button.. But since then on starting, my desktop and taskbar have disappeared.. however m able to access everything from task manager..
I looked onto 1 of the treads which had the solution to such a problem and changed the value of shell in the registry to explorer.exe.. However even then my desktop is not appearing on start up .. Only when i start a new process from task manager "explorer.exe", then my desktop appears..
I bought a new ASUS M51SN laptop last month running Windows Vista. I have subsequently loaded MS Office 2003, Skype, Norton SystemWorks and NERO8. I recently upgraded Vista with SP1, Nero, Skype and Norton to their latest versions and the ASUS Bios to 304. While I had a number of software problems prior to these upgrades, I placed my faith in the Vista upgrade, but am still left with a number of irritating problems.
My DVD burner has disappeared from Windows and Norton while Nero is still happy to test it (Diskspeed). The device manager says everything is good, but I cannot see the DVD in either Windows Explorer or My Computer. In the event log, I can see that the unit has encountered a number of bad block events, as well as a number of errors during a paging operation...............
Yesterday just before switching off I noticed that SP2 was available via Windows Update. As I was going to bed, I thought I would leave it until today to install it. When I go to Windows Update, SP2 is no longer offered, although some other updates were. SP2 hasn't been installed, so where has it gone? Will it be offered again?
I have an HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook with Vista Home Premium. The computer is just over a year old and the Pioneer DVDRW drive (DR-KD08HB) just stopped working. It no longer appears under Device Manager or Windows Explorer and the disk tray won't even open. I've had no problems with this drive before, it just seemed to die on me yesterday after I inserted a CD (which I can't retrieve). I ran the Microsoft Fix it 50027 but nothing happened. Is there anything I can do to get it working again?
I have just installed vista onto a laptop using the dvd drive, but when it was all installed it hasn't seemed to install the dvd drive as it doesn't appear on my computer or device manager, just wondered if anyone knows a solution, I have tried to do the regedit thing but the files that need deleting aren't even there, want to put xp back on as the network adapter isn't working either as i think that it isn't compatible with Vista but can't seem to do it as when i try rebooting with the cd in the laptop isn't finding it, even when i got to setup to try and change boot default there is no cddvd drive option there
I have a E systems Laptop and recently the DVD/CD Rom drive disappeared from the list on my computer as well as on device manager. It briefly said that drivers had been instaled and it appeared on my computer, then i put in a CD and DVD and it jut did not work. i have already uninstalled itunes!
I have Windows Vista Home Premium and basically my files keep disappearing. I have saved them in the same way I used to on Windows XP: I create some text files - straight forward Windows Word Processor - when I had about 6 I created a folder and dragged and dropped them into it. I uploaded photos which were also put in a folder and CDs likewise. After a period of 2 days to 2 weeks the CD uploads had disappeared and now after 1 month my text files and lots of picture files have also vanished, leaving behind the folders I created empty. The 'Sample Pictures' that came ready installed have also gone. Obviously I want to store things on the hard drive,
Several days ago some folders from My Documents folder just disappeared. The folders and files in it are really important for me and I was trying to recover is somehow but I found no clue for that. When I search for files it shows that they are on their original location but I cannot access them, they can just be on the Search index I suppose and it makes no s??ance. But I installed Undelete program to check if somehow it is deleted itself and from there I sow lost folders with only those files in the folders which I have deleted before and it is showing that the folder itself is not deleted.
When I first installed Vista Ultimate there was an icon in the system tray representing network connctions. Now it's disappeared. Can anyone tell me where that's configured?
There was a sudden power outage that lasted about 1 second and my computer shut down and immediately powered itself up again. Ever since then the taskbar disappeared from my desktop. The resolution was changed too as a result of the outage but I fixed that easily. Pressing the Windows button on my keyboard does not do anything. When I minimize my windows, they disappear to the right of the screen to nowhere. I have tried to see if the taskbar moved over there but it did not.
