View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.
I have Windows Vista Ultimate , but i don't have Windows Aero. My Windows is Genuine.

I tried using vista glazz to patch it back. I tried restarting multiple times. I tried switching to classic theme and back. Nothing works. I have Vista Ultimate 64. Here's a screenshot.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Vista Home Premium 32bit. I used to have the Windows Aero theme, but one day it disappeared.
If I go to Control Panel>Appearance & Personalisation>Personalisation> Window Color and Appearance, I have Windows Standard and Windows Classic color schemes listed, but Windows Aero has disappeared.
Does anyone know how to use aero in maximised windows? I know you can use Vistaglazz , but I don't like it.Is there some sort of registry hack of some sort?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm Rean and I'm experiencing some problems about the color scheme in my computer. I'm using Vista Home Premium for 2 years now. When I log in to my account user, the computer refreshed and then the whole settings about the appearance changed. I tried to fix it in windows appearance and when I looked in the choices, I can't find Windows Aero and Windows Home Basic. I don't know why but it just disappeared when I logged in. I tried to restart my computer but nothing happens. It still doesn't appear.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new HP IQ524 touchscreen and transferred my laptop files to it. I'm running windows vista home premium 64 with directx10. Somewhere along the line Vista Aero stopped working. Now when I click onto appearance settings, the appearance box is black and the color scheme box is blank. I tried downloading service pack 2, updating my drivers and attempting a system restore, but nothing has worked. I think something might be wrong with my graphics settings, because when I right click on the desktop and select graphics properties, I get a intel graphics media box which has the primary device listed as a laptop, and I can't figure out how to change it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHaving run the update advisor, it turns out that my computer isn't fully capable of running Windows Aero (shock). The advisor recommended that I chose Home Basic, but I would be able to run Premium, just without the Aero graphics. So my first choice is, Basic or Premium (lacking few features)? My second choice, is after I decide which version, whether I should get the upgrade package or shell out for the full version, just incase?

In order to try and speed up my computer I have gone in the task manager and msconfig and changed some settings since then and now the computer is running slower. I made recovery disks before I did any of that "tweaking" to the system. WhatI want to know is .....is there any place I can go to get a list of just what exactly should be running in the background? is there somewhere in the computer where I can basically just reset the system back to the default settings? I now have lost windows Aero and cannot access the colors in themes anymore.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAero Snap is one of the best features in Windows 7 because it makes managing Windows much easier. Now users of Windows Vista and XP can join in the fun with the help of AquaSnap by Nurgo Software. The free utility expands on the features offered by Microsoft’s Aero Snap by allowing users to not only snap windows on both sides of the screen, but also in corners and add multi-monitor support....

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, I have the Aero glass theme enabled on my 64-bit Vista machine, but the theme is only used for a few windows. It seems to be mostly reserved for OS related windows, as opposed to application windows. For instance, even IE7 doesn't show transparency. I find it strange that the Aero glass frame appears to only work partially for me. I would have expected that it would fully work, or not work at all. I'm using Intel's Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 3100, which came with my system.

Every single Windows Vista presentation and demo I have seen has always included the new Flip 3D, alt+tab replacement. This is a cool feature that really helps you switch between windows when you have a lot open but for some, it can be a choppy experience. If you have a low end graphics card you may experience dropped frames resulting in a choppy animation experience while flipping through your windows. One easy way to make Flip 3D perform much better is to limit the number of windows it draws on your screen.
Follow the steps below to speed up Flip 3D on your computer:
Click on the Start Button, key in regedit and hit Enter....
How do i change the color of the desktop behind the wallpaper in the windows aero theme? I've done it before so i know it can be done it's just that i can't remember.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis has been one of the most demonstrated features of Windows Vista and also one that I have been asked the most about how to use it.
Keep in mind that your computer must support the DWM for this feature to run. If you are running Aero Glass right now, it will work perfectly for you.
Launch Flip 3D:
Just press and hold the Windows Key + Tab. Then use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the up and down keyboard arrows to navigate through the windows. When the window you want is on top, release the Windows and Tab keys.
Would you like to add a shortcut to your desktop or quick launch bar that launches the new Flip 3D tab replacement?
1. Right click on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut.
2. Copy and paste RunDll32 DwmApi #105 into the location box and hit Next....
I am building a new system to get away from Dell. I am using my existing HDD to do the build. Is Vista gonna flip out b/c of the hardware changes, etc? will I need to install it from scratch? if so, is it going to work? or will I have to go buy another copy?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a pretty insignificant, but weird bug: the highly hyped, hardly useful 3d flip feature of Vista has just magically disapeared from my comp. Only thing I know I've done was installing the latest x64 security update (KB958644) just before this. The icon is still there, but it just brings up the old school blue box version, and winKey-tab no longer does anything. Anybody heard of an update removing this feature, or know where the mysterious 'flip' files are actually located?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn windows vista does anyone know how to create a shortcut (desktop or quicklaunch kind) for regular "Windows Flip" also known as "ctrl-alt-tab". Regular windows flip can be used in aero glass with the keyboard shortcut "ctrl-alt-tab", now i want to place a desktop shortcut for it. NOT for the 3D version which shortcut is widely available (DwmApi #105).
I want to have this shortcut for the regular flip, the filmstrip version wich even in aero I find more useful and quite better looking than the 3D flip version. How to creating "desktop shortcuts" from "keyboard shortcuts"
Check out this cool app that is still in development but looks very promising....
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a question about Windows Vista Home Premium [service pack 1] and Windows Flip. When flipping (alt-TAB) thru active applications on Windows Vista, there is a strange icon on the left side that really has no information. When selected all other apps have a descriptive name but when this particular icon/app is selected, there is no descriptive name or information. When this icon is selected nothing happens but when any of the other apps are selected, the appropriate function happens. The icon has a white box and in the lower right corner it has a few small boxes (each a different size) close together. One box it white, the other is orange, the other is red, the other is blue and the last is white with a small vertical line. Does anyone know what this is and why it is there? If it is nothing I need and it is not system critical, how do I remove it? Here is the icon I am talking about. It is on the left hand side. When highlighted it has no name and when selected it does nothing.
