View 5 Replies View RelatedIn XP, I used my Windows Key to map to Ventrilo speak (I used Litestep, not Explorer). In Vista (and Windows 7) this little bug is proving to be quite annoying. I've love to be able to just disable to Start Menu pop-up, or at least disable it when in game, but still maintain it as a normal key.

I attempted to do this by going to Control Panel....Turn On/Off Windows Features....checked all of the boxed under .Net 3.0.....then it configues but then displays the message "an error has occurred. not all of the features were successfully changed" I have no idea what to do....I attempted to see if I could uninstall .Net 3.0 but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Edit: I just had to call back and talk to someone else who actually knew what they were doing and they activated it for me! So um.. if anyone has this problem, make sure you try twice
I am contemplating getting a new Hard Drive (bigger, of course by a large margin!) and with the problems I have had with activation in the past, despite being a bloody genuine copy (calm down, Philip, calm down) - how can I go about activating on a new hard drive without experiencing the same c**p I have in the past (last one just needed to type in serial and it was activated, but the 2nd time I had to go via Indian call centre and was on FORTY FIVE MINUTES FFS !!!!....calm down, lad...calm....) I then did an upgrade and entered my key code but I believe the software hasn't been activated even though I chose activate automatically. When I try to activate it it gives me an error saying the code is for upgrade (which I did).Is there a way I can find out if it has been activated? I have 4 GB of RAM installed, but I now see only 3 GB--and when I try to activate ReadyBoost, there is an error message telling me there is already a cache on another device in the system. Because of the sudden disappearance of 1 GB of memory, I suspect it has somehow been allocated to disk cach. How do I go about recovering that 1 GB and activating ReadyBoost.

I had a 30 GB hard disk on which I had all my docs....plenty of space on this. I removed the 40GB disc, installed a new 320GB disc (along with a new video card, power supply, RAM and DVD burner) and rebooted using F1 command, from DVD, and installed OEM Vista Ultimate which computer shop sold me as best (read: cheapest) way to go to Ultimate - especially as I was rebuilding so much of my PC...IS THAT RIGHT? . All went fine.......BUT I failed to notice until after activating Vista that I had installed it on the second HDD (the small 30 GB one 'left over' from my original PC configuration!!!!!...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
I recently ran a registry cleaner program (I think it was called pc tools or something) which also optimises your computer blah de blah. Anyway, after I Optimised it and cleaned the registry, I can no longer access windows update. When I try to open it, a window very quickly pops up and then promptly disappears. I tried uninstalling the program to undo the changes, but I think that was a wrong move. Update still doesn't work. I went to do a system restore, but that has also stopped working. Same thing, a window flashes up but then disappears. Also, when I right click on my desktop and click "personalise", the same problem occurs. Also if I go to Control Panel-System. I tried doing a windows repair but it said that there were no problems found. I would really like to avoid doing a full format and re-install because this computer is used at reception of the hotel my wife and I manage and any downtime with the computer can be a real pain in the backside with online bookings etc.
I go to tools and options, and it says "This application is NOT the default mail handler" Then it says "Make default" I click on it, click apply, and then Okay to close the box, but when I reopen it, it says the same thing. I've tried closeing windows mail, and reopening, either way, it will NOT make Windows mail my defaut mail, even though there is no other mail handler on my computer.

I have enabled the "hidden" admin account and windows mail works fine - configured got email, logged off, logged on still working. BUT in my normal account but still an admin account, no other accounts on system. Windows mail will not start have downloaded the reg file and that has done its job. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a program called Topalt to delete a lot of duplicate messages and now Windows Mail won't work. All my folders have disappeared except the Inbox and some newsgroup folders but none of them are accessible anyway. The folders themselves are still all physically where they should be, however, and as far as I can tell they're ok.
So how can I repair Windows Mail? My Vista Home Premium came preinstalled on an HP laptop. I don't have an installation CD as such. I did a repair partition wipe and installed Acronis as a recovery tool. Unfortunately, it's been several weeks since I last did a file backup, so to use that for repair would not be at all convenient.
I got a pop up for a username and password to access my mail. What I had written down does not work. so....i Have to go to Yahoo mail which I left because of the set up and disgusting ads like rotten teeth and people's cellulite rearends popping up when trying to read mail.So instead today, thought I could sign up for Windows live mail, which took a lot of my time. However, I cannot get my main email account to be accepted in Windows live - and by the way is this going to cost me? I am really hoping that Windows live will not be placing these same type of ads in my mail or I won't use it either. I would really just like to get my Windows mail back because it was perfect.

Somewhere along the line Vista Aero stopped working. Now when I click onto appearance settings, the appearance box is black and the color scheme box is blank. I tried downloading service pack 2, updating my drivers and attempting a system restore, but nothing has worked. I think something might be wrong with my graphics settings, because when I right click on the desktop and select graphics properties, I get a intel graphics media box which has the primary device listed as a laptop, and I can't figure out how to change it.
