Player Can Handle .mkv With PGS Subs?
Apr 9, 2010
I've been trying to find a player that can handle .mkv files with PGS subtitles. I've tried the VLC nightly builds. As soon as it smells a PGS subtitle in an .mkv file, it disappears with no error message. Tried Splash Lite. Plays .mkv fine but only supports .srt subs(I know how to extract the PGS subs and process them, but I still want a software player for Windows that can handle PGS subs.)
I tried some other players based on MPlayer but I couldn't really figure out how I was supposed to use them. The roomer is new players based on ffmpeg are supposed to support PGS subs, but I haven't found one for Windows yet that I can use in real life. Is anyone using something free that works?

My laptop came with a 32 bit version of Vista Home Premium. It has 4 GB of RAM, and the 32 bit cannot handle all that. I called microsoft, but they say I cannot have the 64 bit copy because my software is OEM. The vendor said that if my laptop came with a 32 bit version, is because this version is the best for the device. But I think it shouldn't have sold this laptop with a 32 bit version. Now, what should I do? Buy a real 64 bit copy?

I am presently using 96SE. my ISP no longer supports this version as do some programs....my unit is not powerful enough for either xp or vista I am in my eighties and some of my colleagues tell me that vista has a pretty high learning curve, have found both windows 95 and 95se very user friendly. I can get a new unit from Dell loaded with either XP or Vista, i would like to keep current but do not want to become overwhelmed by new technology. I am not a power user but did not find the older window operating system too challenging, the tasks i presently perform are pretty basic my question is given my age and experience level could i handle Vista or should i opt for the XP version.

After installing SP1 on Vista, the system properties report that I have 4Gb RAM installed, which is true. However it seems that from the Task Manager, it only can handle up to 3 Gb RAM. So is the other 1Gb wasted? Or is it actually in use for other invisible purposes?

Our software modifies HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib09Counter and help to add performance monitor counters. It has been working for years on XP. It does not work on Vista. To test, I tried to add a key to Perflib09 but I got "Cannot to registry" dialog box. I tried to modify the permission and got "Invalid handle". I can add key to Perflib but not Perflib09. I am logged in under administrator account.

I have a brand new HP Pavilion Media Center m8100n with DVD super multi drive/CD writer. I can play my wedding dvd, but when I try to play commercially purchased DVD's (either with Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center) I get some message and am unable to watch.
Windows Media Player states: cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. Windows Media Center states: DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be loweredor the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD. I contacted HP and a nice person tryied to help via internet connection. They had me uninstal/reinstal Roxio and also send me to a site to get an updated driver.

I cannot now open any wav file with Medic Player. The shortcut on the start menu does not start Media Player. If I go to the directory that contains the media player exe files and click on any one of them (e.go. wmplayer.exe, wmlaunch.exe, wmpshare.exe, morph.exe etc. ).nothing happens. Also I recently noticed that email containing Power
Point formats do not open.
I don't know if they are related but a couple of weeks ago I down loaded from the Microsoft site programs for reading the newer versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
I have tried to find the Media Player software on the Microsoft site thinking I could reinstall it but all I can find is updates to it. I don't even know what version of Media Players I have. I am using Vista, with all current patches.

First of all I'm on vista home basic, second of all wmp was already installed on my pc when I received it. Lastly, it's always had this problem When I click on a mp3/avi/any wmp associated file it will launch the file audio, I can hear it BUT wmp doesn't open, I have to manually launch wmp before I can stop the file or do anything else.
I googled the problem many times and tried solutions but never got anywhere. I reset the assiociated files, I've checked for updates , I've run out of ideas. I was even going to unistall and reinstall it. Yet I can't seem to get a vista version from the microsoft webpage ?! So I don't want to uninstall it and loose it, or even try using wmp 10
instead, I'm worried it will mess up my machines default settings and/or media center!

Each time I put an audio CD into the cd drive Window Media Player comes alive and starts to play it. Many times I just want to rip the CD onto my MP3 player with software that comes with the MP3 player. I'll even have the ripping software loaded and ready to view the first Cd into the drive but Media Player still jumps ion over everything and starts playing the Cd. Is there some way I can make Media player just stay still until I want it and launch it myself?

I got the following message when playing DVDs on Vista home premium with Windows Media Player. The same problem happens to media center. Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. I can play those DVDs on PowerDVD or VLC player. I installed K-Lite codec. It still doesn't work. It looks like it is not codec problem.

All of the issues with IE7 crashing, Media Player Crashing, I am going to attribute to the ASUS P5N32 E SLI motherboard I was using. It just blue screened and died 2 days ago after forcing me to re-activate a 3rd time with the same board.
I have a Builders OEM of Ultimate 32 bit. My biggest problem is will my copy of Vista still be valid for a change out? I tried ASUS for the first time in 12 years instead of Intel. That would seem to have settled my curiosity for good. The board didn't even last 6 months on stock settings and normal to low use............

When I attempt to open media player or open a media file WMP11 fails to start, no error messages or anything in the event log. So far the only option appears to be available is to reinstall Vista, this is ridiculous as a fix I would rather install a third party media player.

I lost my flash player and can't re-install it. I've deleted the flash files and re-installed several times and deleted my macromed folder and re-installed. I think the issue is in the UAC. When I try to change the UAC account type to administrator I can click on the administrator dot but the change account type box fades and I can not select it. In advanced user profile properties there is a user name ending in a IUSR_NMPR and then the user name that I use. I can not delete either.

I recently just upgraded my motherboard and ram and ended up having to rebuy vista as my computer was previously factory built.

Adobe Flash is not working in any of the programs that use it unless I run the program as administrator, then it works fine. However, I do not want to be forever having to run all my programs as administrator because either I have to right click and do it, or set it to run as administrator which means I get the popup from UAC. I didn't have flash installed. I have tried all the solutions offered on the adobe site several times and none of them will work.
