I have a big problem with windows vista. I really want to get the aero theme working but I am failing at it. I have windows vista home premium 32bit. I also have 2 gb memory , 2.66 GHz, My resolution at the moment is 1024x768. I have a 19 inch widescreen (dell). Here are some pictures that might help you tell me what my problem is........

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.

I got an ASUS M51 laptop 2 years ago with Vista Ultimate 32. I felt pretty good about the machine, until I connected a second LCD monitor with DVI connection. Connecting with VGA port had no crash problem, but I prefer using DVI with a HDMI/DVI cable. Using non-Aero theme had no problem.
Occasionally the system reported graphic card driver crashed and tried to recover. Sometimes the system recovered, more often not, leading to total crashing of Windows.
Surely I did the following:
1. Reinstall the latest graphic drivers.
2. Reinstall the latest ASUS splendid utilities.
3. Keep Windows patches updated.
4. Install and uninstall some Windows hot fixes, as suggested by some newsgroups' posts.
5. Many other methods.
None worked. So I gave up Aero for almost a year. Until I read a post when searching for answer about mysterious disappearing of desktop icons when the desktop is refreshing sometimes. The post had the finger pointed to Power4Gear eXtreme. For some reasons, the default settings of Miscellaneous power settings of the Quite Office profile will hide desktop icons. After changing the setting to No, the desktop icons stay still forever. And the Windows graphic driver crashing occurred less often.
As the crashing still happened, so I uninstalled ASUS Splendid utilities. And crashing of graphic driver never come back.
The new animations in Windows Vista look great for the first month or so but then they can become an annoyance since they feel like they increase the amount of time it takes to minimize and maximize a window. If you can live without the minimize and maximize animations that you can bring back the super fast feeling of your windows instantly disappearing and appearing by disabling the min/max animations.

When I log in to my account user, the computer refreshed and then the whole settings about the appearance changed. Somewhere along the line Vista Aero stopped working. Now when I click onto appearance settings, the appearance box is black and the color scheme box is blank. I tried downloading service pack 2, updating my drivers and attempting a system restore, but nothing has worked. I think something might be wrong with my graphics settings, because when I right click on the desktop and select graphics properties, I get a intel graphics media box which has the primary device listed as a laptop, and I can't figure out how to change it.

The advisor recommended that I chose Home Basic, but I would be able to run Premium, just without the Aero graphics. So my first choice is, Basic or Premium (lacking few features)? In order to try and speed up my computer I have gone in the task manager and msconfig and changed some settings since then and now the computer is running slower. I made recovery disks before I did any of that "tweaking" to the system. WhatI want to know is .....is there any place I can go to get a list of just what exactly should be running in the background? is there somewhere in the computer where I can basically just reset the system back to the default settings? View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, I have the Aero glass theme enabled on my 64-bit Vista machine, but the theme is only used for a few windows. It seems to be mostly reserved for OS related windows, as opposed to application windows. For instance, even IE7 doesn't show transparency. I find it strange that the Aero glass frame appears to only work partially for me. I would have expected that it would fully work, or not work at all. I'm using Intel's Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 3100, which came with my system.

Well, one of the first things he did to my laptop when I got it, was get rid Aero. At first I didn't mind, but now I want it back. And I mean its gone. When I go into "Window Color and Appearance" it doesn't even have the Aero option listed anymore.
I no longer have Aero theme enabled, and, I can't select it from the list. This has started after I had to format my drive and install Vista all over. Everything else with it seems just fine. Only this "Windows Vista Transparency" is not working. There is only one place I can think of to enable it at, and it is not there. Do I need to install some updates?
There should be another option there "Windows Vista Ultimate" I think, but I could be wrong.
But how do I enable transparency and all of the other effects of Aero?
Ive always use vista home premium, but after I used glary tools to defrag my regestry and then it said restart my comp annd i did, then whe i go to my pc, i see it has windows basic features, like on aero. So i went to personalinize and I SEE NO AERO feature!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm confused about the Aero Glass interface. Is the Aero Glass interface the same as the Aero color theme listed in display properties? If a person has Vista Home Premium and their computer's hardware supports it, does Vista default to Aero Glass or Aero Basic? The reason I ask is because when I first turned on my laptop, the windows were transparent and I could see the desktop through the borders when the windows were maximized. Was this Aero Glass? Does running Vista in Windows Classic Mode (where it looks like Win9x) save RAM and CPU cycles, or does it not make a difference as long as the hardware is strong enough to support Aero Glass?
