Display 1080P With Sapphire Radeon HD 4850
Aug 4, 2008
I'm building a computer and have all of the components (just need to finish putting them together). Now, I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 card and was hoping to watch Blu-Ray videos on my current monitor which is an HP w19b. The monitor has a maximum resolution of 1440x900. From what I understand of HD technology, this would mean that no, the monitor would not be able to handle the full 1080p resolution, but it should be able to display 720p.
But here is the question, will my current monitor be able to display ANYTHING from the Blu-Ray player? I think the confusion comes in when I see these monitors that advertise HD capable, but I thought all monitors were HD capable, you just need to know what resolution you are trying to display the HD at, 720p or 1080p.

I have a Viewsonic 28" LCD monitor (model vx2835wm) which is pretty good, but not the greatest quality to say the least. It is 1080p supported too.
However, I need something of better quality. My question is the monitor *must* have 1900x1080 resolution specifically to be 1080p supported correct, even if it offers higher resolution options?
Example:
Dell 27" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Higher resolutions, 1920x1200 too, but not 1920x1080 specifically. Would this be a bad idea for Blu-Ray movies (my Sony laptop has a built in Blu Ray player)?

In order to watch HD video on my iPod Touch I have tried many HD video to iPod converters, but there are always errors (like the black frame). Recently I found a good way to convert HD video to iPod Touch with an iPod Touch video converter and the special parameters setting. If you also want to put your favorite videos on iPod Touch just follow these steps:
"Add" video files
Video Parameter Settings Use the data in the picture below to adjust parameters..........

Error on startup. After a period of time. Having scoured several topics in relation to this issue, I am still none the wiser and like many pledging for some guidance, I thought it best to post here. Some quick Background Info;
I made this computer using my old Powersupply ( Jeantech 500W) and Harddrive. I had previously used the graphics card in my old setup and had no issues. This was XP, different motherboard, processor etc. I formatted the Harddrive and installed Windows 64bit and installed all the new parts. Drivers are all up to date except the motherboard. (Of which the CD couldn't be detected)
When I turn on my computer, at the login screen I receive small blocks of colour that do not match the screens intended picture. On the log in screen this is normally minimal, but on my main desktop this will nearly cover the screen intermitantly. Sounds bad? But it will either fix itself in time with the "Windows has recovered the driver Atiamtag" Or, I pop open the Chess program and on load up this clears the issue..........

I have just installed Vista x64 with a Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card, and I am experiencing graphics corruption in, particularly in 3d apps.
I sometimes get white horizontal lines across the screen and sometimes white blocks. In some 3d apps portions of the environment flicker out. they seem to disappear and I can see what is behind whatever object has disappeared momentarily.
Using Catalyst I can see that the graphics card never breaks 40% GPU utilization and the temperature never exceeds 40 degrees C.
I also had a very low end Nvidia 7500LE using the generic windows driver which also had the white lines, but I never tested the 3d apps with it.
Currently, if using the 8.2 ATI drivers, all seems well until I launch a 3d app. I have a 500 watt power supply.

I have a ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 2006 with HDTV built in running a X1300 GPU and 256 GDDR2 memory.. The graphics card works fine, but Vista neither recognizes the TV Tuner nor do I think ATI will support it since AMD bought them out.. AMD is being very vague on AIW or any TV Tuner support. I'm curious what Microsoft will do to support the full functions of mass marketed hardware such as the All-In Wonder TV Tuner Graphics cards?

Wondering if anyone has a suggestion. When importing a DVR-MS file recorded using Windows Media Center into Windows Movie Maker, in order to convert it to a more compact WMV file, a green screen shows up in the preview pane on the right-hand side. The audio works -- but only green shows.
It's strange because the DVR-MS file plays fine within Windows Media Center.
System is a Dell XPS 410 running an ATI Radeon x1600 pro with the latest Certified driver from Windows Update (8.391.0.0 dated 6/26/2007).
There is a later driver available from ATI, 8.9, but before taking the risk up upgrading the driver, wonder if there's another setting that may be causing the green screen?

I've got the two monitors hooked up to the splitter cable, I open "personalize" display and it tells me monitor two is "not active". It does, however, display Monitor 1 as a clone. How do I activate the second monitor so that when I extend the desktop I can open up windows separately? Something in the driver configuration I'm missing?

I installed the latest driver for my Radeon X1600 PRO from AMD (ATI), and I got a BSOD during the driver installation. Now Vista won't boot at all. It is telling me that WindowsSystem32Driversacpi.sys is missing or corrupt. I am dual-booting XP and Vista, and I found out that the entire drivers folder is missing on Vista. How can I get it back, or will I have to do a format re-install?

I have an eMachines ET1161-05 desktop and the integrated graphics leaves much to be desired. It runs Vista Basic 32 bit O.S. Other (factory) stuff is: Emachines MCP61PM-GM Motherboard.....I hope it does cause I've already ordered an XFX HD477AYDFC Radeon HD 4770 Video Card - 512MB DDR5, PCI Express 2.0, along with a Diablotek DA Series 500w ATX Power Supply (D15-1205). Will these new (in transit from tiger direct) items get along well with my system? I'm not expecting miracles, but I am expecting large improvements.

I figure I might as well post it in this forum to inform those who have my card (ASUS EAH4850 512MB). Currently after posting this topic in another forum, there seems to be no solution. Here is my conclusions from the situation. Sleep mode with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit does not work with multidisplays, using the radeon HD4850 running Catalyst 8.7 or Catalyst 8.8, when returning from sleep mode. It works only on a single display and will not work even when the secondary display is disabled. Monitors will display a blank screen and the power lights will flash indicating they are in standby even after the system has been restored from sleep mode. The secondary monitor must be physically detached from the graphics card (remove the DVI, AGP, or S-Video cable) for the system to return from sleep mode.

no sound after i got a new graphics card.
Yes, knowing what hardware you actually have would have been helpful,
but that's OK. Before you go and buy a PCI sound card, go into your BIOS
and change your default graphics card from onboard to AGP (or PCIe,
whichever you have). While you're in there, make sure the onboard sound ...

I upgrade my notebook to Vista and the video drive automatic installed by Vista is RADEON XPRESS 200M (WDDM), version 7.14.10.8333. When I try to install the version 8.5 (from the ATI site) nothing happens. If I force to install the new drive, Vista Update still inform the best drive is the older, and the CCC (Catalyst control center) still not installed.

I accidently hit some key combination that flip the display on my Vista laptop. Everything was upside down and the cursor moved in the opposite direction than what the physical moved. In other words, if I move mouse to right cursor moved to left. Not sure what keys I hit.
Left Hand: Maybe key or or or any two of these.
Right Hand: Maybe or or or
I did these keystrokes with one motion.
I had to use System Restore to get back to a normal display.
Can someone tell me what keys I hit and how to restore display?

Possibly not even a Vista problem, but this seems to be a pretty good resource overall so I was hoping somebody might have an idea what's wrong. I am running a pair of eVGA 7950 GT cards in SLI, no overclock anywhere, and I get a very odd display whenever I get into some kind of 3d game. I have attached a screenshot of HL2; however, this also happens in WoW so it's not game dependant. Any idea how I get rid of this crazy display? You can see there is some ghetto lettering that says SLI in the top left corner, and there is what could best be described as a green histogram along the left edge of the screen that "breathes" as the scene changes.

When starting up Vista, my display is always off to the left of the screen, meaning my start button is way off the screen and there's a black space on the right, like the display has simply been moved 2 inches to the left. I can fix it, by entering NVIDIA Control Panel and switch connector: back and forth between HDMI-HDTV (audio disabled) and HDMI - HDTV (audio enabled). but if the pc enters sleep or I reboot the problem is back.
Now I know the general problem because I had it with xp also, seems my monitor likes to tell my pc that it's a tv (I'm sorry I'm not into the tech lingo). And I've fixed it previously by changing codes in .ini files and ect. but I'd rather not do it on a new crisp clean first time install of Vista, anyone know of this problem and how to fix it for good?

I have a problem, for some reason when im playing games such as cod4 or gta4 or something. Il be playing fine for quite a long time, certainly a few hours but then randomly the screen will just stop, and the whole computer will freeze.
I noticed that on the frozen screen small parts of it had small purple lines going round them.
Well the only way to get out of this is to do a hard boot and start up my pc again.
Im wondering why this happens as i have all up to date drivers and my pc easily meets the requirements to play the games im playing.

I have two monitors: both work fine. However, somehow, while attempting to get the external monitor to display and not the laptop's monitor, I ended up with an extended view of the desktop on both. Laptop is Vista Home Edition.I followed the link to set up Dualview, but there wasn't anything in there
to tell me how to reverse it.
(url)
I don't need the desktop to be extended across both monitors.I simply want the external monitor to display the same thing as my laptop or have the laptop monitor be blank. I need an external monitor, because the screen on the laptop is cracked.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite and within one week of buying it at Best Buy, the screen cracked. (It was in a metal laptop case and did not sustain any trauma, so there is no reason for it to have cracked. Best Buy basically told me to stuff it and tried to charge me for an estimate when I brought it in for other problems with it. Toshiba has yet to respond to my letter about the problem.

I purchased a laptop with Vista Home Basic that had only 894 MB RAM.(Two slots with 512 MB sticks). I have lots of speed issues and was told by someone that this was not enough RAM to operate Vista. My laptop maximum it 2 GB so I swapped out the two 512 MB sticks for two 1 GB sticks. Under Control Panel>System, it is still only displaying 894 MB RAM. How do I get this to display the upgraded RAM?
