Radeon HQ 4770 Work On System
Apr 18, 2010I have an eMachines ET1161-05 desktop and the integrated graphics leaves much to be desired. It runs Vista Basic 32 bit O.S. Other (factory) stuff is: Emachines MCP61PM-GM Motherboard.....I hope it does cause I've already ordered an XFX HD477AYDFC Radeon HD 4770 Video Card - 512MB DDR5, PCI Express 2.0, along with a Diablotek DA Series 500w ATX Power Supply (D15-1205). Will these new (in transit from tiger direct) items get along well with my system? I'm not expecting miracles, but I am expecting large improvements.

Mar 24, 2009My laptop came with a 32 bit version of Vista Home Premium. It has 4 GB of RAM, and the 32 bit cannot handle all that. I called microsoft, but they say I cannot have the 64 bit copy because my software is OEM. The vendor said that if my laptop came with a 32 bit version, is because this version is the best for the device. But I think it shouldn't have sold this laptop with a 32 bit version. Now, what should I do? Buy a real 64 bit copy?

Mar 26, 2008I am presently using 96SE. my ISP no longer supports this version as do some programs....my unit is not powerful enough for either xp or vista I am in my eighties and some of my colleagues tell me that vista has a pretty high learning curve, have found both windows 95 and 95se very user friendly. I can get a new unit from Dell loaded with either XP or Vista, i would like to keep current but do not want to become overwhelmed by new technology. I am not a power user but did not find the older window operating system too challenging, the tasks i presently perform are pretty basic my question is given my age and experience level could i handle Vista or should i opt for the XP version.

Apr 9, 2010I've been trying to find a player that can handle .mkv files with PGS subtitles. I've tried the VLC nightly builds. As soon as it smells a PGS subtitle in an .mkv file, it disappears with no error message. Tried Splash Lite. Plays .mkv fine but only supports .srt subs(I know how to extract the PGS subs and process them, but I still want a software player for Windows that can handle PGS subs.)
I tried some other players based on MPlayer but I couldn't really figure out how I was supposed to use them. The roomer is new players based on ffmpeg are supposed to support PGS subs, but I haven't found one for Windows yet that I can use in real life. Is anyone using something free that works?

4Gb RAM, 32bit, Task Manager Only Can Handle Up To 3 Gb RAM
Mar 25, 2008After installing SP1 on Vista, the system properties report that I have 4Gb RAM installed, which is true. However it seems that from the Task Manager, it only can handle up to 3 Gb RAM. So is the other 1Gb wasted? Or is it actually in use for other invisible purposes?

Feb 16, 2008I have just installed Vista x64 with a Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card, and I am experiencing graphics corruption in, particularly in 3d apps.
I sometimes get white horizontal lines across the screen and sometimes white blocks. In some 3d apps portions of the environment flicker out. they seem to disappear and I can see what is behind whatever object has disappeared momentarily.
Using Catalyst I can see that the graphics card never breaks 40% GPU utilization and the temperature never exceeds 40 degrees C.
I also had a very low end Nvidia 7500LE using the generic windows driver which also had the white lines, but I never tested the 3d apps with it.
Currently, if using the 8.2 ATI drivers, all seems well until I launch a 3d app. I have a 500 watt power supply.
ATI Radeon S-Video Settings?

The graphics card works fine, but Vista neither recognizes the TV Tuner nor do I think ATI will support it since AMD bought them out.. AMD is being very vague on AIW or any TV Tuner support. I'm curious what Microsoft will do to support the full functions of mass marketed hardware such as the All-In Wonder TV Tuner Graphics cards?

Sep 20, 2008Wondering if anyone has a suggestion. When importing a DVR-MS file recorded using Windows Media Center into Windows Movie Maker, in order to convert it to a more compact WMV file, a green screen shows up in the preview pane on the right-hand side. The audio works -- but only green shows.
It's strange because the DVR-MS file plays fine within Windows Media Center.
System is a Dell XPS 410 running an ATI Radeon x1600 pro with the latest Certified driver from Windows Update (8.391.0.0 dated 6/26/2007).
There is a later driver available from ATI, 8.9, but before taking the risk up upgrading the driver, wonder if there's another setting that may be causing the green screen?
Dual Monitors In ATI Radeon HD 3200
Jun 19, 2009I've got the two monitors hooked up to the splitter cable, I open "personalize" display and it tells me monitor two is "not active". It does, however, display Monitor 1 as a clone. How do I activate the second monitor so that when I extend the desktop I can open up windows separately? Something in the driver configuration I'm missing?

It is telling me that WindowsSystem32Driversacpi.sys is missing or corrupt. I am dual-booting XP and Vista, and I found out that the entire drivers folder is missing on Vista. How can I get it back, or will I have to do a format re-install?

Aug 4, 2008I'm building a computer and have all of the components (just need to finish putting them together). Now, I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 card and was hoping to watch Blu-Ray videos on my current monitor which is an HP w19b. The monitor has a maximum resolution of 1440x900. From what I understand of HD technology, this would mean that no, the monitor would not be able to handle the full 1080p resolution, but it should be able to display 720p.
But here is the question, will my current monitor be able to display ANYTHING from the Blu-Ray player? I think the confusion comes in when I see these monitors that advertise HD capable, but I thought all monitors were HD capable, you just need to know what resolution you are trying to display the HD at, 720p or 1080p.
Radeon HD4850 Multidisplays And Sleep Mode
Aug 24, 2008I figure I might as well post it in this forum to inform those who have my card (ASUS EAH4850 512MB). Currently after posting this topic in another forum, there seems to be no solution. Here is my conclusions from the situation. Sleep mode with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit does not work with multidisplays, using the radeon HD4850 running Catalyst 8.7 or Catalyst 8.8, when returning from sleep mode. It works only on a single display and will not work even when the secondary display is disabled. Monitors will display a blank screen and the power lights will flash indicating they are in standby even after the system has been restored from sleep mode. The secondary monitor must be physically detached from the graphics card (remove the DVI, AGP, or S-Video cable) for the system to return from sleep mode.

I bought this computer back in april. after I bought it I purchased a new program called Advanced System Optimizer. When I google for information on a quality utility program this program had very high recommendations. I also have Fit-It utilities 7 and an older version of System Mechanic. My computer is running slower now and I know it needs cleaning up. The last time months ago right after I purchase Advance System Optimizer I ran the registry cleaner and it reeked havok on my system. I called the company and they told me their program I purchased was not designed for 64bit systems. Of course they didn't refund my money. Question is: My computer needs cleaning up I can tell it is running slower than it used to. What utility program is out there that will work on my system. She just clicked all the exits and got off of the internet and now she is locked out of her computer. We can't get system restore to work, Can't get safe mode to work, She has AVG 8 installed but cannot start it. Tried SFC /scannow but was denied access. Tried putting the Windows XP disk in to do a repair and was unable to get it to start. I think the only thing to do is reformat the HD and start over but her PC ignores the A drive and the dvd drives. I cannot get into it in order to re format it.

Mar 30, 2008I have a problem currently with Windows Vista Ultimate(Integrale), this occurred last Friday evening. I was finishing off a word document when suddenly all went black. As an end user I assumed this was a system crash and so rebooted my system, then ran registry repair, then checked for viruses etc with Live OneCare, eventually reloaded Vista all to no avail. Each time I rebooted I was greeted by a black screen after logging in.
I called my tech support who could not help but I did manage to gain access to the internet and after a short while found an item entitled Black Screen Death. This reported that all my problems where due to Microsoft thinking I had a non genuine copy of Vista it went on to explain how you could circum-navigate the problem (this I did and even though I have to repeat this process each time I log on I can use Windows normally). I purchased my copy of Vista Ulitimate from a large chain store at the not give away price of over 400 Euros and registered the same online on the day of installation and have been running for sometime with other Microsoft products including Live OneCare. Why then am I suddenly crippled for an entire weekend by Microsoft security and how can I rectify the situation perminently
