View 4 RepliesI'm just starting to use Windows Mail - looking for a way to display the names in my contact list (previously address book) on the "home" page of Mail, under the folder list, as I used to see them in Outlook Express. It's much more cumbersome to have to open the contact list, find a name and then click on the email button. Is that the only way to open a new mail with a person's name in the To field?

View 4 Replies View Relatedthis "new" software just terminates whatever I'm in the middle of to update itself. hence I loose it all...most annoying...especially when it was a letter... The contact lists havent transfered....I paid for the software and the cable and everything...NONE TO BE FOUND IT INFORMS ME.... nowhere to be found even when I try to import/export.... also, the language is nowhere to be found.. when I try to do a spell check.. I actually hate this new vista and also all the changes to HOTMAIL. Who wants msn???not me... When I type in www.hotmail.com why should I write xxxxx@hotmail.com instead of like yahoo when all I write is my name not @ YAHOO.COM..its pathetic..then i have to go through another hoop and click on email to get to my hotmail.. Tired of all of Microsofts gimmicks... theyre annoying especially when we have to get used to them just to change again... It all defies logic... I am so sick of it.. I wonder if I can scrap this VISTA and replace it with XP? Anyone got any solutions... I cant stop hotmail.. I've had it since before bill gates owned it.. 10 years.. wish i could...

I have put my email addresses from my old comp into my new Vista syst. and windows mail and they are stored as contacts list. They do not show up when I try to send an email from Windows Mail. View 8 Replies View RelatedSomewhere for some reason I now have almost 200 Unknown contacts in my contacts list. If I double clk on the name in the contact list which is named Unknown it will open the address info box and let me see who it really is....NO Matter what I change in that box that shows the real contact persons info along with their real names....not the name Unknown..... in fact the name Unknown does not appear anywhere in the contacts info box.....So how do I either merge them with the correct individuals info .... or change the name to read properly

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got an e-mail with probably 50 e-mail addresses in the To list. I'd like to use to this list to create my own Contact List but don't want to have to type in each name and e-mail address. in WM is there anyway to copy a long list of addresses (located in the `To' section of a mail one receives) and somehow paste all of that into a new contact group list that I want to create?

View 7 Replies View Relatedthat her Windows Mail is really strange. I can't help her because I don't use Windows Mail so I am asking on her behalf.
a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
I've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my new Dell XPS M1530 yesterday which came with Vista and was really excited to use it untill I was forced to switch my mail from Gmail to Yahoo by Vista, indirectly ofcourse. The problem is that 98% of the times when I try to send mails from my Gmail account (I use it from the browser itself and not windows mail), it gives me a #008 error. Vista is also not letting me open a few other webpages that I am able to in XP. Mostly the pages are the secure ones.It came with McAfee, so being a non techie guy I thought that it must be the one to blame so I uninstalled it and installed my loved AVG. But the error persists. The thing to be noted is that I am able to login, receive, read and do everything else with Gmail except sending mails.
The remedies I have tried so far:
1. Use another browser (FF and Chrome)
2. Remove/ deactivate firewalls, email scanners.
3. Use Gmails Secure mode (https://mail.google.com)
4. Putting all security settings in IE7 to "Low" allowing everything.
I apologize for such a long post but this appears to be a common problem with Gmail in Vista or you can say Vista with Gmail and there is no proper solution availabe for it in the net or with the two giants themselves as far as I know.
My windows mail was working fine. Now it keeps asking for my username and password. I know it is correct and when I enter it, it asks for it again. If I press cancel it gives me this error.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a system running Vista. My Gmail was running fine for a while, but here's the deal: If I have Gmail open in a tab, and it sits idle for awhile, the application appears to freeze. Not only does it freeze (blank screen when I activate the tab), but it "freezes" my whole IE7 (cannot access any other tabs, no tool bar functions, etc.) I have to abort my whole IE7 through task manager. I've started opening Gmail in a separate browser to avoid this, but I still freeze in that browser window and have to abort with Task manager. Anyone else having this problem? It only happens with Gmail, everything else works fine.
