I really do not have a real need for the x64. I want to run games that do not require x64. Also can you turn off DX10 for DX10 games to improve performace - run them from a DX9 instead. All bells a whistles aside - I am gonna streamline this system and I don't need the added junk bogging my cycles down.
IMO XP Pro x32 would do it for me and if possible I will reformat the HD completly without voiding warranty. I really don't need it for what I want to do. It came pre-installed from Asus. There is not alot of support in gaming to warrant the DX10 or the x64 yet and this is not the best gaming laptop. I only spent $650 for the rig couldn't pass it up for that price.
My mother bought this computer like 3 or 4 weeks ago. Well Adobe Flash Player will not work. It says its downloaded. We had this same problem with Java but now Java is working properly. I need Adobe for alot of websites like myspace.

i have a 4870 right now and im looking to get a second one (yeah i know 5000 series are out but w/e) i heard if u crossfire 2 cards u can only get 1 display is this true? im pretty sure it is but anyway im gettign a second monitor and i was wondering if its possible to switch off from crossfire to normal so i can game on a single one and then just watch while watchign vids on Internet on the second just like that? or would i be better off not crossfiring @ all. and if i dont corssfire what would be my fps boost?
i just installed Windows Vista x64 and immediately ran into network problems. My Network and Sharing center said my connection was connecting/disconnecting every few seconds and I was unable to reach the internet. My network is something like this (ignore the periods, they're there because the field won't format blank spaces :P ) :

I have 4 separate IPs from my ISP so I can RDP into anything not behind the router from work. The wireless is just nice for random evices. All 3 PCs have independent IPs assigned from the ISPs DNS. All systems work fine except the x64.I thought it was my on-board NIC so I went and bought a PCI NIC. It did the same thing. At this point I think I might have 2 bad NICs so i went and got a third - same thing. I read around on some forums and tweaked my duplex settings which stopped the connect/disconnect, but then I got something like this in my Network and Sharing Center:x64 ===>green===>Unidentified Network===> X ===> Internet,Changing the duplex settings around did not resolve this.Next, I followed a Microsoft fix and changed a setting in my registry that did something about disabling a packet broadcast Vista does that some devices cannot respond to. Still no go.After pulling what's left of my hair out I slept on it and plugged my x64 system into the router.
Disco! It worked. However, because of the physical locations of each system this is messy and cannot remain in place. (Aside from that I want to resolve this issue because I think it is dumb :/ )So my question is - why can't my Vista x64 system get an IP via DHCP from the ISPs DNS? Is there something I need to turn off/kill that I haven't hit yet? When it is getting it from the router it seems happy as a clam but through the switch is no-go. (gives that nasty 169.... (preferred) address). I used mostly XP before and it looks like Vista is trying to connect to some local network and self-assign its IP. How can I make it stop (without asking my ISP for a static IP, cause they prolly won't give it to me w/o mucho $$)?
I want to know if it's possible to create a scheduled task that switches on the computer from hibernation at a specific time, gets past the user logon screen (it appears even though I haven't set a password) and then hibernates after a certain duration.
when I tell vista to turn file sharing on, shouldn't it actually listen to me? When I select 'turn file sharing on' and apply it doesn't actually seem to do anything. Also the public folder filesharing gives the message 'RPC server unavailable'. Other computers on the network cannot be seen, but the router can. I have checked the router, done all the standard reseting things, checked that file sharing and network discovery are allowed by the firewall (and even turned it off to make doubly sure), used the netsetup program, and had several people who are fairly fluent with networking all give up in frustration.
My laptop inspiron 1515 (I know it starts with 15) has below it, a switch you can make "lock" in place and also has a picture of a lock next to it. I pushed it all the way and it locked in place, and I can't get it to go back where it was or unlock. Felt like breaking the thing but I thought maybe someone here would know what it's for.

I am trying to back up the configuration of a Cisco switch. I am using TFTP. After accessing the switch I try to ping and telnet to my Vista Business PC. I can't do either. I have Windows Defender turned off and I have shut down my Symantec Endpoint Protection. Under Windows features I have Simple TCP/IP services, Telnet Client and Telnet Server turned on. I also have TFTP client turned on. What might be stopping me from accessing my PC??

I am looking for a application which allows to switch between two or more desktops. With "desktop" i simply mean the wallpaper with the desktop icons on it.
Mine is very overcrowded and so I searched for a solution that allows to adapt my workplace to the thing I'm doing. If I'm programming i want links to all my compilers and tools, if I'm gaming I want all my games at the desktop.
Have HP Presario 500, 32bit (nVidea nforce 10/100 ethenet) that was working fine until suddenly no network was recognized- no wireless. When I try to create a connection I get "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured", however under device manager It tells me that my card is working fine. It also tells me that my "6to4" adapter (whatever that is?) "Windows cannot load drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" So.... HP and I spent an hour on the phone to no avail. They said it was a known issue and although the laptop is out of warranty, they would repair it, so I sent the unit into HP. Three days later they tell me that it's going to cost $750 to repair my $400 laptop because my laptop has been "dropped".
When I received the unit back from HP (No, I didn't authorize the repairs) lo and behold the wireless light was blue , it recognized my network and all my neighbors as usual, and the wireless worked.... for 10 minutes. The next time I turned the unit on the wireless light was orange, and no network. The internet works fine when connected with a cable to the router. Other laptops can see my network and can connect so I know that it's not the router (Linksys WRG54GS)
Can I test to see if the switch is faulty? Can I test to see if the internet card is faulty? Can the 6to4 adapter drivers be at fault?
First and foremost create a Recovery Disc and keep it safe and do not switch off the System Recovery utility. Do not remove the bloatware came with your PC unless you are desperate for space in your Hard disc,if and when you remove them do it one by one monitoring the response of the PC. If you couldn't get SP1,don't loose your sleep over it because it is not for the benefit of the user and it is designed to stop the user using other free third party softwares and tools(in my opinion anyway and remember I am not an expert).
Do not rely solely on the advices and do your own research as well because these so called advisers haven't provided me with tangible proof of their competence. Most of them hail vista as the best but wouldn't say why. If you ask any questions,they will blame you first for not asking the question properly and point you to a website to learn how to ask questions. Then they will request the third party software details and blame them. Now the turn of your hardware incompatibility which creates the problem. When everything fails they will accuse you of being an Ubuntu user. I suspect these so called experts use Ubuntu or some thing and pretend to be Vista experts and trying to damage the image of Vista. Fast user switching has been a very useful feature of Windows for multi-user computers. Dating back to Windows XP, fast user switching allows multiple users to be logged into a computer at once. This is very useful if a user is in the middle of work but another needs to use the computer shortly. Fast user switching will allow the other user to log in while still retaining the other users session. Once the other user is finished the session can be switched back to the original user....
I have been looking everywhere and can't seem to find an answer to why some of my thumbnails are blank or fuzzy. For Example: On my Desktop it will say the folder name then above it a transparent square. If I go into a folder I am able to see tile previews but when I switch to thumbnail mode, they get fuzzy.
I'm really frustrated at this and feel I've tried everything. I've been searching all over the internet for help but to no avail - nobody seems to have this specific problem. I have just bought a new Sony Vaio VGN-NR11Z/S (2 GHz Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T2750; 2 GB RAM; Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Version). It has an integrated wireless switch on it and is running windows Vista. These two things don't seem to agree with each other. I boot up the laptop and the wireless connection works fine, I connect to the internet straight away. I then put it to sleep in the way I used to using standby on XP (closing the lid basically). When Vista comes out of sleep mode I find that I can't connect to the internet, and the little light on the wireles switch is off.
I diagnose the problem and it tells me to turn on my wireless switch, which is odd as it is already on. The only way to get the internet working again is to restart the computer. "ipconfig/renew" in command prompt says the media is disconnected. Device manager says the device is working properly and disabling then enabling it doesn't help. I've just installed the latest driver (11.5.0.32) and that hasn't helped either. Changing power settings to maximum performance does nothing as well, neither does turning the switch off then back on again. My wireless device is "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection". It's basically when I come out of sleep the computer can't recognise the wireless switch, or it turns itself off even when it's in the on position.
I use a program called "Texmod" for a number of games to modify their textures. One game I am recently playing, however, requires that a command line switch be used to run the game client exe directly. Texmod doesn't support command line switching through it's own, so the game client refuses to work. Is there anyway (via Windows options or a third-party application) I can embed/hardcode the command line switch into the exe permanatly, so if the exe is ran, it'll always force load the command line switch?
I bought Vista Ultimate about a year ago and no one has been able to help me thus far. I have 3 ip's with my cable company and I use a switch to connect to the internet. I use one vista machine and 2 XP machines all three connect to the internet just fine. But I cannot get VISTA to see my 2 XP machines and share files.My 2 XP machines share files together just fine but my Vista is not showing. I feel as if I have tested all the known set ups and read the proper help files but I have no clue how to make this work. Please do not say use a router I perfer a switch
I have a Gateway Tablet PC which originally came with Windows XP Tablet edition. I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium a long time ago (2 years?) and have had no problems, except for the lousy video chip that the laptop has. I decided to upgrade the ram from 1 GB to 2 GB, so went to a reputable online memory seller that has a scanner to tell you what memory to buy. Replaced the two 500MB modules with two 1GB modules. After that, the laptop goes into hybrid sleep/hibernation fine, but when resuming, the HDD light flashes, DVD spins up, etc., but the screen stays blank, and Vista hangs. I have to hold the power button down to switch off and then reboot, with the complaint that it did not shut down correctly.
This was so annoying that I reinstalled the 2 500MB memory modules and the problem went away. But a few weeks later, the slowness and disk thrashing prompted me to try again. So I put the 2GB in again, and bingo, the hang-upon-resume problem reappears. It does boot and run faster with the 2 GB, so I really want to keep it. Is there a switch to have Vista control panel and other features of Vista resemble XP. We are being forced to Vista, but want the familiarity of XP for our users.
When using XP I could switch identities checking messages for myself and husband. Now we have separate user accounts in Vista but how do we switch between them?
There is only one account and it is my own. However on more than one occasion and, as a matter of fact, just now; when I log on there are two of me at the logon screen. Just two identical logons. Is this another profile the is a shadow or double of my login that runs at the same time. I can choose either to logon on to and they both are identical with identical passwords, etc.. Once I log on I can't switch user and see the profile again. What is this?
I originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit installed on my computer. I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.
