Is it possible to clear the 'Recently e-mailed' contact list that appears when you click the 'TO' button in New mssage. Probably very simple or answered before but I can't see it.

If I change the Start Menu to the Classic Start Menu and then select Customize the Clear button doesn't clear the recently accessed documents. Is there a way to to cler the recent accessed documets?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm just starting to use Windows Mail - looking for a way to display the names in my contact list (previously address book) on the "home" page of Mail, under the folder list, as I used to see them in Outlook Express. It's much more cumbersome to have to open the contact list, find a name and then click on the email button. Is that the only way to open a new mail with a person's name in the To field?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat's the name of the feature that tracks the things you type into the address bar and then populates the dropdown list of the last 20 you entered as well as generating a list of past sites you've typed as you type in a new URL? I'm looking for a way to clear that list, but first I need to know what it's called.
So far I know it's not considered a "Form" because Clear Form Data doesn't remove it. It's also not "Inline AutoComplete" because I've got that turned off. It's also not "Search from the Address Bar" because I've turned that off as well.
I didn't have this annoyance in WinXP but I do in WinVista. It forgets recently opened text files for example, I have a daily "note" file which gets registered in "Recendly Opened Docs" (click Start-->Documents) for ONE sesssion, if I reboot or just work for many hours/next day it's not there and I have to go search in WinExplorer for the d*** file?
Please don't tell me to turn ON Taskbar options "store & display a list of recently open files/prgrams" - those options are both on, also I've been doing computers for decades.Something else is going on here, it's not my settings at fault.Plus, ironically Vista remembers a bunch of OLD files I opened ages ago and still listed as "recently opened" I am tired of looking up for files (in File System/WinExplorer) which I used
to open with TWO CLICKS in WinXP. Yes I can place them all in a conveniently accessible folder, but do NOT want to, it's user's right to keep files where user wants to, especially b/c duplicates/confusion would arise & my system is loaded with a Million files.
For some reason the icons are missing on some programs in the "recently opened programs" list. Ive tried right click start menu and uncheck->check under privacy. If i create a shortcut to the program on the desktop, the icon reappears in the start menu.

If I double clk on the name in the contact list which is named Unknown it will open the address info box and let me see who it really is....NO Matter what I change in that box that shows the real contact persons info along with their real names....not the name Unknown..... in fact the name Unknown does not appear anywhere in the contacts info box.....So how do I either merge them with the correct individuals info .... or change the name to read properly

a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
I orderd the 64 bit version of Vista Home premium. I Bought the 32 bit version $129 almost 2 weeks ago, I have been arguing with the so called help department since:
1) June 18, 2009 on the web site they offered regular shipping(7-14 Bdays) and expediant Shipping(5-10 bdays), come to find out they do not offer this anymore since almost six months(Website was out dated for 6
months?)
2) June 22, 2009 - So I call and very helpfull gentlemen reorderd it for me and refunded my extra $6 for expediant shipping.
3) June 24, 2009 - Two days later, my order has not been updated, they have no clue as to why, can take 72 hrs to process it FINE!
4) June 26, 2009 NOW it is 96 hrs since reorder, 132 hrs sine original order, no update, gentlemen tells me he will look into it, aparently,way over due (No Sh*t Sherlock)
5) June 29, 2009, 264hrs (11 days) since Original Order, 228 hrs (9 days) since re order....Gues what! no update, Warhouse has not called help/Ordering department in 2 freaking days! OPPS WAIT, Man on phone tells me "They have NO way to call Warehouse, Only can communicate via EMAIL"!!!! do you believe this Sh*T!, Microsoft does not have PHONE at thier warehouse? BULLSH*T!!......
I'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.

I have already unchecked the box to Store and display a list of recently opened files in Start Menu, and Windows has stopped showing these files on my desktop. However, my sensitive filenames still exist in the Vista search folders, here-> Users/myname/Searches/Recent....).
So I deleted all of the (Recent....) folders in the Searches folder. That seemed to fix part of the problem. However, my sensitive filenames still exist in the specific Vista search folder named Indexed Locations?. I tried rebuilding the search index but these filenames still persist, even in the newly rebuilt index. The actual files exist on a disk that is NOT INCLUDED in indexing. They seem to be included because they are recent, and not because they are being indexed........
I applied this to fix the missing clear recent list problem in start menu: "Clear Recent Items List" option missing when you right-click on the Recent folder However, the problem returns frequently and the option is missing again. I also have this other problem where every time I reboot, the "store and display recently opened files" is unchecked and therefore the feature does not show up in the start menu. I have to re-check it everytime after a reboot. This is very annoying. Note: this problem was always happening prior to installing both Wise software. Also, I have always used CCleaner without such problems, for over 2 years. On a side note, it seems the problem *may* have started around the time I installed SP1.

I recently tried to click on my " recently changed" link on the left side of my documents screen, and got this messege, " The item " recently changed.search-ms" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this short cut will no longer work properly. Do you wish to delete this short cut?" I dont remember deleteing it, and was wondering if anyones seen this before. I'm not really sure if I need this shortcut, but was just wondering if I messed something up inadvertantly. I just recently added a 1TB HDD, but I dont think that had anything to do with the missing shortcut. I have a tendency to do a "delete sweep" in what I thought were like the old temp files...didnt realize this was a shortcut to actual files. Should I try to get the reently changed short cut working again?

In Windows XP, I used to manually clear Cookies, Temp files and Internet Temp files from the Local Settings (after enabling the file extension views from Tools > Properties > View tab). How can I do this in Windows Vista Ultimate ? I found only Temp folder under Local in the Explorer but not the Cookies folder and Internet Temp folder.

settings" is a link rather than a subdirectory, and when I try to expand it I get "C:usersusernamelocal settings is not accesible. Access is denied".I'm logged in as administrator, and I have set folder options->view to "show hidden files and folders" and to not "hide protected operating system files".I get the same error when I try to expand "C:usersusernamestart menu". Is there anyway that I could make Vista show text more clear as my XP? I have 22" viewsonic and no problems at all with XP in terms of text clarity/sharpness. Monitor runs at native resolution and I have also tried to change clear type to on/off. Am I the only one having hard time reading a text on Vista after upgrading from XP?

I can't figure our how to get the queue to clear so i can start fresh. rebooting the computer doesn't fix it.
