Why Service Pack 1 Show As Installed In Windows Update History?
Dec 29, 2009I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?

specific NG.
I am not asking for a new Group for each SP for each OS. Jjust one group that relates to Service Pack related problems.

Microsoft.Windows.Vista.Service-Packs
Whichever would work but the "General" topic is just not specific enough.
I only found this "General" by accident. I certainly would NOT have come searching here for SP related issues had there not been so many here already.
I formally request that Microsoft create a group that is on topic and related to the Extremely problematic SP release for Vista.
I guess if this SP1 for Vista wasn't such a unique monster, I might not have requested this and would have accepted "Genera" as goodenough.
Update Of The Service Pack
Jul 10, 2008recently my windows vista had an update of the service pack, n this happens. when i clicked the window color and preference and sounds, it only pop out the appearance window while it suppose to go to this page below. and even more i cant open my games.. is it all this got to do with the graphic card? btw im missing the Windows Vista Standard option in the first screenshot

Aug 13, 2009I have come across two computers in my family that fail to update to Vista SP2 with totally different error codes, and leading to different discussions on the community forums. One is a desktop and the other is a new Dell laptop. The latter gets error code 80070490. Wow this Microsoft quality control reminds me of the constant bugs I had when I was using Windows 3.0 back in the early 1990s, or the first Windows 95 release. I hope it's better in Windows 7!

Jan 12, 2008When I turned Vista on today it said there was an update. So here I am installing this update that seems like an hour, only to find it did not install and it reverting back the changes. Why didn't this install? Is there a program conflict somewhere? I never had a problem like this with XP. I have my firewall off (Comodo) and really don't have much programs installed since it's just my laptop.

Jul 21, 2009Ive scoured the internet to find the solution to my problem and ive ran out of solutions to my problem so i though id try the proffesional and worldly wise people here at vista forums so here goes... i recently updated my vista to service pack 2 x64 which installed perfectly fine with no hangs or any visible errors. after the machine restarted one of my dvd drives was missing but it recognised the other which worked fine in burning and playing my CD/DVDs.
so i restrted my pc once more just to see if that may re-jog the system and it did both of my dvd drives were both visible so i though great no problems there. went to bed shutdown my computer. the next day i started it up as normal but noticed on the screen where its says " press del to run bios " or something like screen appeared it stayed on for a lot longer than normal i normally blink and its gone but it stayed on the screen for approx 2mins then proceeded to start up as normal. checked my computer and this time they had both vanished. ran all my virus checkers even checked the screen where you can update the drivers but nothing gone......................

Dec 1, 2009I have the Windows Automatic Update feature turned off. Every couple of weeks I manually update and install only critical and what I deem as necessary for my machine updates. Everything went fine the end of October, updates successfully installed. I also installed the English language pack as my OS was in German. I don't think the language pack has anything to do with the problems I'm about to describe. In early November I went to do a manual update and got this screen:
it's telling me that I need to update the updater. No big deal there. But, it's also telling me that I NEVER checked for updates and updates were NEVER installed. Not true, according to the next window I've got 112 updates in installed: Anyways, I continue to update the updater. It then tells me it can't complete the job and says to restart the computer and try to update again, which I did:.........
How To Save Service Pack 1 And Automatic Update
May 17, 2008I have two computers running Vista Home Premium. When Service Pack 1 came out, my desktop, which is a clone I built myself, downloaded and installed Service Pack 1 without any problem, but my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop seems oblivious to Service Pack 1's existence. Although automatic update is on both computers with similar settings (full automatic update), and the laptop has downloaded a number of updates since then and keeps telling me the computer is up to date, I can't help wondering why Service Pack 1 hasn't downloaded and installed, and whether I should install it manually or just assume the computer has a good reason to not install it and leave it alone.

May 3, 2008I have numerous problems installing service pack 1 on my Dell Laptop running Vista Home Premium. I succeded in installing it first time, but when I next ran windows update and rebooted, after the logon screen I just got a black screen with the mouse pointer and nothing else. I restored from an image, did all the updates, then installed the SP1 - same problem. Now I restored image, and applied SP1 (without running windows update first) and have the same problem. No problems on my home built desktop, just the laptop. Really pissed with Vista just now.

Aug 9, 2009Vista Service pack 2 won't install on hubbies laptop. (Vista Home Premium 32-bit) I have tried 3 times, rebooting after each attempt. An error pops up saying: "C:Windowssystem32sqmapi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system Administrator or Software Vendor for support." The error code is C0000020 and on the heading bar is says "SPCLITE.EXE - Bad Image. We have no idea what program or what .dll it is talking about. I am running Malwarebytes on his computer at the moment to see if anything comes up regarding that.

Jun 20, 2008So I did not get it in the right place, Windows help is not very user friendly. I want to print my Vista update history and don't know how to. XP has a print command to do this but Vista doesn't seem to have it. what can I do?

Service Pack 2 Not Available
Mar 13, 2010I was wondering if I had the correct Service Packs. Under Windows Updates I can see them all going back to when I bought it. It shows 1 service pack update, KB948465 on 9/19/09. It does not show a 2nd. Under Windows Edition in my System (Control Panel) it shows Windows Home Premium and Service Pack 2.
