Registry: "Invalid Handle".

Our software modifies HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPerflib09Counter and help to add performance monitor counters. It has been working for years on XP. It does not work on Vista. To test, I tried to add a key to Perflib09 but I got "Cannot to registry" dialog box. I tried to modify the permission and got "Invalid handle". I can add key to Perflib but not Perflib09. I am logged in under administrator account.

My laptop came with a 32 bit version of Vista Home Premium. It has 4 GB of RAM, and the 32 bit cannot handle all that. I called microsoft, but they say I cannot have the 64 bit copy because my software is OEM. The vendor said that if my laptop came with a 32 bit version, is because this version is the best for the device. But I think it shouldn't have sold this laptop with a 32 bit version. Now, what should I do? Buy a real 64 bit copy?

I am presently using 96SE. my ISP no longer supports this version as do some programs....my unit is not powerful enough for either xp or vista I am in my eighties and some of my colleagues tell me that vista has a pretty high learning curve, have found both windows 95 and 95se very user friendly. I can get a new unit from Dell loaded with either XP or Vista, i would like to keep current but do not want to become overwhelmed by new technology. I am not a power user but did not find the older window operating system too challenging, the tasks i presently perform are pretty basic my question is given my age and experience level could i handle Vista or should i opt for the XP version.

I've been trying to find a player that can handle .mkv files with PGS subtitles. I've tried the VLC nightly builds. As soon as it smells a PGS subtitle in an .mkv file, it disappears with no error message. Tried Splash Lite. Plays .mkv fine but only supports .srt subs(I know how to extract the PGS subs and process them, but I still want a software player for Windows that can handle PGS subs.)
I tried some other players based on MPlayer but I couldn't really figure out how I was supposed to use them. The roomer is new players based on ffmpeg are supposed to support PGS subs, but I haven't found one for Windows yet that I can use in real life. Is anyone using something free that works?

After installing SP1 on Vista, the system properties report that I have 4Gb RAM installed, which is true. However it seems that from the Task Manager, it only can handle up to 3 Gb RAM. So is the other 1Gb wasted? Or is it actually in use for other invisible purposes?

WARNING: only for advanced users who like to clean the registry. Quicksys regcleaner normally $25 free - only 4hrs left from here: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/
Win 7 compatible - have used this and deleted all 1200 entries it found. It makes a backup - been running for several hours and reboots with no probs. Also working fine so far on my Vista x64 and Win 7 x86 installs. After cleaning you need to shut the app. and reopen it for it to find it's backups. (Easy to find them by hand - it can compress them to.7z files, too ). Have used their regdefrag a lot - identical scans and results to the Auslogics and Glary versions- so use whichever defragger you already have. WARNING: not recommended to defrag registry across drives.

I am using this program to clean up my registry and it seems to work fine except the errors keep coming back. I can do a scan, clean up all the errors and then shut down and start up and I have a new 20 registry error list and most or all of the errors relate to "bad path for the value" and its windows files that seem to be at fault. I don't understand why Microsoft operating system would create registry errors on a startup, before anything has been installed etc. is RegistryBooster misleading me or what. I am running win7 but it did the same thing on vista home premium so I think the question is valid for this group.

Vista has taken upon itself to invalidate my admin password on startup or when changing users. Fortunately my wifes account is also admin so i can login with hers and remove my password to gain access to my account. I have even created a new admin account for myself which worked OK for a day or two before it succumbed to the same problem. My wifes account is so far unaffected. Is there an easy fix or should I be very worried? This all seems to have started since I lost the internet (changing provider).

My daughter has a dell laptop with Windows Vista installed by Dell. She has had the computer for 9 months. Today while trying to startup her computer, she got a message that her VISTA product key is invalid. Of course the recommendations involve getting on line with the computer which will not open windows. The other resolutoin suggested is to type in the product key on the computer. I am reluctant to do that since it says that if VISTA does not start up then Windows will be lost and the computer may not work at all.

I upgraded from XP Pro about a week ago and everything just died today after using RegCure to cleanup the registry. I used the startup repair which told me that the repair had to be done manually and I also removed all devices that were attached with USB. all to no avail.
I am running vista home premium 32bit on a AMD 4600+ duel 64bit processor with 2Gb of memory and a 120Gb 7200 maxtor HD.

Recently I started getting a black screeen with "Invalid system disk...Replace the disk, and then press any key" error at startup.
What could that mean? And when I just press a key, it starts up normally. Everytime my laptop boots, that error comes up, and I press a random key, and everything runs normally again.?

I set up my Windows Mail account using my gmail account. It downloaded all of my mail from gmail, and it was in working order for about five minutes. Then the window popped up that said Windows Mail has rejected my login, asks me to log back in, which I did with and without @gmail.com and it says 'invalid credentials' a44if2687622rne.0 I just went BACK on because another inactivity window came up and I could access my inbox for about 20 seconds, hit the sent items folder and the window saying 'an unknown error has occured'configuration
I've read a lot of things saying it may be my antivirus software but I don't have Norton, I have Trend Micro PC-cillin that I paid to be preinstalled.

new to Vista and ignorant to most things about it. I just bought a new hp laptop and had Camedia master 1.2 installed on my old desktop,it uploaded my photos from my Olympus camera and let me manage them. When I put the software disc in the laptop and installed the program,it looked like Vista was going to accept it, it installed in programsprogram files and when I clicked on the shortcut it opened. Then I got the red x box, saying invalid pathway.
Since I believe it installed right why the problem? is there any way I can correct this, without spending up to a 150 for new software? I opened the program right from program files and still got the same invalid pathway answer and it had to close the program. I have Vista home premium.

I was redirected to a window that said "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation" -- quite a surprise, considering that Vista had worked near-perfectly for the 4 months that I've had my laptop, and that I've never had to key in a product key before! When I chose the option to manually type the product key, I received error message 0xCD004F050 with several warnings that I might be the victim of counterfeit software (again, quite a surprise!). I called the vendor's (Lenovo) customer support line, but the representative told me that I needed to get in touch with Microsoft. I called MS's customer support, but didn't want to pay a representative, especially if the only solution is to purchase another version of Vista.......

Small peer-to-peer network. One NT4SP5 Wkstn. box that can be accessed from every other machine (95, 98, 2K) but the Vista laptop. Asks for user name & password but then declares it invalid (it isn't). Always wants to prepend User Name with Computer Name, but even when this is deleted, does not allow access.

new to this website and a complete noob with computers. Every time I turn on my pc I get the error message invalid system disk, Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter I found this website support.microsoft.com/kb/128730 which gives out some solution but didnt understand a thing. tried looking manual book (M2N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard) that didnt help either because am not sure what I should be looking for. I tried to put the windows vista setup disk, the vista loading bar pop up showed that it was loading. the it seemed to have froze. I also noticed that when I go into the bios setup menu, in the main section this is how it looks like
Primary IDE Master [none]
Primary IDE Slave [none]
Sata 1 [none]
Sata 2 [none]
Sata 3 [none]
Sata 4 [TSSTCorp CDDVDw]
Sata 5 [none]
Sata 6 [none]
I thought that it should have the name of my hdd in one of the square brakets.

Before installing Vista, I tought of making a backup on a second internal hard disk which a bought and installed on the original XP professional machine, I found myself to be very smart doing this. Unfortunatly now that Vista is installed on this machine the disk is not accessible. disk manager says "dynamic disk status invalid"? What can/should I do to gain control over this disk again? I can convert it to a standard disk (only option available in disk manager) beause then I will loos the information it contains.

I used to have 3 USB disks (dynamic GPT) running fine under Vista Ultimate. Then I made a fresh Windows 7 Home Premium install. Noticing that it didn't recognise my disks (and other problems as well), I decided to go back to Vista Ultimate (using Windows.old).
But now the original Vista Ultimate installation didn't recognise them either! They have status Invalid in Disk Management Console. DISKPART sees the disks, and also the partitions, but it doesn't appear to find any volumes. Any command I try to do returns the error message that it is not allowed on invalid disk packs.
