Is there anyway that I could make Vista show text more clear as my XP? I have 22" viewsonic and no problems at all with XP in terms of text clarity/sharpness. Monitor runs at native resolution and I have also tried to change clear type to on/off. Am I the only one having hard time reading a text on Vista after upgrading from XP?

I'm looking for a way to clear that list, but first I need to know what it's called.
So far I know it's not considered a "Form" because Clear Form Data doesn't remove it. It's also not "Inline AutoComplete" because I've got that turned off. It's also not "Search from the Address Bar" because I've turned that off as well.
Windows Vista Ultimate. In Windows XP, I used to manually clear Cookies, Temp files and Internet Temp files from the Local Settings (after enabling the file extension views from Tools > Properties > View tab). How can I do this in Windows Vista Ultimate ? I found only Temp folder under Local in the Explorer but not the Cookies folder and Internet Temp folder.

ive just reinstalled vista 64bit home premium i downloaded it from a torrent and then validated with my key im coming from 64bit windows 7 where i had 6 gbs of ram all showing up and in use but since ive reinstalled vista half of my RAM is missing i have it running dual channel one set with 4 gbs and the other set 2 gbs the 4 gbs is corsair 800 mhz and the 2 is stock memory whats also 800mhz i was gonna ditch the 2 when i bought the corsair ram recently but decided to keep both sets because my WEI score was 6.4 with just the corsair ram 4gbs but went uptoo 7.2 when i added the other stock ram and both sets were running flawlessly together ive tried both sets on there own and both are working in either slot on motherboard when i just used the 2 gbs it showed up something like 1980 ram in or something and when i just used the 4 set it was showing the same amount as the picture above i was thinking ive got some fake 64bit vista but 64bit programs work.

I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...

I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Vista Ultimate on a Dell laptop. Suddenly all names show as date modified. Tried the registry 'bags' resets and checking folder type under 'Customize This Folder...' When i right click on the columns, the name column (and a few others) are not available... anywhere. All file and folder names show as the Date modified, except for folder names which show in the Navigation Pane. Tried creating a new Administrator account - same thing, safe mode - same thing. Copied files to another computer and they are fine. Also can access files round about through explorer and then typing in a file name. Tried SFC/scannow - ok. Full virus and spyware scan with AVG AV and AS and Hijack This - clean. System Restore and disk cache are turned off because of good speed increase, so needless to say i cannot go back. Even if i could i would rather know what is causing this issue. Is there an area of the registry which holds the column names? Also not sure if this is related but Search fails to initialize.

I am networking Vista and XP. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT the XP computer does not show up in in the Vista network folder. I can access the XP computer by entering \computername in the "start search" box, after which I see all the XP shared files and can access the files as expected. When I run the "map complete network" function, the network map is correct and shows the switch, XP computer, and Vista computer. The XP side works 100%
The only problem is that on the Vista side when you open an explorer window and click on Network, the XP computer doesn't show up. For purposes of debugging, both firewalls are off. Authentication is set to NTLMv1 level, and the XP LLTD patch has been applied.
Is Vista Service Pack 1 supposed to show up as a specific item in update history? Nothing is showing up in mine

Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

I have not changed anything in my settings or set-up but just recently one of my contacts say they just get what appears to be a blank email from me with a 1kb attachment image001.gif. However, if they open my email and click Forward, when the new window opens to put the forward address in, the message I sent can be read, with all the formatting etc I used. They say they haven't changed anything in their setup.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking (DNS) is *30* *TIMES* more accurate than Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) on any use where unusual words are involved, such as medical usage. Why? - because the "scan documents" feature of WSR is broken, just plain does not work. On a 600 word medical dictation, I get 30 text mistakes when I use WSR; I get ZERO text mistakes using DNS. It takes a long time to find and correct those 30 text mistakes.
That is a poor 95% text accuracy, a person would be better off just typing everything in. The same document scanning feature in DNS works fine. If I did not use that feature, then DNS would have almost as high an error rate as WSR does. The same document scanning feature in "MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.8", a speech app that only runs on Macs, works fine also, no text errors at all on a 600 word medical dictation, thanks to its "scan documents" feature actually working........
My monitor is set at 1152 X 720 pixels. The default is 1440 x 900, but that makes everything so super tiny that I can't see text too well. Text size is set at default or standard. The Windows dialog boxes are all cut off so that at least one third of them cannot be seen. From using old Windows OS systems in the past, I can guess at what is unseen and just use the tab key to select "Ok, Cancel, and Apply".
But some boxes, for example, the "Sound Theme" dialog box has a whole section below of selecting sounds for events and I cannot see any of it.
Here's the clincher. Just to adjust my sound theme, I set my monitor to the microscopic 1440 x 900 setting and still cannot see the dialog boxes. The text size set on default.
What settings are these boxes viewable?
I should point out that my Sister and a couple of friends have
