May 14, 2010Windows 3d flip simply keeps switching from the application window to the 3D stack. Any click causes the applications to stack. Click again and the application reopens. Click anywhere in the sindow and I am back at the stack. How do I turn this off?

This person hackerdemon looks to have registered just to post his/her knowledge on the subject and seems to take great offense at giving the source of his/her findings. This is a cool feature that really helps you switch between windows when you have a lot open but for some, it can be a choppy experience. If you have a low end graphics card you may experience dropped frames resulting in a choppy animation experience while flipping through your windows. One easy way to make Flip 3D perform much better is to limit the number of windows it draws on your screen.
Follow the steps below to speed up Flip 3D on your computer:
Click on the Start Button, key in regedit and hit Enter....

May 14, 2006This has been one of the most demonstrated features of Windows Vista and also one that I have been asked the most about how to use it.
Keep in mind that your computer must support the DWM for this feature to run. If you are running Aero Glass right now, it will work perfectly for you.
Launch Flip 3D:
Just press and hold the Windows Key + Tab. Then use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the up and down keyboard arrows to navigate through the windows. When the window you want is on top, release the Windows and Tab keys.

Mar 23, 2008I am building a new system to get away from Dell. I am using my existing HDD to do the build. Is Vista gonna flip out b/c of the hardware changes, etc? will I need to install it from scratch? if so, is it going to work? or will I have to go buy another copy?

Oct 23, 2008I've got a pretty insignificant, but weird bug: the highly hyped, hardly useful 3d flip feature of Vista has just magically disapeared from my comp. Only thing I know I've done was installing the latest x64 security update (KB958644) just before this. The icon is still there, but it just brings up the old school blue box version, and winKey-tab no longer does anything. Anybody heard of an update removing this feature, or know where the mysterious 'flip' files are actually located?

Regular windows flip can be used in aero glass with the keyboard shortcut "ctrl-alt-tab", now i want to place a desktop shortcut for it. NOT for the 3D version which shortcut is widely available (DwmApi #105).
I want to have this shortcut for the regular flip, the filmstrip version wich even in aero I find more useful and quite better looking than the 3D flip version. How to creating "desktop shortcuts" from "keyboard shortcuts"

Apr 16, 2009I have a question about Windows Vista Home Premium [service pack 1] and Windows Flip. When flipping (alt-TAB) thru active applications on Windows Vista, there is a strange icon on the left side that really has no information. When selected all other apps have a descriptive name but when this particular icon/app is selected, there is no descriptive name or information. When this icon is selected nothing happens but when any of the other apps are selected, the appropriate function happens. The icon has a white box and in the lower right corner it has a few small boxes (each a different size) close together. One box it white, the other is orange, the other is red, the other is blue and the last is white with a small vertical line. Does anyone know what this is and why it is there? If it is nothing I need and it is not system critical, how do I remove it? Here is the icon I am talking about. It is on the left hand side. When highlighted it has no name and when selected it does nothing.

Apr 9, 2009It's clear that most people cannot edit .mp4 files from their Flip Mino-HD camcorders in Movie Maker. I can, on three different computers in my household -- all except for the lone XP system. All of these computers have different applications installed. I thought I had it figured out. When I plug in the Flip, it installs FlipShare automatically. I have plugged the Flip into two of the three Vista systems. When I look at Tools->Options->Compatibility on the systems that have FlipShare installed, I see that there is a DirectShow filter called "PDT IPP Video Decoder" enabled, and it's in one of Pure Technologies' (Flip) directories. If I disable that, in Movie Maker, I can no longer play or edit the .mp4 files from my Flip Mino-HD.
However, on my wife's Vista system, the Flip has never been plugged in, FlipShare hasn't been installed, the above-mentioned filter isn't present, and I can -*still*- load, play, and edit an MP4 file copied from one of my other computers. She hasn't installed any video editors on her system. There is a bare minimum of filters listed as active in Movie Maker...........
Software Doesn't Work, "Windows Hostprocess Doesn't Work"
Apr 21, 2009I have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
Windows Update Does Not Work And Cannot Even Get Into It
Mar 26, 2009I recently ran a registry cleaner program (I think it was called pc tools or something) which also optimises your computer blah de blah. Anyway, after I Optimised it and cleaned the registry, I can no longer access windows update. When I try to open it, a window very quickly pops up and then promptly disappears. I tried uninstalling the program to undo the changes, but I think that was a wrong move. Update still doesn't work. I went to do a system restore, but that has also stopped working. Same thing, a window flashes up but then disappears. Also, when I right click on my desktop and click "personalise", the same problem occurs. Also if I go to Control Panel-System. I tried doing a windows repair but it said that there were no problems found. I would really like to avoid doing a full format and re-install because this computer is used at reception of the hotel my wife and I manage and any downtime with the computer can be a real pain in the backside with online bookings etc.
Windows Mail Do Not Work
Apr 28, 2008I go to tools and options, and it says "This application is NOT the default mail handler" Then it says "Make default" I click on it, click apply, and then Okay to close the box, but when I reopen it, it says the same thing. I've tried closeing windows mail, and reopening, either way, it will NOT make Windows mail my defaut mail, even though there is no other mail handler on my computer.

Feb 21, 2010I bought a program called Topalt to delete a lot of duplicate messages and now Windows Mail won't work. All my folders have disappeared except the Inbox and some newsgroup folders but none of them are accessible anyway. The folders themselves are still all physically where they should be, however, and as far as I can tell they're ok.
So how can I repair Windows Mail? My Vista Home Premium came preinstalled on an HP laptop. I don't have an installation CD as such. I did a repair partition wipe and installed Acronis as a recovery tool. Unfortunately, it's been several weeks since I last did a file backup, so to use that for repair would not be at all convenient.

What I had written down does not work. so....i Have to go to Yahoo mail which I left because of the set up and disgusting ads like rotten teeth and people's cellulite rearends popping up when trying to read mail.So instead today, thought I could sign up for Windows live mail, which took a lot of my time. However, I cannot get my main email account to be accepted in Windows live - and by the way is this going to cost me? I am really hoping that Windows live will not be placing these same type of ads in my mail or I won't use it either. I would really just like to get my Windows mail back because it was perfect.

Jul 25, 2009I bought a new HP IQ524 touchscreen and transferred my laptop files to it. I'm running windows vista home premium 64 with directx10. Somewhere along the line Vista Aero stopped working. Now when I click onto appearance settings, the appearance box is black and the color scheme box is blank. I tried downloading service pack 2, updating my drivers and attempting a system restore, but nothing has worked. I think something might be wrong with my graphics settings, because when I right click on the desktop and select graphics properties, I get a intel graphics media box which has the primary device listed as a laptop, and I can't figure out how to change it.

Feb 8, 2009I've been having software driver problems with my Dlink DWA-552 under Vista. When I booted my Windows 7 64-bit partition, Windows effortlessly installed the correct driver set and I have no problems. I looked into this magic a bit further and discovered that Windows 7 had installed two drivers for my DWA-552, both from system32/drivers: athrx.sys by Atheros and vwifibus.sys by Microsoft.
Under Vista only athrx.sys is installed, which explains why my DWA-552 does not work properly under Vista. I have not been able to get a correct driver install under Vista, driver update is clueless and Vista update is equally clueless as is software from Dlink. How do I manually install vwifibus.sys for my DWA-552 under Vista?
