View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.
I recently discovered that I get an access denied error when I attempt to switch between different admin users under Vista SP2.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI ran the patcher that came with this Vista theme SoulGlass by ~bubito on deviantART and now some windows have Aero and others have what looks like a messed up windows classic theme. I tried using vista glazz to patch it back. I tried restarting multiple times. I tried switching to classic theme and back. Nothing works. I have Vista Ultimate 64. Here's a screenshot.

When I log in to my account user, the computer refreshed and then the whole settings about the appearance changed. I tried to fix it in windows appearance and when I looked in the choices, I can't find Windows Aero and Windows Home Basic. I don't know why but it just disappeared when I logged in. Somewhere along the line Vista Aero stopped working. Now when I click onto appearance settings, the appearance box is black and the color scheme box is blank. I tried downloading service pack 2, updating my drivers and attempting a system restore, but nothing has worked. I think something might be wrong with my graphics settings, because when I right click on the desktop and select graphics properties, I get a intel graphics media box which has the primary device listed as a laptop, and I can't figure out how to change it.

The advisor recommended that I chose Home Basic, but I would be able to run Premium, just without the Aero graphics. So my first choice is, Basic or Premium (lacking few features)? In order to try and speed up my computer I have gone in the task manager and msconfig and changed some settings since then and now the computer is running slower. I made recovery disks before I did any of that "tweaking" to the system. WhatI want to know is .....is there any place I can go to get a list of just what exactly should be running in the background? is there somewhere in the computer where I can basically just reset the system back to the default settings? I now have lost windows Aero and cannot access the colors in themes anymore.

It seems to be mostly reserved for OS related windows, as opposed to application windows. For instance, even IE7 doesn't show transparency. I find it strange that the Aero glass frame appears to only work partially for me. I would have expected that it would fully work, or not work at all. I'm using Intel's Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 3100, which came with my system.

Also can you turn off DX10 for DX10 games to improve performace - run them from a DX9 instead. All bells a whistles aside - I am gonna streamline this system and I don't need the added junk bogging my cycles down.
IMO XP Pro x32 would do it for me and if possible I will reformat the HD completly without voiding warranty. I really don't need it for what I want to do. It came pre-installed from Asus. There is not alot of support in gaming to warrant the DX10 or the x64 yet and this is not the best gaming laptop. I only spent $650 for the rig couldn't pass it up for that price.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi have a 4870 right now and im looking to get a second one (yeah i know 5000 series are out but w/e) i heard if u crossfire 2 cards u can only get 1 display is this true? im pretty sure it is but anyway im gettign a second monitor and i was wondering if its possible to switch off from crossfire to normal so i can game on a single one and then just watch while watchign vids on Internet on the second just like that? or would i be better off not crossfiring @ all. and if i dont corssfire what would be my fps boost?
